I'm currently in my second year of college, majoring in biology. I don't live in the US but I eventually hope to transfer to a university there (or in Canada) next year. Recently though, I've been reading the experiences of many biology majors and a huge number of them actually regret getting a BSc in biology. I was initially thinking of getting my PhD after I'm done with my degree, but then I was told by many that they weren't satisfied and financially well-off, even. I'm also uncertain how I will finance the PhD program. I have a passion for physics and I decided biology over physics instead, but I don't know if I made the right choice. I haven't taken a physics clas…

Over 500 years ago Archimedes study of motion was the closest to Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. At the time of the Great English plague in the 16th century in the interest of calculating the motion of the planets Isaac Newtown discovered the laws of motion. Just over a hundred years ago Albert Einstein's study of motion reveled the significance of a force of motion on a light speed scale. One of Newton's laws in particular is significant in the fact it states where there is a force there is an equal and opposite force. I'm not talking about the force of rocket engine lifting a couple of thousand tones or objects bouncing off each other. I'm talking ab…

Hello, I'm currently a high school student with about a year remaining of my secondary education. This of course means that I have to take considerations when it comes to choice of post secondary education. My country (Not from the US so sorry for bad English) doesn't really a liberal arts-ish education thus I kinda have to specialize from next year onward^^;; I'm good with most subject and am fond of both science and humanities, which only makes the decision harder. Which brings me to this question: I'm fairly aware that this site is mildly biased but I wanted to ask if there was any reason to pursue a scientific education rather than a humanitarian one, compa…

Hello everyone, I would like some advice and opinions on a question. I am in school for an environmental geoscience degree. I have to pick and emphasis and these are my three options. Ecology, GIS, and Physical Science. The school recommends Physical Science saying students need it to pursue a Masters. But I think any of them will allow you to go after a Masters Degree. I think enjoy ecology but I believe the Job market just doesnt exist. I believe there would be more jobs with a GIS background. So Should I go GIS or do Physical science to make sure I can get into a Masters Program?

  6. Hi, I'm Jada, and I want to be an astronomer. I'm in the tenth grade currently, but I need to start planning for college/university, in my opinion. I know there are really good schools out there, but that's the problem. I need to know which one is best for me. How do I do that?

Good day all! I served in the military as an Artillery Ballistic Meteorologist and that's where my interest in weather and outer space truly began. Now that I'm married with a stepson, he's taken an interest in some of the sciences as well which I'm absolutely excited about! Unfortunately, we can't afford a high end telescope at the moment, but it's no big deal because I came across a really awesome downloadable program that covers some really awesome aspect of space exploration! My sister-in-law is an intermediate school teacher and began using it to assist her in her classroom. I just thought I'd share it with everyone, because this has helped me spread a love for space…

  9. Hello, everyone. I'd like to know how may I become a neuroscientist as fast as possible? As far as I'm concerned I need to graduate in any kind of course first so then I can study neuroscience, (at least that's how it works here in Brazil). I also would like to know, what's the best place to be a researcher, and how can I start doing it as fast as possible? How is the market nowadays? What is the best country for it? Also but not so important, is it profitable? Thanks in advance.

  10. Hello, I have previously posted here asking for an advice about pursuing career in bioinformatics. I decided to not go into this direction and I have weird, but interesting option on my mind. Youth is a beautiful things, all those ideas and paths crossing my mind and I'm truly lost in what I want to go for, although I want to focus on development of myself and do what I will enjoy in life. I'm new here although I was following this forum for a while. I'm currently about to finish my second year at the university in Poland. I'm going to grab Bachelor title in Biotechnology next year. I have done a lot of research recently on job prospects in Biotechnology and it's su…

Hello to every one my name is Teodor , and i love Physics and engineering but i can't got to college . The reason why i can't it is because my teachers from high school hated me and did not wanted me to go to university so they left me with 3 In my diploma ( in the Bulgarian grade system 2 is the lowest 3 is pass and 6 is the highest ) , but i can't blame them i was in tourism high school In the Hotel management class . The only reason i was there was the fact that it was the closest high school and my family could not afford more . but to be honest i wanted to go in the Electric school , I was interested in wires , batteries , electronics , machines and computers . 12. What all these engineering schools are doing in educating engineers to carry on the great work that technology has done so far. Actually they have not changed the course they follow for decades, they only change some procedures of secondary importance but not of substance. Theory first for higher education, there is no question about it, only theory though in engineering education is half the work done. The subject chosen, manufacturing, is a sound example in my opinion. I believe that 90% of universities don't teach their students what really manufacturing is, because they don't send them to the factory floor to complement their theoretical knowledge and student…

  14. I'm currently a biochemistry undergraduate. I have a 3.6 GPA and I'm currently working in a lab for the summer working with zebrafish and using PCR, qPCR, and gels. I think I have myself on a pretty decent path with this research, and I plan to join another lab this fall to expand my knowledge and skills and resume. I went to college with the hope of being a professor and university researcher. I'm very aware at this point how incredibly difficult it is to get tenure and the amount of politics involved really discourages me from wanting that. I feel like I would enjoy being a physician, as I enjoy hands-on things as well as statistical and computer use (I am sort of a…

  15. The majority of students study for the exams and just before the exams. At the most they will do some homework during the term, if it counts significantly for the grade. (Most of the time though, only 10% in college.) This is not the best way to add knowledge, that is studying the day before the examinations under pressure, doesn't function very well for learning sufficiently in depth, we must admit. Wouldn't be better for learning, to continuously work on (creative) project assignments, (that require critical thinking) so studying will spread smoothly along the term, without being left for the day before the testing, with the main objective of studying to be: "Let'…

  16. What's up guys, this is my first post here. I just enrolled in a community college here in Jacksonville that will give me guaranteed acceptance to the University of North Florida which is also here in town. I was originally looking for an environmental science B.S. but UNF only offers a B.S. with the title "Ecology/Evolution Biology". I'm curious if this would affect my ability to find an entry level research tech or similar position out of school and I'm also curious about all possible career paths I could take with this degree on my resume. I don't currently have anyone in my life that works in this field so I'm kind of going into this blind. Any advice you can give wil…

I will be finishing a degree in bioinformatics within the next two years. I have been wanting to pursue a PhD in evolutionary biology for sometime now, but whether or not I felt I was capable of doing so has been suspect. I have a general idea of what a PhD involves, but I'm not very familiar with the process, from trying to get accepted into a PhD program to completing a PhD. I was hoping someone here could enlighten me. I have good grades now, but I had a pretty shaky experience at my first university. I'm not exactly sure that ecology and evolution is the path I want to take. I mean, it is the subject I am most interested in, but I'm not sure if it will lead me to…

  19. I am looking for a quantification of my knowledge of college subjects that I could put on a resume, and preferably something that is free. It could supplement my course grades, and especially so if I continued to maintain that knowledge or never took that particular course. Thank you for your help! There are the CLEP exams on Collegeboard, but they cost $80. https://clep.collegeboard.org/exams Regarding computer science, I would think that the Linux community, being open-source, would have plenty of people willing to create free Linux tests.

Hello everybody, I am working on a non-profit project which will let any student get free books and self-educate with ease. Throughout my life I found that self-education is one of the best things you can do to improve yourself and I want to make it a more common thing, thus why I created a forum-like place where everybody can learn with entertaining videos from many creators and a PDF library that will contain all of the educational books from all over the globe in as many languages as possible. And ofcourse this project is not very easy for a 16 year old kid so I decided to post here for help. May you help me with: 1. Finding education books (or online librar…

Best tips to solve physics problem Don't panic, students always panic towards a given problem on physics, because physics seems to carry with it this aura that it is difficult to solve. I will give you few tips to solve any given physics problem. 1.Be calm:Take a deep breathe, don't rush the situation, try to understand the situation. Take advantage of it, and you can have an amazing impact solving that problem. 2.Critical Reading:Learn to go through a given question before ever attempting to solve.
