Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm thankful my computer works well and lets me reach out to people around the world. I'm very thankful I don't have to feed you all today (but please stop by for some pie).

Because morality is a critical factor in how we live our life and how we choose our laws, it may be useful to get a scientist's opinion on it. Indeed, there are few things more important than how you decide what ought and ought not be done. Also, if you've changed your mind on where you get your morality, it may be interesting to hear about. If you act against your morals, it would also be interesting to know why you might do that. --- Oops! Somehow the last part of the poll question got eaten. It should have said: Where do you get your morality from? That is, how do you decide what ought to be done?

Typically, the most potential Regulatory affairs candidates are senior, industry-seasoned professionals who can chart a successful regulatory strategy for the organization in question. Such a person will have firsthand knowledge of what strategies work or do not work, will probably have good government agency contacts at this stage of his career and will be able to provide mentoring capabilities for the less-seasoned staff members. The typical profile is for someone with a Ph.D. and, depending on the level of the position – manager, director, etc - anywhere from 5 years to 15 years of related industrial experience. Younger candidates like science-major undergraduates…

Now not to be taken to lightly but in all reality I think if you could produce pills that over time allowed a person to have a natural body odor of choice you would become a very very rich person overnight really. Anyone else agree or disagree and in reality what do you think the limits of action will be on the understanding and ability to manipulate a humans biochemistry?

Hello everyone! I've been lurking on SFN for a few months now and finally decided to create an account. I'm a graduate student at the University of Iowa in Molecular Biology and have a pretty diverse set of interests. I am looking for a little help from this community though. I have been working on a web project for the past two years and I need some feedback from my target audience. It's basically a myspace/FARK hybrid for the scientific community. Please stop by and leave me some feedback. http://www.labspaces.net

I notice recently that there is a frightening new trend in some young people who are adopting twisted Social-Darwinist ideas or even Nazism. Actually, it is even more distorted and sinister than the former Social-Darwinism and mixes with a warped Nietzscherian phylosophy . They got this distorted notion that “Natural Selection” is about going on rampage killing people based on some ill personal criteria or at random because they consider themselves “superior” to the majority and hate them. However these people have no real knowledge about the modern Neo-Darwinian Theory of Evolution or how natural selection really works. Recently, a young man from Finland wen…

I'm looking for old-time (1930s-1950s) radio shows about either robots from space or robot killers, or something along those lines. Needs to be a radio show though. Just curious if anyone knows any off the top of their head. So far all I've been able to find is a story called "The Robot Killer" from an old sci-fi radio show titled "2000 plus".

http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/18615.asp A comparison of terrestrial human brain with that of extraterrestrial type V brain manifests a million year gap in technology and sophistication Of course, everything in it is completely unfounded and purely speculative, but it makes the news in India Technology. I would venture to say that, surely, there are a good number of civilizations living in the universe, given all of the finite variables and conditions. However, when they start talking about evolving into hyperspace and so forth, I have had a hard time accepting that these types of technology could ever come true. What is Zero Point Energy?

The end of freedom I am shackled hand and foot spread eagle on the floor of my cell. I ask my jailer everyday to set me free. Finally he compassionately sets me free. For days I am exhilarated with the ability to freely pace about my cell. After a few weeks I begin to beg my jailer to set me free. After weeks he, being a compassionate man, sets me free from my cell. For days I am exhilarated at the freedom to wonder about and speak with other inmates. After several weeks I begin to beg my jailer to free me and finally he relents and releases me from jail. I am overwhelmed with the sense of freedom until I, overcome with hunger and basic needs, seek some…

I would say yes, it is. Each human being learns in a slightly different way (some more than slightly), yet each and every last one of them are channeled through the same academic system. For me, the proof is in the way I learn, which is not exactly the norm. Perhaps I am ADD, or perhaps I am simply an introvert, but I do not learn well in typical classroom settings with homework and papers and the like. Yet I have been forced to go through this system for nearly two decades (from the moment I first entered a classroom when I was four). I learn by reading, then by letting it settle in my brain for a while, then reading some more, and perhaps drawing visual…

Why I don't believe in God: Religion is ignorance, it is just a bunch of B.S. that people believe because some man said there was a god 2000 years ago. People thought the world was flat 2000 years ago also, so if I go sail the oceans will I fall off the earth at some point? I think not. When I was little people told me there was a Santa, but as I grew older due to common sense I knew he was not real, same with god, common sense, he(or her, or whatever people believe it is) is not real. What proof do we have that there is a god? Ok some people claim they have seen god, people also claim they have seen the boogy man, the loch ness monster, the Easter bunny, and one I s…

Some of you new guys don't know how to use some of the tags(or that some even exist), so I'll start off explaining a few. Feel free to add more if I forgot any. One of the most used tags is the quote tag. The quote tag, like all of them, have opening brackets and closing brackets. The quote tag begins with Another one of the most used is the hyperlink tag. without the space(and, no, you don't use the <> signs) then type the words you want to be the link. To close this tag, type [/url ] without the space. Example: SFN Perhaps the most obvious is the image tag. Open the tag with without the space. Example: Common in the physics and mat…

Where does philosophy come from? Western philosophy emerged in the sixth century BC along the Ionian coast. A small group of scientist-philosophers began writing about their attempts to develop “rational” accounts regarding human experience. These early Pre-Socratic thinkers thought that they were dealing with fundamental elements of nature. It is natural for humans to seek knowledge. In the “Metaphysics” Aristotle wrote “All men by nature desire to know”. The attempt to seek knowledge presupposes that the world unfolds in a systematic pattern and that we can gain knowledge of that unfolding. Cognitive science identifies several ideas that seem to come n…

Hey guys, In the spirit of the writer I am attempting to be (and the story I am desperately attempting to write 'realistically', as much as I can), I am looking for Scientific discoveries that were used for the not-intended and *bad* use. Example: Atomic energy --> could bring to a new age in energy production, but --> used as atomic bomb. Any more examples? Please... I've been looking up online, and couldn't find anything (I am not sure *what* to look for, actually).. It would be great great help. And a nice discussion, too, potentially Thanks! ~moo
