I have some microscope slides with brain tissue slides on them. They have a glass cover slip over all of the slices. I'll do oil drop on them in order to observe, but when I'm cleaning up I have to use alcohol. It's been a while since I've walked into the laboratory, and it's difficult for me to get a hold of my supervisors. As such, anyone know which alcohol I should be using? Isopropanol? 70% ethanol? I cannot seriously recall nor reason as to why not to use one rather than the other.

I am an American without Health Insurance, right now i cant really go to a doctor. so i'm hoping someone around here may have some knowledge on the subject. It runs in my family, and i have some, but not all of the symptoms. Excessive thirst and urination. Occasionally blurry vision. I dont really have excessive hunger, in fact i really dont have a big appetite in general ever. I dont really know how to measure excessive fatigue, sometimes im tired when it seems i shouldnt be, but i wouldnt call it excessive. The primary thing for me is the excessive drinking and thus urination. If i dont drink enough i start to feel nauseous. In everything ive read about diabetes…

Hi: I'm currently thinking of a substance that has similar medical effects as caffeine [such as increased sense of energy and the decreased perception of exercise-induced pain]. However, this hypothetical drug does not have any significant or direct effects on the urinary system, sweat glands, digestive system, respiratory system, or circulatory system. What actually-existing substance most closely fits the categories I'm looking for? Thanks, GX

can spraying too much deodorant/anti-persp on your body cause harm other than the aluminum content. Specifically, the ant-perspirant blocking the sweat glands. If someone were to spary or apply this stuff all over their body can it cause illness or death?

I know that the best age for getting braces is around 10 to 14 years old but I heard that if you get your braces later than that age range, its possible for your teeth to revert back to what they were (in other words a waste of time adn money) before you wore your braces. so even though your teeth will be fixed in good positions when you wear your braces, maybe after a year or few years....your teeth will just revert back to the crooked positions they were before. Does any1 know if that is true?

I saw another case of mrsa infection on the news today. Is this curable? I hear that copper is a good material to disinfect. Doxycycline works but it causes fungal infections and chest pains. Oral antibiotics seem to work, but topical don't do much. Draining them is not good for the environment so we need to find a way to utilize it or cure it. What else is known about the disease?

I was shocked to find recently that there is apparently a lot of animal and some human data showing that antibiotics have a negative effect on male fertility. Given how serious this is, I couldn't believe this isn't more widely known and I was even more shocked at how little human data there is, again, given the seriousness. Does anyone know whether these effects are permanent? From the review I'm currently reading, it seems the effects usually last a long time post-treatment (weeks or months) and whether they are permanent or not is usually not answered due to how short the followup is. But certainly, the effects will usually still be present many weeks post-tr…

A lady told me that she substitutes grape fruit and tomato juice for coffee. She says its a real energy booster. She drinks a full glass of grape fruit juice in the morning and then at noon she has two glasses of tomato juice with her lunch. Now I doubt this can have the same stimulating and energy boosting effects as caffeine but I'm wondering if there's anything to the claim that grape fruit juice and tomato juice can boost one's energy to even a small degree.

Here are two methods currently being used in the US http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/daily/graphics/sexselection_121404.html It costs a few thousand dollars, but many families think it is worth it for what they call "balance". Like for instance they already have 4 boys and the mother really wants a little girl. Or they do it because of some genetic problem that runs in the family and is only expressed in males, or passed down in the male line, so they choose to have daughters to avoid an inherited handicap. And maybe other families do it for what you might think were frivolous reasons. But anyway it is legal and clinics that do it advert…

Congress is poised to pass legislation to allow government money to be spent of stem cell research with embryos provided from furtility clinics. These embryos would have to be expressly donated by their owners (parents) and would otherwise be distroyed as medical waste. The religious right is opposed to this and President Bush has said that he would veto such a bill. Is the potential for medical breakthroughs in diseases and birth defects great enough to override the concerns of the religious people in this country who oppose it? Or do we already have enough stem cell lines to work with.

I've recently heard the term "Ionizing Cells" which - as far as I understood - stands for an effect caused when a biological cell is being "stripped" from ions - usually due to high radiation - which causes cell mutation and growth and aventually tumors and cancer. First of all, is that true, or have I understood it wrong? Secon, if that's indeed true, then Skin Cancer - caused by ionizing radiation from the sun - and other tumors caused by radiations are "understood" by this cause and effect - but then, why are cigarettes, smoke and other polluted substances also concidered to cause cancer? Thanks heaps, ~moo

Hey guys. I've been told to take this to aid me in my hyperhidrosis. I went to a doctor and he prescribed me neurotonin which contains something called gabapentin. I'm not sure if it's the same GABA I looked up on the internet that comes in pills and powder form like some sort of supplement (vitamin packaging and whatnot). Can someone aid me on this? And what would be better, powder or pill form if I want to order some online? Much thanks.

Although I'm used to hearing from doctors and nutritionists about milk being good for you, I've come across some almost convincing arguments for the idea that it isn't. Here's an article, though it's a bit long: http://www.notmilk.com/kradjian.html And for those who don't want to bother with the article, here's a video: It's a bit disturbing to think that even nutritionists would be misinformed on this subject; but the arguments for why they would be sound somewhat plausible. As a type 1 diabetic, I hope they find out what's causing this disease, and if it really is milk, I hope the diary industry gets punished for it.

I have several friends and family members who have diabetes. Because of this I end up getting tipped on meidcal news regarding disease quite frequently. Lately everyone is abuzz about this new medical procedure that is apparently curing diabetes in the majority of patients... as well as high blood preasure, and obesity. It soulnds too good to be true, and I am working my way through the journal articles, but I felt that it is intriguing enough that I would clue folks in here in case they suffer from diabetes and haven't heard of it yet. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/03/080305113659.htm

Hi: A 23-year-old slim and athletic patient is admitted to ER with extremely sharp and intense pain localized deep in the middle of his chest. The pain is steady and does not radiate anywhere, it just stay in the middle of his chest. He says it feels like "a knife in my heart". No nausea/vomiting, no shortness of breath, no feeling of chest pressure or tightness. According to patient, the pain started of as barely-noticeable but gradually became excruciating as an hour passed. Type of pain [sharp] and location [middle of chest] remained the same throughout the episode. Upon entry to ER, heart rate is only 35 bpm. Heart beats are very strong and cause patient's ch…

Should a vein become exposed to the exterior of a human body and the skin where to heal around it what would happen to the vein? Would it do the opposite of what a foreign object would do and actually bury itself back into the body? Would it just continue to reside on the exterior of the body? Why would this happen in the first place:rolleyes:..........chirurgie........don't ask:-)!

Hello Experts, I am 38 years old man with 68 Kilo, 169 cm height. As per BMI index calculator in internet, my BMI index and weight is correct for my height. However, even though, I am not overweight, I have considerable belly and almost flat butt. This is becoming a topic of my social frustration. Needless to say, when I do bit more workout, I reduce my weight and then start leg aching, back aching and other problems. I am occasional beer drinker and do not overeat. I am working in software, hence sit for long hours at one place. This might be reason for belly. I occasionally swim and cycle. However, in some minutes, I get breathless or near to feeling …

recently i came across this question in one of the scientific journals, that man can theoretically live up to a hundred years. it stated that man can, with the help of current technology and the vast leaps and bounds in medical science, along with progress in the genetics field. so i am here to conduct a poll whether man can live up over hundred years. if you do support it and agree, please state why. would appreciate if people who don't agree would also supply reasons. thanks........ maybe i should rephrase my question. with the advances in anti-ageing science, can we live beyond 100? if so, technically how is this possible?
