Hello all. That vertical standing screen prevents sparking ambers (¿is that the word?) from burns reaching wood floors, carpets... Is there a proven 'eye' size that works best ? Does it work as a 'spark arrester' ? And for the heat part; can some screen 'eye' size impede the heat transmission, like a microwave oven does need to block the emission of microwaves ? If it does impede the heat from passing trough, the screen would heat up more and release the heat into the room air, right ?

This thread has been spawned by a discussion I sparked in my thread on system entropy being relative by my use of the English letters Þorn (big: ‘Þ’, small: ‘þ’), which stands for the voiceless dental fricative, and Ðat (uppercase: ‘Ð’, lowercase: ‘ð’), which represents the voiced dental fricative. I meant to talk about physics there, not speech, so I’ve taken the linguistic discussion thence hither. You made some intrysting points in that other thread, so I'll respond to them here. Markus Hanke wrote: I disagree. While I know that Icelandic distinguishes these sounds in phonology and orthography, English effectively doesn’t, so there’s no point in…

I wish to talk about invariance of scale. The complexity theory version of invariance of scale. This phenomenon is intriguing, and I believe that this might be an example of it. Am-i right in my assessment? I also would like to know if there are similarities between the physics and complexity sense of invariance of scale? Hope that I am doing it correctly this time!

I came across on YouTube a channel called 'Fight SCIENCE'. I respect some of the YouTuber's martial art techniques, however he also makes videos based upon deescalation and how to completely avoid violence in the first place by using methods which I personally consider bordering on madness. He makes a video called "what to do if a person with bad intentions stares at you", and he explains that you should look at them in order to let them know that you are not scared by validating them, and then look away because you don't want to be drawn into an ego battle, and this lets the bully know that they are unimportant to you. Hi. From what I learned; sowing a seed from a fruit does not imply the new tree will yield an equal 'quality' fruit as the parent produced. I think the trees that grow from dropped seeds/fruit naturally germinated in the forests fit the same process as above. Is that called 'heirloom' ? Does it mean the naturally germinated trees = heirloom would likely be hundreds of varieties deviating from the parent ? Does it happen on all plants -say beans, onions, strawberries- or is it restricted to some clade/family/genus...? Will fruits from these be all equal or same as their parent if all seeds came from same single fruit?

Hi there, I often see on the news military analysts using phrases like "...a meeting engagement" or "...along the line of contact". I would like to know more about these and similar terms. What subject or type of textbook should I be reading to learn more about this? People will often refer to books like Sun Tsu Art of War etc etc but it isn't really what I am looking for. I think of the Art of War as being strategic principles. They don't actually describe or explain terminology used in battles. As an aside, I also don't understand why the Art of War is often recommended reading. It seems like the principles could be reworded to be clearer and put in a more mod…

Greetings. A plain young single apple tree not supposed to self pollinate; receives in some branches, a few grafts from cuttings of other apple varieties which are good candidates for fruiting. Will it work for pollinating the single tree itself instead of need for a compatible orchard around ? Would it also happen among/between the grafted branches ? Is that called 'cross-pollination' ? Is there a preferred season for grafting ? March ?

Stuff like pictures of a chip under a microscope and such, stuff that shows the physical damage. I know that general consensus is that electronics will be destroyed by an AMP, but I'd like to look up at what point or conditions would a device just need to be rebooted or if it will be unaffected. I'm wondering if work over the years to protect electronics from electrostatic shock would add some form of resistance to them?

One of my newest videos. At first I wanted to make educational videos but that did not work out. So I resorted to my cousin Dominic's mockery of the ai voice. I somehow got it to do that. Anyways, I like posting these videos and I was wondering if their is pcycology other than hooks that will grab their attention. Like what can I do to keep them entertained and not swipe away. Anything? I need my channel to grow so I can make a quick buck.

MIT did a study a while back regarding tailgaiting and traffic jams. I can’t seem to find the actual report, but it appears looking at the graphic that the analysis was confined to a single lane. My hypothesis is that this effect is compounded in a multi-lane scenario, based on my observations driving in DC traffic. An additional source of trouble here may be people that are obligated to change lanes, but have to wait for a gap in traffic, thus slowing down their lane. The tendency of people to try and switch lanes to the faster moving lane may also exacerbate the issue. I would also expect that a sudden unsafe lane change (cutting someone off) could exhibit sim…

Good day. Done it many different ways year after year, bought seeds, extracted my own, dried, fermented, raw,... would like to know differences when removing the germination impairing gelatinous tissue around the seeds. Fermenting the seeds creates a mold on them that decomposes the germination impairing 'gelatin. Washing later, leaves clean seeds ready to dry them. Now, can that mold residue cause later illness of the growing plant ? Is my method of only brushing the extracted seeds in a sieve producing the same effect ? Also, some occasions seeds were planted before the drying stage. Is drying mandatory ? What differs ?

Hello, Is there any way to do ghosting with a card on a table without trying to use cloaking? It seems very simple but probably can not be done without adding 1 extra dimension of space & 1 of time. And don't worry, I am not going to be using this to cheat at cards, because it would require extra equipment to do so. I also want to to try this on other small objects The general idea is to entangle a graphic image on a 2D screen with our regular 3D 1T world. Thanks for any help. Check it out here at: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/237387078

Greetings. How much of it is illusion or how much is a real illusion ? Never seen it before. How does it work ? There is a tiny video in the advertisement. Does it mean only specific simple images tailored for it can be 'projected' or any images can ? ---> https://www.temu.com/turn-your-phone-into-hologram-projector-3d-hologram-projector-pyramid-mobile-smartphone-hologram-3d-hologram-display-stand-projector-for-any-phone-innovative-toys-educational-toys-for-kids-g-601099518058229.html?top_gallery_url=https%3A%2F%2Fimg.kwcdn.com%2Fproduct%2FFancyalgo%2FVirtualModelMatting%2F4ca44dc166c457f91ecc7a60eebb2ee2.jpg&spec_gallery_id=2000992561&refer_page_…

Im no scientist or anything, so please dont be surprised if this post is lacking in a lot of logical things I am missing here, please correct me if that is the case. So ive just logged into this forum and I need help on one of my theories. The only thing I need to know if the following theory is true or not, both logically, and with actual evidence. Ive seen this theory floating around about how with quantum fluctiations, in a theoredically infinite ammount of time, an infinite ammount of completely different things, both big and small, will all happen and infinite ammount of times. Just to confirm, is this true?

Hello. Germinated indoors in January, now my oxheart tomato plants are fruiting reaching 1.30m. Read about trimming, topping, thinning, pruning... Question. Can an adult fruiting tomato plant be topped down like at 60 - 80 cm height keeping its roots intact and moved indoors during the winter season, kept from too much growth by pruning; to have a mature and well grown plant ready to resume production in next spring, with no need to wait 4 months from seed to become just a young plant, perhaps even fruiting indoors meanwhile ? The point is to keep alive a plant that otherwise would freeze-die in order to gain/save future time.

I was reading a collection of short stories by the Japanese writer Akutagawa and one of the stories in the collection is called Kappa, which is apparently a creature from Japanese folklore that lives in rivers and ponds and described as follows by Wikipedia: They are typically greenish in color[7] (or yellow-blue[8]), and either scaly[9][10] or slimy skinned, with webbed hands and feet, and a turtle-like carapace on their back. This reminded me of the Creature from the Black Lagoon (aka The Shape of Water creature), although I don't know whether that creature is based on folklore or just an invention of 50s b movie writers, and it also reminded me of a claim I'm…

Greetings. Is there a method with science instead of the tales of experts, to analyze if a mushroom will put me in a casket or not ? My backyard has since a couple of days, shiny gold color 15cm. mushrooms on sunlight, silver color when overcast. How to preserve them alive or ensure their propagation ? The smell is just like fresh champignons. Went to take pictures a moment ago, a visitor intruded. Color today shows as more whitish. Would a close-up image of some part help identifying ? Adding pictures...
