Hello, I live in Serbia, and here you finish primary school at the age of 14/15, after that you need points that you get from your grades and a final test to get into a good school. In my case, I can get a scholarship, but I need to have an amazing project on a science fair. I was wondering if building a flying saucer using Ion wind's would be sufficient. What do you think?

I am currently a freshman in high school and I am looking to make a science fair to get into nationals. I've come up with a few ideas, such as creating an alternative to stagnant waters with cyanobacteria, but there already seems to be an invention for that issue. I've spent so much time researching, but I just can't seem to find a good topic and a good solution to my topics. Can anybody help me with some ideas?

Let p1 is the price of commodity in year 1 Let q1 is the quantity of commodity in year 1 Let v1 is the value of commodity in year 1 then p1*q1=v1 similarly for 2nd year let p2*q2=v2 now growth in p in percentage = (p2-p1)/p1*100 growth in q in percentage = (q2-q1)/q1*100 growth in value in percentage = (v2-v1)/v1*100 (p2-p1)/p1*100+(q2-q1)/q1*100 is not equal to (v2-v1)/v1*100 i.e. growth in p +growth in q is not equal to growth in v. Now I want to know how much the growth is attributed by price and quantity. Is there any formula or technique? Thanks and Regards

I recently started my doctorate program in geosciences (I just finished my first semester). I have a bachelors and masters of science (with a concentration in hydrogeology). I have prior work experience in both environmental consulting and oil/natural gas exploration and production. When I applied to the university, I had a general idea of what I was interested in, which is water resource availability and climate change. The professor I entered under told me that it was okay to apply without a definitive topic and that we would figure it out. Well now I am being pressed to write my proposal (which is due by the end of the third semester) and I am not receiving any guidanc…

Hello Scientists! I’m setting up a crime scene that has “bloody” evidence -- shoeprints, knife, etc. (The ‘blood’ is simply red paint.). I would like the team members to perform a Kastle-Meyers test on the ‘blood’ … some coming up positive (pink), others negative for the presumptive test. I’ve purchased synthetic blood (which isn’t necessarily cheap, and has a limited shelf life once opened) to which I can apply on top of the paint and get the pink reaction using phenolphthalein and hydrogen peroxide. Question: What inexpensive chemical (solution) can I apply on top of the red paint to get the same (pink) reaction? (That chemical would need to be tra…

Hey there! I am currently in highschool (plus I'm pretty dumb lol) and I need help with the Klein-Gordon-Equation. I need to show that a plane wave: Aei(Et-pr) is a solution of the equation. Yes, I know I just have to plug it in, but I don't know how to use operators and I don't know how I should get the relativistic energy momentum relation from it. If you could help me I would very much appreciate it, I'm currently a little (haha...) desperate... Please solve it step by step so that I can understand it. Thank you very much!

I've hit an impasse in my science career. At first I went into a Biology major as an undergrad for medical school. However, seeing that I had a knack for scientific concepts and often set the curve for numerous classes in my major, I decided to look more seriously into research. My first few research stints were on a volunteer basis, for class credit, or for an undergrad senior thesis. They all turned out well, where I obtained references and poster presentations. The skills I developed eventually landed me a prestigious research fellowship right out of finishing a Master's degree in biomedicine. Sadly, the lab I entered for my fellowship disintegrated, and I was ush…

so, ive been wondering how to do stuff with coils, specifically what source do I put on a coil. I know that a copper coil has 2 ends, do I put positive or negative on one end as its source? Are there any electrical stuff besides positive and negative? Why are some youtube vids use amplifiers on coils? How do I change electrical frequency just how I see it in videos, they use a tiny circuit board with a dial and a small screen?

My dealership insists on putting nitrogen in the tyres when fitted new, but I wonder if there are consequences from doing this. My theory goes like this: The tyres are fitted and filled with Nitrogen to 22PSI, the left (L) tyre goes down a little so I top it up with the compressor. I now have two tyres with different gasses inflating them, and hence have different rates of expansion. As the tyre heats up the (R) gets to X PSI, where as the (L) gets to a higher pressure becuase of the different effects of heat oin he Nitorgen/Air mixture Over time the and on a hot day the (L) Tyre would have say 50% nitrogen and 50% atmosphere/air would get to a hgher pressure…

Hello, I'm new here. I just bought 2 hardshell luggage and a duffle and tote from delsey. When I got the luggage by mail there was a sentence in the warranty that states health risks from DEHP exposure governed by California proposition 65. I really like the luggage and a about to go on vacation but this sentence bummed me out and I'm concerned if I need to return them or not. I read all over the net and it appears this dehp is very common in a lot of products, and I couldn't understand if it's only dangerous if eating it, or if it's dangerous by breathing the air around it or even touching it and skin contact. The luggage was taken out of its b…

Hi there everyone. I'm currently in my second year of studying Biochemistry at university and was thinking of writing my third year dissertation on a particular toxin or poisonous substance, possibly examining it's mechanism of action in detail, maybe analysing possibility for therapeutic potential depending on the substance. I did a presentation on Bothrops Asper venom recently, and have been dabbling in toxicology since my first year. However, to get a start in formalising my education on this topic I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Ideally a fairly widely known textbook, and I don't mind dishing out some cash for one. Any websites or jour…

Hello! So, this is my first time posting here. I hope this is a valid question for this forum. I'm the president of an undergraduate Bio club at a university. We are trying to come up with ideas for a Halloween event and I got to thinking about bioluminescent bacteria. I have heard about an artist who used Vibrio fischeri to make bioluminescent paintings on an agar medium. My question is, could this be done on a pumpkin: Jack-o-lantern style? My idea is to (after hollowing and carving) create wells within the jack-o-lantern along the base of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Within the wells we will place an agar for growing Vibrio fischeri. we can also place an agar p…

Where are the best places (in the UK) to apply after finishing the masters degree? Is the NHS good for molecular scienctists? How is the money? And so on. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you

  17. Is there anywhere where I can take a 4 credit online, un-proctored physics course to have transfer back to my college? The equivalent of physics 1 (preferably algebra based)? I'm a double major in chemistry and biology and am required to take physics 1 and 2, which I would rather not take but have no choice. I am very terrible at math and the only reason I passed calculus 1 was because the professor allowed the exams to be open book, which the physics professor does not. I have dyscalculIa so it's extremely hard for me to do any math above basic arithmetic. I barely scraped by with a C in calculus and was like 1 point from a D, even though I have A's and B's in all m…

Hi all, my name is Carl and I have a science-mad 11 year old son! He likes school and all but he loves nothing more than going out, looking at wildlife, he appreciates plants and so on and they have introduced him to using the microscope at school recently to take a closer look at the cells and microstructures that make up living and inanimate matter. He says he doesn't get enough time on the microscopes at school, and would really love to have one at home and well I would love to buy him one to encourage his hobbies and so I have been looking around and wondering if you guys on this forum have any suggestion. There's one thing for certain, I'm not interested in…

  19. I've seen most green fire experiments that involve borax use methanol or ethanol. Is there any other alcohol that I can use? Also, will it make a difference to the fire if the alcohol is denatured? Fire is generally dangerous, but is there any type of fuel or alcohol that is safer to use than others?

How will you connect a cathode ray (5000v)(with a tube) to a chamber containing a type of gas such that the electrons in the tube moves into the chamber and the gas molecules do not enter the tube(thus disturbing the vacuum created.)

I am working on my bachelor degree diploma. I know that every part of university work should be scientific, but I am not good at math so well enough to make inventions or my own algorythms. Consequently, I have a question, is that allowed for a bachelor diploma to make it just like a review of invented methods? So that my work will be dedicated to some field, but the methods will be not mine, but presented as an analysis of existing algorythms? Will it be Ok for a bachelor?

  23. Ok so i am trying to create a schedule for university that allows for me to take as many classes as possible in the fields of Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Philosophy, and finally Art Studio while also taking as little time as possible to complete them. 25. Mid-life guy with money and time to spare needs post-doc/grad student to help me in mastering GR. No crack-pot "theories of everything", just rigorous guidance on advanced topics in General Relativity. I have already 2nd yr grad student fluency with the topic. Will pay good $$ for the right person. I live in NYC, so someone in NYC would be ideal, but would consider tele-connecting if need be. Please contact me ASAP to discuss! Thanks,
