Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. "A study done several years ago showed that the universe's energy is decreasing. What if gravity, too, has been getting weaker?" --- Dark matter, in a nutshell, is a theoretical force envisioned by scientists that would explain the behavior of galaxies that seem to be spinning fast enough for some of their stars to fly out of their orbits but do not. For galaxies to remain intact they would have to have a greater gravitational pull than their visible mass suggests. Scientists therefore theorized, as far back as the 1930s, that there must be some invisible matter -- dark matter -- that's holding galaxies together. The problem is that as hard as we try to detect dark matt…

  2. Hi. I am new to this Forum, but have followed this and similar stories. Cold Fusion is now called Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) among other terms. This is because instead of fusing two items (which is reported to occur mildly), several atoms give off parts which then fuse into a third unstable atom which then Beta Decays into IR heat. I know it will take a ruler upside most of the heads here before anyone will look at this seriously but this thread was started in 2011 and a lot more information is now available. The claims of Andrea Rossi in 2011 were so alarming that a lot of CF research was redirected towards Nickel/Hydrogen variations with much succ…

  3. I keep coming across scientists and intellectuals who are entertaining this idea, that the world around us is some type of Matrix. Could it be that we are trapped in someone else's video game? Testing this hypothesis would be very difficult with today's technology, but some scientists think it's possible.

  4. I would argue that space has nothing to do with time. Masstime seems closer to the truth to me. If mass where creating time and gravity then that would explain dark matter, dark gravity, and redshift. Redshift as in with this school of thought all distant galaxies would appear to be moving away, even if they where moving toward us. So as you approach a black hole there's a lot of mass/gravity which means lots of time. The same would go for the speed of light, the faster you go, the more massive you become and the more time you have. What I mean by more time is, time moves slower so you have, more time.

  5. Maybe it's just me, but I've never really followed the logic behind this experiment. (They also did another experiment like this but with the atomic clocks inside of planes that flew around the world.) It seems like theoretically the only way you could make "time" go faster is if you went into a dimension that has a different set of 'laws' than this reality, and then transitioned back to this dimension...As in you would spend 1 day in the other 'dimension' of time and space, then come back and it would be 10 years later in this reality.

  6. I believe that, both, dark matter and dark energy are "created" within black holes... I will speak, specifically, about supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies.... Perhaps, when matter enters the black hole, "torsion" occurs at such a high rate, that on the "other side" (south pole) of a black hole, dark matter is spit out in a sort of reverse accretion disk. As the size of a supermassive black hole, at centers of galaxies, are relative to the size of the galaxy, it could explain why dark matter is appears to be hovering on the outscirts of galaxies, not in empty space .....Perhaps the fourforces are combined with matter and light in a way…

  7. Welcome on a journey into theoretical physics revealing that exacly the same "mysterious force" which in a heated kettle "magically transforms” liquid into gas substance ...is responsible for uprising the universe structures and expansion of material cosmos. ......... "THERMONUCLEAR SCATTERING IN COSMOLOGY, AN INTRODUCTION TO NEW ATOM MODEL”......... At the beginning of the twentieth century Albert Einstein made a great breakthrough in “variable time and space nature" perception. Unfortunatelly an innovative vision called "General Relativity" does not break with Newtonian model foundations and in practice "new revolutionary theory" (GR) becomes only narrow …

Let's take a rod. A hollow cylinder. Let's put it horizontaly, with a laser device at one end. The rod is standing still at rest. Let's open the laser for a time T so that light travels inside the cylinder a distance D. In Spacetime, light goes from point A to B, having travelled the interval X. Something like fig.1 here below: In this diagram, speed of light, C, is the angle of the line AB. It is expressed as a fraction: meters/seconds. Because we are measuring light, we can pose that [math] D=CT [/math] (1) From the diagram, using Pythagoream theorem, we can pose that [math] X^2 = D^2 + T^2 [/math] (2) Replacing (1) in (2) we get [math] X^2 = C^2 T^2 …

  10. I am trying to understand ' HOW GRAVITY WORKS ' . Whether this is a question , that should not be asked, I do not know , or care ? I personally as a practicing Engineer , all my life , have tried to understand the HOW , and WHY , things work , the way they do . I know a typical answer may be along the lines .." Science deals with the 'how ' not the why ." But , I do think that is insufficient , in understanding such an engrained , primary facility , by which the universe is fundamentally held together , and controls are every move and structure . I am sure it MUST be possible to probe and understand at greater depth , the ' Nature of Gravity ' ? I am having gen…

  11. Getting a handle on GRAVITY is EASY . Understanding GRAVITY seems difficult . I think this bench top experiment , possibly , hints at a facet of the nature of Gravity ? SETTING The early founders of Quantum Mechanics based some of their early research on Observations of Phenomenon , on a ' Bench Top Setting', in the area of electronics , vacuum tubes, emission of light ranging from infra red to Ultra Violet , and it was not long before this led to the establishment of Quanta around the emission of Electro Magnetic Waves from within the Atom . ( electron energy levels, changes) A close relationship was seen by Einstein and others between the ENERGY and …

If the multiverse theory is true, it means that there are infinite number of planets, in fact infinite number of planets exact same as ours. There are infinite number of ''ME'' out there living the exact same life as me. Now you may agree or disagree of the theory, but if we take the path I did, which is that I believe in the theory, then I want to ask some basic questions: 1. If the theory is right and there is infinite multiverses out there , existing for eternity without beginning and without an end, does it mean that I personally , after I die, will live again the EXACT same life as I did this life, because according to quantum physics, energy can't be destroyed. Th…

  14. One night after binge watching many science shows, I was contemplating. I can't accept that the Universe we live in came from nothingness. Everything we were ever taught says that "nothing is for free". There had to be something from before. I slept that night and it came to me in a dream. I saw a massive explosion in space and the following collapse into a Black Hole in what seemed to be a brighter more energetic universe. But it didn't stop there. I seen what happened on the "other side". A great white light that instantly expanded into another universe. I thought, could it be? It certainly makes sense. You can never prove it though. Certainly I'm not the only o…

  15. Recently, I was thinking about the nature of reciprocity in some cases of natural phenomenon, for example, Newtons Thrid Law of Motion, or, Faraday's Law of Induction. Considering that spacetime distortion, due to a gravity field, leads to a change in the light path, or, a change in light velocity, when observed from a region with diferent spacetime metric. Would a induced change in light velocity, induce a distorion in spacetime (to keep c constant at local reference), thus, generating gravity? And, lets consider that the propagation of the light (in vacuum) would be distorted (or have its aparent velocity changed) by some hypothetical advanced technology. It's the o…

We die because our cells die. But it's a little more complicated than that. Though our cells replace themselves over and over again for 70-odd years, they can't do so forever. See, inside each cell are 'telomeres, 'at the end of our chromosomes these contain genetic information that continuously gets clipped away when each new cell divides, over and over again. Telomeres start out long enough to handle a great many scissor snips. But eventually, they run out of length, the information they held is lost and the cells cannot divide anymore - death. This is the age of science and progression, scientists now have a great understanding of why and how we die - som…

I would like to talk about the free energy magnetic motor. Many people have been able to consruct devices that use the energy magnets generate to soon different kinds of electric generators. There are several examples if you search "free energy motor" on YouTube. In all of the videos I have watched, every free energy motor is turned on via manual mechanical interference. I would like to propose a hybrid stationary electromagnet with conventional magnets afixed a rotor. the system will be first applied to charging 12vdc car batteries via alternator. The plan is to move up to the higher voltage hybrid and electric batteries on the second stage. Altenators put out a c…

Okay, you're all right in your own ways. I'm overzealous yes, hot headed yes, amateur, yes. Smart? Probly not. But for the moment, I need help. In order to keep my farm status(and not have to pay 10 years of deferred taxes(we've only owned it for 3years) because I bush hogged the field when the golfenrod was in seed). It doesn't matter why I did it...ugh!...but as scientists, you cannot argue with results. The past 3 years, im the feeding source of tens of thousands (i remember my resource sampling courses) of at least 2 types of bees. This is on the word of an entymologist here in New Brunswick Canada. I could make 3 times the amount if I simply plowed and grew...doesn't…

I would like to present an invention I have been working on. It is an electric generator that powers itself. The model is quite simple in theory. There are three main components, a pump, an alternator/water wheel hybrid, and 3 deep cycle batteries. The idea comes from integrating a variation of Pelton's water wheel with an axial flux alternator, like the ones used in wind turbines(Hugh Piggots model for example), so basically a wind turbine that has little "cups" instead of blades. The pump is to produce enough force to spin the water wheel-alternator hybrid which would generate the electricity needed to operate the pump as well as enough to trickle charge a battery. The …

So, I was reading an article on entanglement the other day that popped up on the main stream media, and it started me thinking. Dangerous, I know. I've always been one of those skeptics in many aspects of physics, like the idea of a big bang, or time, or space-time. I have to see things for myself to believe it. I have to admit, after spending 30 years searching for a better explanation, I always seem to find my way back to Einstein, and the big bang. And believe me, I came to these realizations kicking and screaming. The man was brilliant, and science seems to have things pretty well under control. I never gave quantum entanglement much thought. It was just…

Everything in our observable universe exists in space. Space is not nothing. Invisable energy and matter make up a greater portion of the universe than all of the matter and detectable energy combined. Space is not nothing. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. If you split an atom(smaller than a human eye can see) you get a release of energy hard to miss for miles. If you were to crush all of the "space" out of an atom the reaction must me opposite. Instead of an energy release, I believe energy would be condensed(rather than released) into matter. Black holes are something of the same nature. The idea of a body in space with an infinite density where…

Something I was thinking about since I read "A wrinkle in time", when one of the main characters said she had to give up the form she loved most, which was a "star", but how could she love being that form unless she was conscious while in that form? Which got be thinking, analyzing a star I'm wondering if it's in any way possible they could be alive. They have seeming cycles of birth, life and death, they grow, shed off outer layers, change their form, they have an abundance of natural materials and have plenty of energy which they make themselves like plants in a self sustaining process, they respond to stimuli in a way such as that they have complex magnetic fields and …
