Seen any good sculptures made from almonds lately? Note: no other nut-based sculptures may be discussed under threat of the ban-hammer!

So, I'm going to University in a bit. I think I'll handle it okay. One of the hardest things to live without (besides money) I suspect will be my families cooking. I was wondering if any of you guys had any advice/resources/recipes that you'd like to share for fellow scientists-on-a-budget? So far I've found Student Recipes.com which is well, varied to say the least. I'm a little apprehensive about taking advice from a site where one of the contributors considers this to be a full meal. Also, since odds are I wont be able to afford locally farmed free range meat any longer, I welcome any advice on cooking vegetarian stuff.

My father is an addicted person. He lives only for his alcohol; he doesn’t have any goal in his life apart from drinking. Mum is worried for him coz sometimes he becomes violent when he drinks a lot. He refused bluntly to go to a counselor or even to take medication to be alcohol-free. He says that he is living a good life with his bottle. But me and my mother, we are able to do anything to make dad quit alcohol. I’ve heard of a medication called campral which I used in the treatment of alcoholism along with counseling. Dad will not be ready to go to a counselor. Do you think the medication will be effective if we put it in his food?? Can campral be taken in food?? Can an…

I am conducting an international online questionnaire that examines drug use (including alcohol), mood and different party environments in people from Australia and overseas. The questionnaire is open to anyone over 18 years of age, is completely confidential and anonymous (there is no way to trace anyone's answers back to them). Your participation would be greatly appreciated. This project is being completed as part of my undergraduate university degree so go easy on any negative comments you might have... until I graduate from NNPTC. I just have the final exams for my second half courses and the comprehensive examination left. I've been even more apathetic than ever, so my grades have been slipping. I am now down to a 3.58 GPA overall. I start NPTU in NY on the 1st of October.

[FONT="Garamond"]Well I would like to ask this question to all the people who live and study in the UK. You see,i am applying for an undergraduate chemistry course at the University of Oxford and ofcourse since I am from Pakistan, I will be considered an 'oversea' student. Now, have u lot looked at the fee structure for local 'home' students to that of an oversea 'international' student? The home fee is somewhere between 3000 to 3300 quids while for oversea students it is roughly 9000 pounds and that excludes living cost. Now do u ppl think this is fair. if u want to attract oversea students to come and study in the Uk would u not have a different policy. And if any1 here…

Has anyone read about this scandal? Not a "diehard" fan of the Patriots but I have always liked Brady and company. I really liked their "team" attitude and discipline - they emulated class and professionalism to me. This really tarnishes that image and makes me wonder how much of their previous success could be attributed to this video taping of defensive, and perhaps even offensive signals. I'd say at the very least, now that everybody's watching, the rest of this season could prove vindication or guilt.

Can you imagine wireless energy. I am a devoted follower of Tesla and his mad scientist approach to electricity. The man was absolutely a genius and his invention never came to light. Well, until august 17 2007 when a light bulb was remotely ,7 feet away, illuminated by witricity. Witricity is Wireless electricity and the distance though only 7 feet was successful.Time will see greater distances and advances in remote electricity. Tesla claimed to be able to remotely wirelessly light a field of lightbulbs 15 miles from the generator! How great a feat is that. The man was proven to be a genius by many of his theories come reality for instance alternating current. Thoug…

Okay, before anyone jumps the gun I have no idea what it was I observed. At first it moved across the sky like a human made satellite, but as I watched it such began to accelerate. In what was fractions of time really, maybe close to two seconds it, the dot, had become something of a line. This line did a few zig zags before it was gone, the trail did not seem to last very long either. So any input would be nice, as I have no idea what it is I observed.

I need to know if high schools normally have high voltage caps around that they're willing to give away for free and I need to know where they can be found like the art rooms, the wood shop room, etc.

What is your take on this issue, regarding the disparity of social and economic status (wealth) versus academic qualifications, knowledge and intelligence - in life, in general? In other words, is socialeconomic status, in general, inversely proportional to education? In particular of course, the sector of the academia relating to the sciences and technical sectors (e.g. scientists & engineering related jobs). For example, highly educated and quite possibly significantly more intelligent (dependent on personal definition thereof) PhDs dont earn nearly as much money, as compared to a much less educated and quite possibly less intelligent (in the scientific, literar…

Probably a lot of you have seen this before, but I thought it was cool. It's "content-aware image sizing," and it makes it ridiculously easy to edit images in all kinds of crazy ways. And the video is narrated by Kermit the Frog, apparently!

Ok, I'm straight up scared of wasps. I will knock women and children out of the way to get away from them. I really feel they come from hell. To make a long story shorter, I completely flipped out at the site of a wasp in my room...my music/computer room. I ran, obviously, and armored up with a long sleeved hoodie and wasp killer. So, here I am crouching in my ninja-wasp-killer stance, searching the room with my Hot Shot brand 27 foot jet spray wasp killer...and I can't find him. I'm in the throes of fight-or-flight creeping around the room, where every little noise or flicker of light, initially anyway, is a yellow jacket going straight for my jugular - and I …

I've just been watching Enemies of Reason by Richard Dawkins. I want to talk about something that I have seen quite a bit of. There seems to be many people turning towards atheism and I suspect they are doing it not because of any deep thought about the topic but for the same reason that many people turn to religion, i.e. identity, image, belonging, and authority. In his documentary Enemies of Reason, Dawkins loves to go on about a war between reason and superstition. Creating in viewers' heads the idea of a war creates a distinction between good and evil. The next step is to characterize the good and the evil. Dawkins loves to talk to really bizarre psychics and peop…
