If you're having a particularly bad day, what better than to have a rant about a celebrity you hate. Lets have no holding back here, it's completely understandable that there are some incredibly well paid people, who incite violent tendencies on even the strictest pacifist. I shall begin with my number one...I should actually sue this person for raising my blood pressure to critical levels every time I see her stupid mule like face, giving advice to a bunch of retards, because it takes a selection of Britains most idiotic to make her look vaguely intelligent. She seems to think if you speak in a posh middles class accent, it somehow equates you to a genius, OMFG, it d…

  2. Membrane theory and the decline of scientific method V.V. Matveev and D.N. Wheatley. "Fathers" and "sons" of theories in cell physiology: the membrane theory. Cell. Mol. Biol., 51(8): 797-801, 2005. Abstract. The last 50 years in the history of life sciences are remarkable for a new important feature that looks as a great threat for their future. Aprofound specialization dominating in quickly developing fields of science causes a crisis of the scientific method. The essence of the method is a unity of two elements, the experimental data and the theory that explains them. To us, "fathers" of science, classically, were the creators of new ideas and theories. They were …

Holy hell, I just payed $3.30/per gallon of gas on friday. I don't know about the rest of the country (US) but its risen almost $.70 over the last 3 weeks or so here in Connecticut, and at this rate it'll be $4 a gallon before we know it. Now for all the Europians out there remember that a large number of americans commute for more than an hour a day and tend to use up more gas than the average Europian.

At the top of my garden I have a small summer house which I use over the summer for barbeques, small gatherings and sleeping in if its warm enough. However everytime I have people round, the inevitable happens and candles get knocked onto the floor or cigarettes dropped which is a bit dangerous as I have a big fluffy carpet that catches alight really easily. I'm a bit paranoid about this as I can imagine one day the whole thing will go up in flames. Anyway I have been told about a fireproofing spray you can buy but I cant seem to find it anywhere, so I was wondering, do any of you know of any chemicals I could use to temporarily fireproof this carpet, or even bett…

We were playing with airsoft guns around town tonight. We went to the park looking for my brother and Christina. Apparently, my brother thinks he owns the park and he and whoever he wants are the only people allowed there. He got in my face and threatened to beat us up. He knows that I'm not scared of him, so he threatened to have someone else beat us up. He saw that I still wasn't scared, so he called the cops and said we were shooting people with pellet guns and we had a victim under the bridge. Before he calls the cops, we start to leave. Bill has to go to the bathroom, so he does and the rest of us get out of the car and play with the guns some more. The cops sho…

Lady of Pain, we adore you! (beheads accordion player) I thought it would be nice to start a thread so everyone can give you virtual gifts! Here's mine: a really cool leather Vertical Top Zip Backpack/Shoulder Bag for school. It features many cool compartments for books, supplies, handcuffs, lunch and a laptop, plus it's got a weighted bottom for swinging at the heads of inferior classmates who question the theory of evolution and a special zip-line garotte pulls right out of the shoulder strap to strangle students who's too-high hairdos block your view of cute professors.

I just noticed it's also 5614's birthday! My virtual gift to you is a 100GHz voive-activated wristwatch computer with a 500TB hard-drive, 10GB RAM, a retinal laser display, and a wireless satellite uplink (with extra monthly international long-distance minutes!). It only weighs 3 ounces but the user manual will need to be lifted into your backyard by crane!

I am glad I found this forum there seems to be some knowledgeable people here that could help me out. Amazon and search engines have not rendered what I am looking for. I need a collection of books or book that are/is designed for people with a basic knowledge of science (10-12 grade level) who want to learn more about Chemistry / Physics / Biology. Something that will describe the basics then allow my areas of interest that are birthed to continue into more detailed books. I was a good student in high school and am looking for a refresher so I can continue learning on my own. I will need it to be self study (not a text book) aimed at adult learners. To satisfy my i…

  15. Started by In My Memory,

I've been in the process of tracking down a geneology of my family, because for the most part no one really knows where my family came from. Heres what I've learned so far: Back a long long time ago, my ancestors were Hungarians who immigrated to England, who later immigrated to Canada, who came down to the United States. My surname is anglicanized French, but my ancestors surnames were Slavic, so the surname seems to be a fairly recent (within 2 or 3 generations) origin. I havent discovered any notably famous people in my ancestory, nor any famous soldiers (lousy Canadians never fought for their freedom), nor any famous inventors. My sisters claim that are family…

Have you ever been in a crowded place and felt like you were the only person around? When I'm surrounded by people that I don't know, it sometimes feels like I'm looking at them from so far away. It almost seems like they aren't part of my world. It seems like they can't see me, and like they don't know I'm there. It's like they are part of a world that I'm not. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I always feel so disconnected from people that I don't know. When I'm in a restaurant, shopping mall, public park, or any other public place, I feel like I'm disconnected from everyone. When I'm in school, I feel disconnected from everyone except for the few people …

Time to get a new mp3 player and I can't quite make my mind up. I will be going for the 30GB version of whichever. I think what I don't like about the iPod is that it doesn't support as many formats for films and doesn't support wma music either. People say it's easy to convert file types though. Also the iPod battery life is only 2hrs for films. So if I watched an episode of The OC then I'd already be on half battery. But then again I just do prefer iPods generally and I really love how thin the 30GB one is. Which one should I get? Any other points or helpful comments from anyone is welcome...

  23. I believe it is unjust for people to pay money to read scholarly articles in a journal, such as Nature. Does anyone know of a website that gives detailed scientific articles that are in similarity to the ones presented in Nature? In other words, people publish articles and some of the articles go to Nature; I'm sure that these articles are somewhere in the Library of Congress, where people can access it; however, such a task is time consuming and oft comes with little result. Where else could a person go to obtain such articles freely? I'm looking for database, that does not require pay, with a collection of these publications; I'm sure one must exist. Mu…

When you could be so much more. A long time ago I came to realize our flaw is being human. We humans should focus on enhancing ourselves beyond what we are. The realm of science exist for that very reason but yet people rather be trapped in their pool of ignorance. I see no purpose for those that limit themselves and others. Not even God has the right to limit self aware beings.

  25. Charles Darwin: None. But if it could be shown that the bulb entered the socket without a series of clockwise turns, my theory would absolutely break down. ACLU: None! We have separation of church and state in this country. Eugenie Scott: None. To say a Darwinist did it is not a scientific explanation. Panda’s Thumb: None. To say that light bulbs don’t screw themselves in is not a testable proposition. You can’t prove they don’t. That would be an argument from incredulity. You are committing a ‘Darwinist Of The Gaps’ fallacy. Carl Sagan: None. Time and chance are sufficient. Eventually it is inevitable that the bulb will be in the socket. Say, in a billion…
