Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

I’m sure everyone has seen the signs for “$5 Psychic Readings” in their town or while traveling elsewhere. What I wanted to discuss here were your thoughts on using psychics for more than just personal entertainment, more specifically in police and detective work. There’s been documented cases in the past where police haven’t been able to solve a crime, at which point they turn to a psychic for help. What I find the most interesting is when the psychics they hire actually solve the case. What are your thoughts on this? What about using psychics to help solve some of the current investigations (such as the Peterson or Hacking trials?) I’m not an expert myself o…

What event officially concluded in the year 1969? It began in 1947- Does no one wonder what sparked the government's interest? If it was merely Lockheed U-2A's and Lockheed SR-71's, the occasional aerial flare or weather balloon, would the unparalled expertise of the U.S. Air Force be mandatory? And what of the 5.6% unexplained sightings? What of them?

Emotional Energy: Let me introduce a new type of energy, I have discovered, which I call “Emotional Energy”. Emotional energy is a form of energy concentrated in the unconscious mind of man which gets activated by the feelings of spontaneous disgust, disappointment, desire, wish, sadness ,love or longing but with the condition that if any of these human feelings reaches a certain threshold value of purity. So it is the quality of these feelings which is important than the quantity, volume and frequency. The concepts of miracle, prayer (both positive and negative), “nazar” (I don’t know the English synonym), higher poetry, inspiration, true dreams, creativity…

Google some information on it. Basically some rabbis plugged the bible (in original hebrew) into some computer matrices of some type and found lots words related to important huge events (no examples needed, I think they found most history-book highlights). They claim that the events are found in areas to tight to be excused as simple statistical probability. So the only question is, are there any statisticians here who can find out what systems they used to find all this crap, and if it is in fact too highly improbable to be excused as a false alarm, or if the people studying the code are stretching the truth and making their own assumptions without making sure it is…

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/WEBONLY/resource/sep04/0904nfus.html general question about pseudosci sometimes getting support for political reasons----notorious case of Lysenko "genetics" under Stalin what about the "Starwars" research under Reagan? the idea of building Xray lasers as weapons, and battle-satellites to zap enemy missiles can some kinds of research be supported because they give hope to some segment of the voting public, or get a big play in the press, and not for some more solid scientific reason? what do you think about the US science funding people bringing Cold Fusion research back to life. is there a good reason to do it? or is this…

Please state whether you feel that Humans were created (or engineered) by an outside force (such as aliens) Or if evolution has made us as we are. Same with the development of science/technology...was it developed by an outside force, or did we engineer it ourselves? Please specify which and give an explanation and/or reference. Thanks

In the Book "The Mars Mystery" by Graham Hancock, Robert Bauval & John Grigsby, the authors present a theory along the following lines: Mars was once just like Earth; temperate lands and seas, with poles, an atmosphere, stronger gravitational and magnetic fields etc etc. There was a planet between Jupiter and Mars, which for an undetermined reason, was destroyed by a massive explosion. This exploded planet is now the asteroid belt, and killed off Mars. There is a lot of evidence to support their theory. 1) The asteroid belt is a vast ring of rock and debris in between Jupiter and Mars for which there is no logical reasons for it’s existence presented by NA…

I saw this thing on the history channel, and several like it on discovery, about how almost every civilization before modern times claims that gods came from the sky and gave them information. These "scientists" were talking about the gods are aliens. I think that the people that made those programs watched the Stargate movie too many times. Which brings up the people also said the pyramids were made by aliens.

So many of us have wondered what is the truth of creation? Both Religion and Science have satisfying explanation for it , however both sides conflict eachother and No one really tries to put those 2 together and come up with solution. I have studied ancient sumerians - the first human civilization here on earth and they seemed to have just the right logical explanation. Sumerian knowledge was somewhat denied and avoided by media for some reason, I have rearly saw anything from media that talked about them. The sumerian tablets which were CARBON DATED to prove the age contain very controversial knowledge which seems to be LOGICAL. They explain the creation of huma…

The Egyptian pyramids were machines designed to produce clean non toxic, disease free water. The technology to achieve this feat, was remarkable to say the least. Water, the precious substance on this planet, could only ensure survival if it was sacred, that is not drawn from ground waters, and that included the Nile ! >

This is really wierd and would probably end up here anyway, so i went ahead and made it here. This is kinda an offshoot of a thread about photons being matter or energy. Matter and energy are the same thing. We all know that. Someone made an interesting post on the thread. He said there may be other forms of Matter/Energy. The photon is a blur between matter and energy, and energy and matter are different forms of the same thing. Gravitons are a blur between matter, space, and time. Does that mean space and time are forms of energy/matter?

I don't know, but I think I've had an out of body experience. At least that's what it seemed like, and it's happened more than once. I can lie down and I sort of go into a paralysis or something. It's almost like I'm asleep, only I can see everything around me. And if I concentrate it seems as though I can leave my body. I see myself and everything around me, and I can go into the sky and things like that. I know this is going to be met with a lot of sceptiscism, but that's what it seemed like. Odds are there is a scientific explanation to all this, but it is fun to think that we can leave our bodies and fly about to wherever we like. Anybody have any thoughts …

This may be a little long but it makes so much sense to me, I just want someone else's thoughts on the matter. Thanks. So what do you think of the idea that Gravity is a form of energy, perhaps a high energy form of electromagnetic radiation (higher in frequency than the gamma rays we have been able to detect so far) This radiation (gravity) is felt as a PUSH, not a pull. We (and any other object near enough to a large mass) would feel it as a pull because mass absorbs some of this energy. so we are being pushed in all directions equally except FROM the direction of a nearby large mass. Therefore we would be pushed more toward the Earth (for example) than away.…

ORIGINALY BY NOVOJOEVERCLEAR :: "" Today my biology teacher said that psychic connections can be explained by one brain picking up on the electrical and magnetic fields of another (hence seeing their thoughts). It occurs naturally with people you know well, such as husband and wife, family, close friends, that you will say something you are thinking and that person will say they were just thinking the exact thing. I have had this happen to me before, and the line of thought shared is often not an invevitable addititon on communication currently taking place. This makes sense to me, but i was not aware that the electrical fields of the brain were powerful enough to…

The mechanism of falling object is always an interested topic. Almost all physicists think that gravitational force acts on object and makes it have weight and free fall. Here a very simple experiment negates the above parlance. Galileo demonstrates that different mass bodies increased their speed at the same rate (Stephen [1]). Galileo phenomenon implies that there may be two different mechanisms that govern it. One is the equality of gravitational and inertial mass based on facts that object has weight (Einstein [2]). Another is that falling object is not governed by gravity. Under this condition, falling object must be weightless and stay on how it is left in falli…

Hi... My name is Prashant Sawant, residing at Mumbai(bombay) India. From my childhood i dont belive in god. I think that god does not exist. But now many people are telling me about god, so i am getting confused. I started thinging about it and i found two theories about god and world. These are -- 1. If god does exist then it may be possible that the world is also a "Virtual Reality" created by god. God is a basic intellegence who have designed the world. We know about a VR as seen in movies. So this world what we know is a "Controlled Self Hypnotism" kind of thing for a god. He is doing this to get a pleasure, enjoyment, fun. A dream like Fantasization.…

Anyone attempting to argue the Special Theory of Relativity needs to understand the basics of how light travels, and how we perceive it. Einstein wrote that the speed of light does not depend on the speed of the object emitting the light. To prove this, Einstein referred to De Sitter’s observation of the binary stars, which are two stars that are orbiting each other. De Sitter concluded that if the speed of light were dependant on the speed of the star, then the light emitted from the star as it is traveling towards us would eventually catch up to the light that was emitted from the same star when it was traveling away from us. That logic is incorrect since…

Quite simply, I think people who believe in UFO's and the "little green men" are crazy. A) Traveling the speed of light is impossible. How could they reach Earth then? B) There's been so many "sightings", why the heck would aliens keep coming back? C) People who are "abducted" could very easily have experienced different things. The majority of UFO's are actually planes, satellites, stars, or other such things. It's far more likely that those unexplainable events ARE government projects than aliens.
