  1. I'm in highschool. Junior year. However, i'd like you all to look at this list of vocabulary words that we have to define for the current chapter of the book we're reading. Chapter 1 1. [sycamores] 2. (Recumbent) 3. [Wearily] 4. (Bindle) 5. (Morosely) 6. [Droned] 7. [Triumphantly] 8. (Pantomime) 9. [Contemplated] 10. (Brusquely) 11. (Imperiously) 12. [Whimpering] 13. [Elaborate] 14. [stake] 15. [Yammered] Words in brackets are words i've learned in 4th grade, words in parentheses are words that i've learned in 6th grade. Also, those words are for Of Mice and Men, a book i've read several times already. But not in 11th grade. Not in 10th, not in 9th …

MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Caltech (California Institute of Technology) have pulled off another amazing prank. Last year Caltech students went to MIT and handed out MIT-branded shirts to students visiting the campus with "MIT" on the front... on the back it said "because not everyone can go to Caltech"! This year MIT students got their revenge when 11 MIT students walked into Caltech and stole the 130 year old, 1.7 ton Fleming Cannon which normally sits in front of Caltech's Fleming undergrad house. The prank was perfectly timed as this is the week when prospective students visit college campuses across America. Security did initially stop…

So obviously this is a physical thing, but in science class I was always taught that matter is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes forms. So technically wouldn't everyone on earth be the same age?

I read, that you can use Vegetable Oil (they suggest that you do something like go to a Chinese Restaurant and ask for used oil) then using that rather than gasoline... http://www.mtv.com/thinkmtv/environment/renewable_fuel.jhtml ...does this work with all cars? So, can I just go to a restaurant, get the Vegetable Oil, then put it in my car? What are your thoughts?

Something I've noticed on these forums is that a lot of the really intelligent types would endorse meditation. Honestly, I haven't experimented with different types of mediation that much. One that I really get a lot from is Quaker meetings for worship, and as far as I'm aware it's the only way of mediating that involves a shared experience. Would anyone care to say what types of meditation you enjoy, why and how you learnt it?

  7. http://www.sas.org/tcs/weeklyIssues_2006/2006-04-07/feature1p/index.html I can't verify the authenticity of this, and the guy who wrote it may be biased. It's all his firsthand account with no corroboration, so whatever, reader beware, this may very well be BULLSHIT! But uhh, yeah, basically an anthropocentrism-hating biologist who thinks we're destroying the earth and the solution is to exterminate 90% of humanity via airbourne ebola. WTF?! The author claims he received a standing ovation after his speech. God bless Texas... Ed: Well, here's a little bit of 3rd party corroboration: http://www.zo.utexas.edu/courses/bio357/357evaluations.html

All you digg users have probably already seen this, but it's too funny to not post. This site is selling an at home laser eye surgery kit, advertising it as easy and safe. I found the "4 easy steps" image hillarious. But, once you buy it, would you use it again? Probably not, but it would certainly be fun to point at other things other than your eye.

This is a feel-good-about-yourself thread, and maybe even a brag-and-gloat-and-be-better-than-everyone thread Share with everyone what you really like about yourself, and why its just the best thing in the world to be you. I'll go first: It probably comes to no surprise to anyone that I'm incredibly vain and feminine, but thats one of the thing I really like about myself. Theres nothing better than the feeling of being very girly and feminine, its the best! I mention this because I got a comment from someone today who said "I dont think I've ever seen you wear pants", which is true because I dont ever wear pants because they make me feel too masculine (and …

I've become addicted to science podcasts recently and I was here at my computer minding my own business when this weird little story came up on this podcast for Quirks and Quarks. It has to do with a dog-like animal found in, I think, Vietnam, that excretes calcium carbonate and has a gland that secretes calcium hydroxide. This story is so bizarre I don't know if it's an April Fools joke or what. I'd give you a summary but I don't know if it will ruin it for you or really if it matters because I have no idea whether this is for real or not. Please listen and tell me what you think. Here is the link to the podcast in segmenthttp://www.cbc.ca/quirks/quirks.xml whe…

I get this error on my TV. I think it's a v-chip thing but I don't know how it would have got set. I think it changed itself cause it was working like 3 hours ago. Maybe I sat on the remote or the TV got struck by lightning. I dont know. But now, it doesn't work. My parrents definitely did not put parrental blocking on it -- but this is a v-chip message, isn't it? How do you fix the TV?

If you're a right-handed person, is it possible to efficiently teach yourself to write with your left hand (or vice-versa), or is this hard-wired into our brains at birth? I'm curious about teaching myself writing with my left hand as a side-hobby.

Fractals are my current topic of interest so I decided to post another thread about then but this time ets see if we can have some fun. Here is how it works, someone posts a link and then we debate what it looks most like. these don't have to be your ow images but can be from the inernet or what ever you like. So I'll start, this looks like 3 DNA strings joining into one. Agree / disagre? Cheers, Ryan Jones

Howdy, my name is Maddi. I’m a middle-ager and I’ve come to re-learn. I just ‘got by’ in school long time ago, and I know it might be a bit late now, for self-paced education, but I want to give it a try. I thought forums would be a good way to go this time. I’m married with 2 kid’s.

A couple of weeks ago I was pretty ill, constant vomiting, diarrhea et.c Lots to do at work, so I went back feeling dreadful...on the way back from work I got a phone call from my Dad, that my Mum had been rushed to hospital and it was very serious (life threatening serious) I then walked into my house to find a letter from the bailiffs...on top of this because I was ill (a week behind on my course), I had to get an assignment in the next day. So I was up until the early hours writing an essay, doing equations what have you, then had to go back to work the next day. In the morning I posted my assignment (I passed...woohoo) got a phone call that my Mum was in the clea…
