  3. A fairly self explanatory title, give a few reasons why your home town is just plain awesome. Here's mine (other residents, please add): The south-east (and the south, and the east) of England --- and why it is the best place on Earth Naturally the first part of Southern England that comes to mind is London, the ultimate market town. As Rome was built as a millitary strong-hold, London was built as a shopping district and so it still remains. There are many equally sized cities that don't have anything like the amount of market places, and that is market places as in people at stalls, selling stuff, outside. Every market place has it's own awesome atmospher…

hey every1~! Over the summer I am kind of free and was wondering to get my hands dirty on a musical instrument. I like all kind of music, and all kinds of instruments... But I want to choose one instrument that is easier to learn... I am thinking about guitar.... but I am not sure whether it'd take me a lot of time.... What instrument do you recommend and why?

  7. Whose more likely to take over the world, YT, or Azure Phoenix. If you'd like to add yourself into the group of people who will take over the world, please feel free to do so. Azure phoenix has the, "I'm cute, and sweet, and attractive, and I'd never hurt anybody" thing going for her, so people would be much, much less suspecting, they would be like, "Ahhh, a sweet little girl", right before she enslaves them all. Meanwhile, YT has an IQ of (I believe he posted this in the IQ thread) 193, so he could use his enormous cranial powers to outwit his opponents, and build an army of Tyrannical machines. Whose your money on?

One year ago today, suicide bombers attacked the London underground, killing and injuring many people. I figured a moment of silence is in order, to pay our respects to the dead.

Warning... this thread may contain spoilers. I just saw the movie yesterday, and I had to laugh at a shuttle being launched off a 747. Even if this is possible (is it?) the force required to launch the shuttle into space would be really great, so wouldnt it push the 747 backwards too much. They didn't show that at all in the movie though. Not to mention the amount of fuel it would take for a 747 to carry a space shuttle.

if using windows and trying to copy/paste long article names (i.e., with linebreaks) into a search box, the search-string terminates at the first line break. i.e., Hello, i am a scientific article. Smith J. copy/paste it, and you'll end up searching for "Hello, i am", which sucks. to fix, in firefox, type about:config into the address bar and hit return, copy/paste editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines into the address bar, right-click on the line that comes up, select change value, and set it to 2. now, you can paste multiple lines into the searchbox. The teminate-at-first-line-break behaviour bugged me so much, and I was so happy when i found t…

I am so tired of seeing dating web sites that claim you will find "happiness". They should be taken off the Internet because dating is completely pointless. There is absolutely no sense in deciding that you want a boyfriend or girlfriend and then go "looking" for one. You will never find true happiness by dating. You must wait until you find the perfect person. You should find somebody with a great personality, and somebody who will really care about you forever. You must find someone who cares about you for who you really are, not who you can pretend to be. I am a guy, but I must say that the way most guys treat their girlfriends is just awful. They often c…

I have an idea for an easily constructed weapon of mass destruction, which I was thinking about selling the tech to the U.S government. The advantage of this weapon, is it only kills life, and leaves everything else alone, and requires very, very little resources to operate. It could concievably be much more destructive than a nuclear bomb, in terms of the total death toll, but has no long term negative effects on the land where it is used(other than everything dying, which could be replenished by planting new seeds and stuff, and adding bacteria and what not). I feel ethical qualms about doing this however... I was thinking about getting into the business…

Does status matter in a relationship? People say love is blind but I don’t think this is the case! Most people prefer a partner who is in the same standard or better than them. What is your view?

Has anyone ever thought about how much anger and hate there is in the world? Although it may appear peaceful where you live, watching the news will probably show you how much hate there is in the world. Just think about it. There are some poor counties that are jealous of wealthy nations. Some people in these poor countries become so jealous and angry that they feel the need to attack the innocent civilians in the wealthy nations. Of course, the solution of the wealthy nations is to bomb and attack the people of the poor nations. It seems like the only way countries respond to violence is with more violence. If people are killed, the only solution our leaders can f…

Not my most technical post, but I just had to share this lovely pic I just took/made. It's my young Nepenthes bicalcarata, a carnivorous plant from the lowland jungles of Borneo. The 'fangs' are actually nectar gands that overhang the pitcher of fluid; insects come for the nectar, fall in, drown, and are digested. This pitcher is less than 2 inches tall; adult plants can have pitchers over 10" tall. I did a bit of photomanip, which I think makes it look really kickass, but nothing major; the plant really does look like that. Mokele

Ok, first off, this is just a post for help. I just recieved a linksys wireless-g broadband router, 2.4 ghz, 802.11g. I got the router for my laptop so I could have internet in my room without the wires. The laptop is a dell E1505 and has wifi internet access built in and works at the same frequency as the router. I hooked it up yesterday, installed the software on the desktop, it works as a router, however my laptop is not detecting any wireless network. Any ideas? The SSID name is the same on all pieces of equipment, I'm on the same channel, so I have no idea. I'm at a loss. Thankyou in advance for any help you give me.

Hey guys, haven't been around in a while I know. Been busy, graduation a few weeks ago. Went to the Notre Dame particle accelerator two weeks ago. Sick for a week, now work. Hah, barely had time for the internet. That is if anyone remembers me. Anyways, while at N.D. I picked up a HUGE amount of books, now I have this collection of atleast 11 physics books I need to get through before I start college at the end of august. But I was thinking, am I going to be overprepared, if that's even possible? I mean, I'm going through a massive physics problem book that has everything from simple mechanics to black hole and radiation calculations. I'm getting that whole thin…

What are all of your favourite comfort foods? By comfort food I mean something which is easy to make, usually unhealthy, you can eat at anytime of the day, and never get bored of. For me it has to be... 1) Baked beans (hot or cold depending how lazy you feel) with pesto, cheese, a bit of vinegar, some cut up processed ham, and copious amounts of cajun spice. or... 2) Pitta bread with tomato puree, chopped up garlic, HP sauce and cheddar cheese, all put under the grill. or... 3)The humble noodles and ketchup
