Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  3. I have heard that Mexicans put out the most number of hours for work globally (https://www.google.com.au/amp/www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/maps-and-graphics/nationalities-that-work-the-longest-hours/amp/). This goes against certain stereotypes which like to point to the idea that Mexicans are unproductive and like to take siestas all day. However, if Mexicans work so hard, why aren't they a developed nation like South Korea or Japan or Singapore which many countries look up to as model economies/countries and try to emulate? Singapore and South Korea were both colonized by the Japanese but their nations have grown in only a few decades from very humble beginnings. In…

The Theory of the Instant Inflation . . . More and more evidence is comming in indicating space is indeed a form of matter. As the reading of this text progresses it will become clear our view of the world is currently unclear. This text will show beyond any shadow of a doubt there was no Big Bang. It will make clear why Dark Matter exists, and show there's no Dark Energy. In the beggining the world was void and without form. What this means is the universe was empty and it had no shape. I won't emphasize how empty it was like Big Bang Theory does. What gives the world shape? God Particles. AKA the Higgs Field. Space. Functional Dark Matter. At the start ther…

Could an ice comet 12000 years ago have initiated the younger dryas period and sea level rise globally? could it happen again?. A ice comet approx. 30km diameter could raise sea levels globally 20m, and could have initiated a global extinction event, and global climate change. A comet would not need to have a direct hit on earth it could be captured in the earths gravitational field and orbit the planet slowly breaking up before coming to earth. A link from the scientific American magazine https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/did-a-comet-hit-earth-12900-years-ago/ Nasa on sea levels https://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/gornitz_09/ One of…

There is a scientist named Gyorgy Egely, he researched the psi wheel phenomena scientifically, and came up with very interesting results. He invented a special psi wheel that is called the "Egely Wheel", that is very sensitive to the telekinetic force. He concluded that the force is not caused by conventional accurances, and that it is a special force not yet known to science. You can type the word "egely" in google and see his website. There is a wikipedia page about him - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gy%C3%B6rgy_Egely but it is in a language I do not know, if someone could translate it I would be very thankful.

My latest thought experiment. What is the difference between a wave and a particle, if not just the scale at which they are measured and calculated. That is to suggest that if the double slits were big enough for the wave to pass through, wouldn't we measure and perceive a particle? If the slits were smaller than the electron wouldn't we perceive a wave? My latest speculative thoughts suggest that scale is relative to the electromagnetic atmosphere that particles travel through. And that waves travel more efficiently through the space than particles because they do not require velocity, and/or acceleration time dilation and particles do. The theory, a) Waves …

  12. "Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a far-away galaxy . . . " Observers calculated that in just a few lifetimes the migrating orbits of two of the plainly-visible planets would bring the actual planets close enough so that the gravity/tidal/proximity effects would be worth watching. So they watched. Very patiently. Naturally they did other things, but they kept this on their calendars. Sure enough, at the predicted time, the orbits were perturbed the predicted perturbations, and the predicted encounter came to pass. Within a few heartbeats of the predicted time, allowing for the light to travel from the event to the Observers, one of the planets began visib…

And I'm sure that same motor will be much more difficult to start after standing still for 5 years in adverse weather conditions, poor starting due to seizing of bearings etc. Motors run in journals, lubricated or self lubricated. These are designed to be self optimising under running conditions, but gravity etc will redistribute the lubricant I see no difficulty with a short period after stopping where the bearing remains close to the optimum.

I am working on a science fiction universe but I didn't want it to be all vague about humanity's progress, I wanted a specific plausible scenario. This is what I came up with: I am calling the plan, Jumpstart the Economy. I took that GDP Per Capita for the United States and estimated that if everyone in the world lived a quality of life similar to Americans, that the world GDP would be around 370 trillion dollars. Currently it is only 75 trillion dollars. That is a huge potential for growth. I think we would eventually achieve it without changing anything but I want to accelerate the process. I was thinking if all the "first world" nations got together and created…

Recently Pluto became a dwarf planet, based on whether it has cleared other matter from the neighborhood of its orbit. Masses too small to be nearly spherical are asteroids, comets or smaller stuff. It seems to me a related naming convention, to signify spherical or not, would communicate important info similar to the dwarf planet title. I believe it will be more important as extremely large telescopes see light; they are likely to find moons.

  16. Many people have questions in regards to what consciousness is and what role it plays. I think a good way to answer one of these questions is by seeing how the brain responds in regards to consciousness. What I mean by this is asking people questions. For example, many altruistic people would be willing to give up their own consciousness and become biological machines if it meant helping others out more in life and accomplishing other selfless endeavors to a higher degree. However, if you were to ask a self-centered individual if he/she would be willing to give up his/her own consciousness if it meant him/her getting more of what he/she wanted in life whether it be po…

  18. Hi Scienceforumers, The international community have spent trillions and trillions of dollars in aid to Africa in programs designed to alleviate poverty however Africa still lags behind most countries in a variety of measures. Corruption, disease, social injustice, poverty and many other issues are at the forefront for many African communities today. Researchers have spent some time studying the DNA of Africans and have concluded that many Africans have a predisposition to a variety of genetic diseases such as sickle-cell anaemia on top of many others. Studies of African-Americans in the USA have also shown that having an African background can increase the likeli…

  19. Abstract of the paper "Pi an Golden Number: not random occurrences of the ten digits". Number Pi and the Golden Section as well as the inverse of these numbers are made up of a series of apparently random decimal places. This paper is on the occurrence order of the 10 digits of decimal system in these fundamental mathematic numbers. It is in fact that the ten digits of decimal system does not appear randomly in the sequence of Pi and in Golden Section. Also, same phenomena operate in many other constants of which the square roots of numbers 2, 3 and 5, the first three prime numbers. 1. Introduction. The number Pi (p) and the Golden Number (φ) and the inverse o…

There is no such (physical) thing as a zero mass particle, because that (so called) thing is a figment of your imagination (=fantasy, science_friction)! A photon has mass (no matter how small it is) because it has momentum mom=m*v. If a particle does NOT have mass (at all) then it does NOT exist, & is only a virtual (hypothetical) point (created by you, as a man_made fantasy) (with zero dimensions). (Otherwise we could call it (at least) a phenomena because it is happening with real (physical) mass.) Any wave, is carried by a (massive) medium (=mass), so mass must be involved. What makes you think otherwise? (Massl…

I'm going to put this here in Speculations from the get-go, because it always seem to lead into some "uncertain" areas. I've been browsing here for a couple of days now, and I feel like there are quite a few very well-informed and talented people here. This is a topic I've been thinking about for years, and I'd be ever so happy if someone can bring me something new to ponder. First of all, let me say what I am not trying to do with this post. I am in no way trying to back-door my way into a religious assertion. I'm pointing this out because I think some people do use this general topic with an eye toward doing that. I am of the opinion that our "minds" involve so…

  24. There is one issue pretty well overlooked by the scientific community. That would be the issue of control by the scientific community itself. I have a Ph.D. in theoretical physics achieved in 1971. I went into theoretical physics because I wanted to understand the universe. As a graduate student, I had a bad habit of reading too much. Every time some professor required us to read a journal article relevant to his work (and some referred to work published back in the times hundreds of years ago), I had the habit of reading the specific journal from cover to cover. I can't say I read every journal in Vanderbilt's library but I certainly read most of them. At any rate, r…

  25. Relativity question: When you make rope waves, the rope doesn't go much of anywhere but the waves do. When you make sound waves, the particles of air don't go much of anywhere, but the waves do. Is it possible that even tho light "waves" move right along at c, the photons are not going much of anywhere, or are maybe even [ G A S P ! ] vibrating in place? (Blasphemy! Heresy! I didn't say that.) Worse! Would that make the array of photons in space be [ S H U D D E R ! ] the Aether?! (I didn't say that, either. Um, the devil made me say it.) Tie me up, men! I can feel another fit coming on. Give me a minute and maybe I can work P…
