Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

What if Venus was in the goldilock zone at one time and gravity has slowly pulled it out of the goldilock zone, What if that is the future of the planet earth, to be slowly tugged on and pulled out of the goldilocks zone of our star, and as earth is pulled out mars is pulled in? Just speculative thinking.

  2. What might the Universe be like in a fictional reality where gravity was repulsive instead of attractive at subatomic distances? I'd assume it wouldn't make much difference to the average atom or molecule as the masses involved would be too small for gravity to have an effect either attractive or repulsive? However, I did wonder what the behaviour of black holes might be like in this hypothetical scenario. Attractive at regular, human-experience distances and repulsive at the subatomic and Planck scales. Would the mass reach a stable equilibrium between the attractive and repulsive, would the black hole explode once the singularity reached a critical thresho…

So, I want information or algorithm on brain plasticity simulation. My guess is it is related to short term memory because you are constantly changing the shape of the brain based on your observation of the environment. Since the brain does not store information like a hard drive with 0 and 1 bit, the brain stores memory by making connections with adjacent neurons. So my guess is your observation of the surroundings is stored through brain plasticity by changing the shape of the brain through making connections. That's how I am able to remember the things I see. For instance, I see a bird, my brain does not store it as 0 and 1s but rather stored through neuron making conn…

I've already stated this in my other topic and am still speculating how this really makes sense. Thus a universe is finite and beyond the edge of a universe there will be no space pockets to contain matter until the next lump of space viz a viz another universe.

  6. The Michelson/Morley experiment has three solutions. Einstein picked his special relativity solution which matched the instrument. It worked very well because his solution is a root mean square answer which is excellent for circular motions such as a clock spinning around the Earth. The alternative solution would be a Doppler Solution in which the geometric mean of the Doppler is identical with the Einstieinian solution. Thus the instrument can shrink in the forward direction toward the sun and expand in the rearward direction. The result is the geometric mean on of the two answers is the same as Einsteins equations. People have been arguing over these two solutions …

I have a brilliant idea: We can use lasers to transport energy instead of electricity. All we need are two fiber optic cables: The first to transport continuous laser light from the origin to the destination, and the second to transport information, such as from TV stations. If we develop optical computers, we wouldn't have to change the light into electricity.

I've come across an interesting hypothesis regarding the earth's composition, specifically that it's core does not consist of iron, but of hydrogen and is not hot, but cold. Unlike hypothesis like hollow earth, this one seems to fit with known facts like the earth's magnetic field (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_hydrogen). Sadly, I've only been able to find one author that has written specifically about the subject (he's called Neil B. Christianson). Does anyone know of other works regarding the subject than his? Some stuff that he has written about this hypothesis can be found at the bottom of http://www.cthisspace.com/ftl/features.html. He states that …

  10. No. It's not "infinitely complex" because there is no such thing as "infinity" in the real world. It's far more complex than "infinitely complex" anyway. The odds of any given event occuring are effectively less than the reciprocal of infinity. If you ever think they are greater than you're looking at too large a scale or too short a time frame. Maybe I'll just log back out again for a few months now.

Wheeler wanted to reduce physics to geometry in an even more fundamental way than the ADM reformulation of general relativity with a dynamic geometry whose **curvature changes with time. ** Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometrodynamics If there is a way to verify that curvature is a reality, then we may have laid the first piece of evidence for Wheeler's Quantum Geometrodynamics. Indirectly (re)states the bipolar, pair law. Strange said something about a zero momentum frame that bugs me, (=drives me nuts, up the wall) because it is so naive. "There is (always) a frame where the net momentum is zero." Big deal! Whoopy do! 1. Can we measure it? That idea is in his head, science is (about) measurement. Reproducing methods & facts, not just silly ideas (in our heads). Does it tell us anything? Yes. (Almost nothing! It's so naive!) 2. If New york & china are both near dusk, 1 experiences sunrise while the other (experiences) sundown, then the (earth's) net speed to & from the sun is zero. Co…

Where do you find it and how is it produced? It is electricity that is poisonous and extremely cold. It is poisonous electricity that is at a subzero temperature. An absolute zero temperature is something said to not be possible. But energy can go in both directions. It can either go in the "positive" direction such as heat which is temperature above absolute zero. However, energy can also go into the "negative" zone as well which is temperature below absolute zero. Absolute zero is a non-energy state in which everything is completely frozen. However, below absolute zero is an energy state. It is something that has yet to be discovered by science.

  14. I would be willing to bet, that the rotation of the earth is governed strictly by the positions of the moon and the sun, relative to the earth, which could be effectively measured and determined by 2 factors: 1) the distance between the earth and the moon; and 2) the correlation of the points of the cones of darkness, above the domes of darkness, of the earth and the moon.

Logical partitions in modern science quite often sadden me, by reason of the following example: The dynamics of the earth's system/subsystems of evaporation, condensation and precipitation, seem very equitable, or comparable at the very least, to the dynamics of the transport system/subsystems into and out of cells from a biological view. Clouds in the local atmosphere serve 2 vital regulating purposes from a view considerate of the earth's climate: 1) they reflect heat energy from the sun. 2) they help to retain heat energy radiated from the earth (esp. at night). http://water.usgs.gov/edu/watercyclecondensation.htmlThese clouds seem to demonstrate a layer of a mo…

So I'm looking for a way to scan brain tissue at a molecular level, one where you can see not only neurons but individual synapses and observe nerve signal firing. Through my research I found out that the most powerful MRI is able to get to a resolution of 1000 neurons with increased magnetic field and radio signals. As you know only radio signal or tetrahertz signal wavelength is able to penetrate the skin. The other possible solution I found is by injecting a virus that carries the gene for creating solar roof panel like light sensitive protein on the neuronal cell and observe the electromagnetic pulse. Of course you need to be looking inside the brain to capture this l…

  18. The following notion seems ridiculous but I'd be willing to bet it's true (everything that works in the source text seems ridiculous). Gen 30:29-43 illustrates how Abraham's grandson, Jacob, became filthy rich by raising and reproducing flocks of lambs and goats through thoroughbred, rocket-like, reproductive stature. His method, if proven, defies all pseudonyms of the common notion of natural selection. It illustrates how a community of related organisms, having something predominant in common (however ridiculous), will strengthen exponentially. This is the total truth about true biological evolution. (This entire principle is first introduced in Gen10:1-9 [Tower…

  19. The observation beyond space. The final matter (Structure of space pockets) The 21st century universe of science is remarkable, the advances in technology and understanding of the physical matters has but only broaden towards more definite cutting edge analysis. But since the inception of complex theories and phenomenal laws of physics during the few hundred years, science has really broaden wide but even the geniuses in different decades and eras have missed to conclude the beginning and end, the tiniest and the largest of the universe from various perspectives. Although I have to say that in between the anatomy of the first and last i.e. in the middle e…

Have we forgotten something (that might help explain)? https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/scalar-quantity-can-it-be-negative.407547/ Scalar is the magnitude of a vector. I think that's the best description, (that they described) it excludes the direction part of a vector. In other words if you had to describe, "both" parts of a "vector", 1 is its amount, the scalar (quantity); & the other is its (orthogonal=90 degree) "bidirection" (="double" 90 degree or orthogonal as) possibility. That is a subtle (2+1=3) triple meaning, buried hidden inside. We're dealing with (double) 90 degrees, without saying it. Instead (we say) 180 degr…

I think what everyone forgets is gravity is an acceleration g=-(Pi^2) m/(s^2). Acceleration is the only observable, the rest is a math construct with mass constants to taper & balance the equations. Einstein never said it in his equivalence, but if you ask me, the pressure under my feet (or seat) sure feels like a push. Newton also mentioned the centrifugal "acceleration" made the orbits a balance (linear motion tangentially, so to speak). (Escape "speed" is only possible tangentially=horizontal, against the vertical "acceleration".) Let's face, in an expanding universe, why aren't the matter waves expanding too? That's big news for som…
