Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

I would to present an analysis for comment. I figured out a way to plot the eight mathematical singularities of physics with just three variables. Here is the gist of the model. Normally when one talks in terms of special relativity one uses examples like a spaceship traveling near C where its mass, distance and time are all experiencing special relativity. Thinking about this, I began to look at the possibility maybe the three variables do not always change together in a linear relationship. What made me think this way was connected to trying to explain why common matter lasts so long compared to particle accelerator matter. One explanation was maybe common matter i…

This is a list based on Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, his book about pseudoscience, how it's different from real science, and why it seems to be taking over. I think it's very good, and contains what Mr. Sagan calls his "baloney detection kit," which ought to be applied to all arguments, scientific or not. Looking it over, I found it fun to classify the various threads on these boards into categories of logical fallacy. Anyway, the following are suggested as tools for testing arguments and detecting fallacious or fraudulent arguments: * Wherever possible there must be independent confirmation of the facts * Encourage substant…

I'm not sure if this should go here, but it is just a specualtion and not a real theory. If antimatter is just normal matter moving backwards in time then at the big bang, or more accurately when matter formed, Particles and their Anti Partlicles would form with the matter partivcles moving forward in tiem and the Anti particle would be moving backwards in time. Any antimatter that did not immediately annihilat with matter would then have traveled back before any matter existed, and therefore would not be annihilated. This antimatter would continue backwards in time. But what would happen after it got to time 0 (the big bang)? Could this antimatter form a reverse …

So this has probably been figured out, but being a lowley 7th grader, I do not have access to that. I do not know the math to be able to show how gravity would fit in with the EM, strong, and weak forces, but at least this would show how gravity would act upon a black hole; Gravitational Force=Mass x Radius When object 1 has a greater Gravitational Force (GF), than object 2, object 1 will pull object 2 into orbit, when it is acting over a vacuum. With something like the sun and the solar system, the sun's GF would only have to be greater than each of the planets to pull them into orbit. When there are 3 objects, and object 1 has a bigger mass than objects …

The first star wars program may have failed, but it would be reasonable to assume that another one will be started or has already started. Is the concept even possible? And if so, how far do you think we are from being able to make it?

I have a kind of hypothesis, of sorts. But there was something I just need to clarify. Does an object travelling at exactly half the speed of light, get contracted to exactly half of it's "rest" volume - thus exactly doubling it's "rest" mass? What about at 25% of light speed, and again at 75% of light speed? If this is not the case, is there any kind of reference chart to show the progression between an object at rest and the resulting volume/density (with regard to this rest mass) as it approaches the speed of light, where (at least in the way I'm working my hypothesis) would make it a two dimensional volumeless and essentially an object of "infinte mass"? …

i heard of them, and used one once, it was really freaky. even for me. later ill say what exacly happend. my question is, what is the history behind the Ouija board. ive tried searching for it on google, but all i found is where to buy one. what are some opinions on them? Ouija boards suposidly contact spirits. my expeirince was freaky enough, im not sure caused it.

A Russian scientist claims that the Russian and US governments are in possession of some recent alien footage. He posted a brief segment on the net and is threatening to expose all of the footage. There is an investigative website that is scrutinizing this ordeal. http://www.geocities.com/kbat_alien_footage_investigation Is it real or too early to tell?

Hi I have used this web site on at least a dozen occassions as a reference for writing and I thought I would share some of my work. This is an article I am working on for a Middle-earth science web page that I've always wanted to do. If anyone has any ideas or suggestion for more articles or how to improve on this one, go for it. Ultimately this web sight is just for fun and my own interest in trying to apply what is known about science and the paranormal and find a harmony to the the realm of Arda which is definitly woven in to it’s tapestry. That’s the beauty of Middle-Earth is it not? The harmony of story, even the parts that contradict or appear to be enigmas…

Albert Einstein, "Relativity", Chapter 7: "There is hardly a simpler law in physics than that according to which light is propagated in empty space. Every child at school knows, or believes he knows, that this propagation takes place in straight lines with a velocity c=300000 km/s." Chapter 22: "...the law of the constancy of the velocity of light in vacuo, which constitutes one of the two fundamental assumptions in the special theory of relativity and to which we have already frequently referred, cannot claim any unlimited validity. A curvature of rays of light can only take place when the velocity of propagation of light VARIES WITH POSITION." The rational world…

I've heard several people say that they believe there used to be humans on Venus, millions of years before they were on Earth. Scientists have said that Venus was once very similar to Earth, and probably had oxygen and oceans. I found an article that talks about some of this here: http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/venus_life_040826.html Some scientists say that ancient humans lived on Venus that were more technologically advanced than us. However, pollution and possibly a nuclear war has left Venus in its current state. Does this sound possible?

There's a study out there that proves the body loses 3/4 oz. of weight at the instant of death. Has anyone heard of this study? Does anyone know where to find its publication? If anyone believes in these results, do you know if it's been replicated? If you believe in these results, do you have any other explanation other than the "soul" leaving the body?

Russian molecular biologists (Drs Gariaev & Poponin) have found that the chromosome acts as a solitonic/holographic computer and that it is a superconductor at body temperature. German writers (Fosar & Bludorf) have written a book entitled Vernetzte Intelligenz where they argue that at the DNA level there is a hypercommunication of information amongst all sentient beings. This networked intelligence can account for all paranormal phenomena such as OBEs, mentaltelepathy, deja vu, crop circles and UFO experiences. Essentially the networked intelligence creates a collective unconscious that unifies all life. This is what the Hindus have been arguing all …

I just found this very interesting article. Does cold fusion and fission really occur everyday in living organisms? http://www.bio.net/hypermail/MOLECULAR-MODELLING/1997-October/001009.html A number of chemists report that plants, animals and human beings ROUTINELY TRANSMUTE MID-RANGE ELEMENTS (for example, potassium into calcium or magnesium into calcium) AS PART OF THEIR ORDINARY DAILY METABOLISM. These transmutations obey rules such as: Mg + O => Ca; K + H => Ca. This is revolutionary since, according to current physical theory, the energy levels required for such transmutations are billions of times higher than what is available in biological…

i read somewhere about dark energy and acceleration in the universe... i may have a better solution. now i don't know much of anything in physics but i am assuming that time can flow at different 'rates' else where in the universe. with that said, instead of actual acceleration; i propose a perseaved acceleration due to time differences. for example: locally we see a ball travelling a constant 3 m/s, at a different place there is another ball travelling 3 m/s. here, in 3 seconds we have seen the ball go 9 meters. now the other ball also travels 9 meters in 3 sec but the other time could be described as a function of our time x = local time and y = other time as func…

If one looks at cells, once the structures of cells are positioned, new proteins seem to know where to go. The cell is not helter-skelter, but rather distinct cellular proteins and the distinct configuration which they define are positioned within the cell. Ion pumps always find the cell membrane. The ribosomes don't usually become active within the nuclear membrane but usually leave the nuclear membrane and diffuse to their asigned postions within the cytoplasm to become active, etc. There is no little traffic cop directing intercellular traffic yet the materials know where to go. Random motion is out of the question. The reason they diffuse to distinct positions is…

creationism, evolution, and religions that are 'of intrest' to the pupils should be taught.. those who say God should be left out of the science room as evolution does not deny the existence of God, I disagree with.. its not about denying his existence.. Evolution to many denies the existence of God 'as they know him' (i.e. through scriptures). I'll give an example.. When I studied science, our head of science at school aggressively tried to convince us that man and ape shared the same ancestor.. Now that rang alarm bells in the heads of the Muslims and Christians in the class,.. as it should.. We've been bought up to believe that God made Man from clay.. the…

This Buddhism site suggests that there is evidence to support reincarnation…. http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/qanda05.htm here are some highlights: Question: How does the mind go from one body to another? Answer: Think of it being like radio waves. The radio waves, which are not made up of words and music but energy at different frequencies, are transmitted, travel through space, are attracted to and picked up by the receiver from where they are broadcast as words and music. It is the same with the mind. At death, mental energy travels through space, is attracted to and picked up by the fertilized egg. As the embryo grows, it centers itself in th…

Well, this seems like a good place to start... I am an author/scientist who has written a book about the Creation/Evolution/ID debate. My concept addresses the following statement: A significant portion of the population is influential enough to cause our legislature to pass laws that restrict the freedom and funding for scientific research. One significant factor is the misconceptions that these people buy into concerning science. I believe the source of the misconceptions lies in the translation of scientific journals by unqualified members of the media. These unqualified media writers then add their sensationalistic twists and you have a controversy. My so…

http://www.holoscience.com/news.php?article=0auycyew 27 October 2004 The True State of the Universe "... almost the entire body of astronomers can go wrong in a way that, in later years, seems absurd. To hear scientists talk today, you would think the first moment in human history in which nonsensical views are not widely held is now." - Fred Hoyle, Home is Where the Wind Blows. Those who profess to understand it do not know the true state of the universe. In recent months two of the most popular science magazines have produced special supplements. Scientific American published "The Secret Lives of Stars." New Scientist published State of the…
