Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

I have never seen an alien but Ive seen lots of UFOs and I had an experience one night. I was in bed and I woke up and there was this really loud noise in my ears and my arms were stuck behind my head and I was paralysed for ages. Then the noise stopped and I could move again. It didn't really hit me what was going on at first but then I remembered I had a dream about a man who is bald and was wearing a red suit. He started running on the spot and I tried asking him questions, which he turned into a weird rhyme: Me: “Who are you?” Him: “I’m Slovenly Mick” Me: “What shall I do?” Him: “It’s upto you” Me: “Why are you there?” Him: “Because I don't care” Him: Sl…

In a basis of that, what we name as common sense, there is the principle, according to which, we prefer, from many probable explanations other things being equal, the simplest explanation. And it, basically, is correctly because process of cognition occurs from simple to complex. But, unfortunately, in parallel sciences this principle is observed very seldom. So, for example, two parallel sciences – the physics and the chemistry, investigate the same object – substance. Thus, the physicists should give correct model of a structure of atoms, whereupon the chemists, using this model, should give correct model of a structure of molecules, including, the correct spatial stru…

  3. When Einstein was asked about his Relativity he said: when the station comes to the train. It must be explained that the station is not moving through any space-time to get closer to the train. It is the train alone that accelerates(experiences weight). Therefore relative motion exists only in potential to the absolute movement in space-time of something else. This means that there is no reciprocity of effect in SR. Only the object that accelerates in space-time will experience length and time contraction. An object flying by the earth at very near light velocity will not have to wait to see Earth clocks. And they all will be blueshifted. There is …

  4. London attack: authorities should have predicted this one was coming When Madrid suffered the 3/11 terrorist attack, the extreme similarly of the date to the 9/11 attack started a wave of suspicion that the Al Qaeda Jihad in Europe group was thinking about the symbolism of numbers. Also, the span of days between the two dates was 911 days. Given that ancient numerology most often is concerned with the number of days between dates, the speculation that Al Qaeda was indeed obsessed with numerology was definitely considered as a possibility. Now, don't forget that you need only two points to draw a line, but if you have a third point you can confirm whether you w…

I personally belive it. I'm currently building my own lifter but i'm having trouble finding a powerfull energy source.

I'll put the question here as it would be embarrasing to put it into a "proper" science forum. If under Quantum mechanics, an electron potentially exists everwhere in the Universe at the same time. And if it doesn't actually exist until we actually look at it. Then; Why does the Universe need more than one electron? As can be seen, my knowledge of Quantum mechanics is slightly less than my knowledge of.....well anything, really. I came across the question recently and thought it an interesting philosophical/theoretical one.

First of all, I wonder if any of you have heard of the story of the supposed time traveller who called himself "John Titor" (Timetravel_0). http://www.johntitor.com/ Before leaving our timeline, John Titor himself made several appearances on web forums, and made some scary predictions about the future and discussed the workings of the time machine. I know many of you are experts in different fields of science. What can you tell from the posts of John Titor? Does the time machine, the way he explained it, seem possible? Or does John Titor's whole story seem like an elaborate hoax? Are his posts internally consistent? Are they in compliance with known laws …

Imagine U shape tube. In the bottom of the tube is osmotic membrane, which divide tube on 2 independent tubes. Left tube we fill with clear water and right tube with concentrated salty water. If the levels in both separated tubes are the same - pressure is different from 2 sides of membrane. It is possible to find "h1" of tube, when we get reversive osmotic process and "h2" when "perpetuum mobile" starts. It was taken from http://www.rp-energy.com. Site is in Russian and you should have web translator.

Who is to say that parents who have long ago suppressed or blocked words they heard in their minds from outside sources now send their kids the same telepathic message that are more open these days with parents? I thought it might be a weather balloon but it seems to be moving to fast. Here is the guy's site: http://www.prophetyahweh.com/ From June 1st he said in 45 days something big will happen like it staying over Las Vegas for a couple of days for everyone to see. I personally don't believe it but it's still pretty interesting.

My theory is simple. Gravity is a layer that does not cover everything. Gravity is not around us at all. It is a thin layer that is placed between the border of the sky/clouds and space. When you are underneath the layer gravity is pushing on you, causing anything to go up to be pushed back down. Now when you are above the what i call 'Gravitonic Line' you are being pulled downward. PULL ___________ PUSH Comments?

  16. It only seems to make sense to me that if time slows down the faster you move, then time, for you, is moving faster...and this goes along with physics, as well, whereby frozen particles moving slowly last longer (a frozen person can last a long time and then be unthawed) and quicker things (hotter things) burn up. So if time is moving faster for me, I am aging quicker, right? Whereby the earth itself is still aging slower--because its time is moving slower. It's like traveling in a faster car than someone else--they're still going slower, I am going faster. Likewise, if I'm 5 times faster than them, it takes them 5 times as much time to age as me...so, traveling at th…

I'm putting it in here because I'm not game to ask the question in a more "serious" forum. Since you can't have an electric current without an accompanying magnetic field. And since both magnetism and electricity both behave in sometimes bizarre fashions. Is it possible that electrons don't actually exist? What I mean is, is an electron analogous to a photon? Depending on how you look at it, light can be percieved as either a particle or a wave, hence "wavicle". Could electrons and magnetism have a similar connection, a "fieldicle" as it were? I'm not pushing this a theory, it's just something I've wondered about from time to time. Cheers. (Could we h…

I have absolutely no proof for this but it works for me. I thought this up a few years ago, the funny thing is I had (and if I’m honest still don’t) no idea about physics at all, just a C grade GCSE. After this I went a bit mad thinking I was a new messiah to the world for a few months. It was a very interesting time in my life. The universe is constantly imploding and exploding in and out of two…erm…big bits of nothingness. At the point where it has dispersed as much as it can in our universe it is at its point of most compressed in the other. Our universe is basically a huge version of a black hole and a white hole in two… …is there a word for the outside of th…

  20. If I had to define love in a scientific context; It is when or heart muscle acquires a shape that allows a resonance throughout the body resulting in certain biochemical responses. The most intense of these states is called rapture. If you never experience rapture it can be described as an orgasm of the heart. This phenomenon seem to happen to individuals at unexpected moments. One thing I could tell for certain is this force hits like waves of “love energy” that seems to want to dissolve your physical structure. Another distinct feeling is that this force is emanating from a conscience entity. This feelling seems to act as a carrier wave embedded with in the “…

The universe designs networks of finer and finer connections. Intelligent systems are the finest of these networks, embedded inside a whole hierarchy, like layers of an onion. The First layer we theorize was the big bang. This initial pulses of energy sends out waves of energy and atoms that curl into points of swirling matter. At the center of this points vortices form. From these black holes implode sending out a second pulse a gravity waves. These waves curl into points forming stars bound into the matrix of the galaxy. This structure contains a balance of forces enabling all points to interact though gravity. Some stars explode then create complex elements in a thir…

  25. The Second Ring of Life; The Vesica Attractor by Christopher Humphrey Abstract The fossil record shows a disparity in the formation of complex body plans. The individual eukaryote cannot build these structures. They do not carry within themselves a blue print for an overall structure. Science today is attempting to answer these questions via genomic constraints. Recently discovered fossil evidence has led this author to develop a new evolutionary model that suggest the following; The missing information in the original body design was provided by a wave function acting on a mass of oolitic spheres bound by a microbial substrate. [dissipative structure] Th…
