Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Religion can be detrimental to societies. Now "evangelical scientists" have created a theory called "Intelligent Falling" that challenges the conventional theory on gravity. They don't fall because they are subject to gravitational force, but instead they believe a higher intelligence --God --is pushing things downward. These people (radical Christians) are totally lost! I can't believe they believe this crap.

And I thought Creationists used bad science and too much name-calling. I would have thought there'd already have been a post on this, considering the age its been around (or so I've been told) but I searched for it and there isn't one. This is not a joke (or at least the website creator doesn't). http://www.timecube.com I found it amusing.

I know this type of theorisation is probably still quite far up the general science agenda but for a couple of hours now I have been looking for different theories on Anti-gravity technology and to be quite honest with only basic secondary school science under my belt, all of these different theories didn't seem to make sense to me because there seemed to be holes in the different theories (well from what I could tell). So being me I started to work out my own theory; now I know that the earth has a gravitation force, but I was wondering whether it has an electronic field some sort of polaric frequency/energy (the though occurred to me when I made the connection that…

  5. Recently, while spending the night at my friends house, I 'confessed' to my 'strange ability'. My friend and I conducted a few experiments and wrote down the silmularities in the colors I see, we found patterns. I also see this in musical notes on a treble clef only. I heard that Mozart had this also, as did Kandinsky, Bauldilare, and other famous writers, composers, and painters. Last night when my friend was trying to find a pattern and I was picking out notes randomly on the piano. Suddenly (We both swear to God) I started playing a Mozart tune. We turned to each other and realized it. I also have a little bit of a sixth sense. I can place my hand on an unmar…

I was reading some of the threads at the James Randi Foundation when I came across this one. In the second post down, Kramer says "The applicant would need to perform significantly above CHANCE results in order to pass the preliminary testing phase of the Challenge. To date, no applicant has passed preliminary testing, and most often, results far below CHANCE are what we actually see." As I understand the concept, if there is no psi ability, then in a sufficiently large sampling we should get a correlation to random chance. As psi ability increases, the correctly perceived results should climb above chance until they theoretically approach unity. Even without …

when i was a kid i was being stupid and took wires that were pluged into a regular outlet(110v) and connected them to a 6v battery in an attempt to charge it. there was a bright flash of light and i was knocked out, later i woke up on the ground VERY dizzy, ever since then ive bein able to feel the slightest electral charge. just by being near it. even as little as a 1.5v aa battery. my only theory was that this is the bodys natral defence to prevent that "shock" from happening again. i was only 10 at the time and didn't know you can't recharge a non-rachargeable battery. i haven't had any negative effects, witch was sruprising considering the power of an EMP that i exper…

  8. There are some theories that the center of the earth is hollow, which I believe can be very much true. I have seen bubbles, and I believe it's tremendously possible that the earth's core is hollow (planets being bubbles of matter floating in space). And that can explain gravity, because if the center of the earth is hollow, it's like a giant vaccuum. And just as if you were to take a bubble's outer surface and push it in, the outward pressure would attempt to fill it in...and if you puncture it, everything from outside caves into the inside causing it to burst. As such, if you dig a hole in the earth, the elements surrounding the hollow center (the vaccum) begin to ca…

Does matter follow precise mathematical laws or is mathematics simply a good approximation and tool used to describe matter ? If all there is is mathematical relationships, then matter and all physics actually doesn't even exist if only as a metaphor for equations. If matter only APPROXIMATELY follows mathematical laws, then there is room for a real metaphysical universe made up of non mathematical items. Could matter and reality simply be what remains after all the equations have been calculated as a sort of error ? Matter is the "error" in our calculations, or it could be that the quantum imprecision is what gives matter some "substance" as opposed as being only mathema…

tell me if this will work: you have a metal rod and at the end is a swivel that can go 360 degrees, you place that device in a tube with two magnets on opposite sides, and both are attractive, you also have both magnets hooked up to the spinning object in the middle, and you start it spinning. Now let's say you set up a program that will switch the magnets on and off, meaning that the attracting magnets switch on when the metal ball is coming towards them on the swivel but switch it off before it pulls the ball all the way to the magnet. Kinda like the sling shot effect caused by planets on space probes. Wouldn't the small generator be self sustaining if it is getting i…

The term depleted uranium is a bit of a misnomer: what it means is uranium that's no-longer radioactive enough for the plant to consider it worth keeping in the reactor. But of course it is still radioactive, it hasn't completely been depleted of all radioactive isotopes, if it had then it wouldn't pose a threat and it could be used to build things. Now just because a massive commercial power station doesn't consider it worth keeping, doesn't mean that it's useless does it? How about if once a major station considers thier uranium to no longer be useful; it gets put in a (now this is why I'm posting this in pseudoscience) domestic generator that only powers a …

  13. Rather comical is Dawkins response to the question, asking to provide "....one single example of a genetic mutation or evolutionary process that increases the information in the genome" The video clip: http://www.answersingenesis.org/AnswersMedia/video/frogPrince.aspx As you will notice, he doesn't provide one and instead summarizes his perspective on evolution. Per the Orginal AIG Article: "Dawkins brings up yet again the false claim that 'evolution by natural selection is a theory of gradual, incremental change over millions of years which starts with something very simple and works up along slow, gradual gradients to greater complexity.' "

I'm not a professional astronomer, astrologer or a conspiracy theorist, but I can't believe the UK or the WORLD'S mainstream media hasn't picked up on the highly increased number of meteor impacts and sightings over the last few weeks. Why could this be? In the astronomical aspect of things this is huge news. Here are some of the main news headlines over the last few weeks from around the World we thought you should know about. Reading a "Perpetual Motion" thread made me think. Can the "Conservation of Energy" Law be misapplied? PM will not work in a closed system because the energy has to come from somewhere, it can't spontaneously generate. Anybody with a basic knowledge must be aware of this. But what about this scenario? If there are other Universes, Dimensions, call them what you will and if we could in some way interact with them, what if a device drew power from one of them? From the POV of the total collection of all Universes, no law is broken as the energy merely moved from one area to another. However, from the POV of the "recieving" Universe energy would appear to be …

John McMaster is a commercial writer, philosopher and author. HOW THEY BUILT THE PYRAMIDS We have spent so many years looking at how they made those darn pyramids. We build elaborate rolling systems "wheels" and ramps to show how they did it. Well here's the answer to an age old mystery. The pyramids were built using a canal system. Look at the evidence. The Egyptians invented the pump. They also built amazing water and sewage systems. "Canals have a very long history, with the earliest example of one being…

  17. Hi there, My question is :Will humans be able to travel through time using their minds instead of bodies as shown in the movie The Butterfly Effect? The subject has been of interest to me since I was little and saw movies such as Somewhere in Time and later on the Fox TV movie 12:01. And if so: What kind of neurophysical mechanism would it take to generate such a phenomena? Any theories on the matter are welcomed. Archon1919

At breakfast the other morning, the subject of water dowsing came up. I was surprised to find that about 3/4 of the people present believed that it is possible to accurately locate water wells, sewer pipes, septic tanks and all manner of things buried in the ground, by the use of bent coat hangers. I just wondered if one or more of you folks could explain the scientific principals behind this phenomenon. Here is a sceptics report on it. http://skepdic.com/dowsing.html And oh, I almost forgot, about 1/2 of them believed that throw rugs always move towards the East. That is to say that a throw rug outside a doorway will creep towards the East when trod up…

Okay, just to sate my own amusement (and mind-numbingly pathetic case of boredom), I wanna get a good grasp on all the best ideas concerning the universe, its creation, and the origin of life, including any new ones anyone might like to share. I don't want theological debates, I just wanna hear ideas from anybody that might be interested. I've also inlcuded several of the more common ideas, just in case someone considers them crackpot but loves them regardless. So far we've got; I - The Sneeze of the Great Green Arkelseizure II - The Flying Spaghetti Monster and His Noodly Appendage III - Sciency Stuff IV - Literal Biblical Stuff V - Intelligent De…

If anyone wants to insist that terrorists cannot make use of depleted uranium, answer this question: Why do they alloy uranium fuel with aluminum? What exactly does this do for the nuclear reactor? It's a rhetorical question for the experts here. This is what happens when you bombard aluminum with alpha particles.

Most of the aliens that have been reported have been humanoid. I don't believe that in all the vast universe it would be likely that aliens from the far reaches who also look like us would come to Earth. I would think that there would a lot more difference. Look at the lifeforms on Earth, and you'd think some of them aren't from here. So my guess is that, if we are being visited or if there are aliens on Earth, the aliens were once from Earth. I think there'd be a lot of resemblence between the DNA. I've heard of alien-human hybrids, and in biology I learned that's only possible if DNA is similar. We know there were, and possibly are still, many hominids. Just recently…

Do they happen? Are they real? I'm an athesit, but today I was talking with a christian theist, and he kept saying that there are tons of cases of people that were parylyzed being healed and people with aids that had their doctors saying that they were going to die in a year, and they went to the doctor and said there was no more aids, after the person prayed for them. Is this true? Discuss.
