Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Since this is the speculation section I would like to share my idea/ belief of all of existence. I believe that you can go forever in forever out forever up forever down and forever in every direction of existence. I think each of these levels have infinite levels in themselves such as spacetime is part of creation and creation is one of the action of God that dispays one specific attribute of God and so on infinitely I think that conscienceness is also a part of creation at the same level as spacetime which consists of universes/each individual sentient being. I am Catholic and believe that everything is a result of God who is an infinitely good powerful knowledgable and…

A picture in that article shows Nevada's Crescent Dunes concentrating solar system that generates 110 Megawatts and stores heat for overnight generation. It appears the mirrored area has been meticulously prepared; moreover, there might be a design that minimizes money spent for site preparation. It requires a swarm of mirrors on a cart with three independently steered wheels. The cart can point the mirror in any direction around the compass; thus, the mirror must position angular elevation. The site must be cleared of trees and brush, should be relatively flat and mowed. Parts for the carts may be 3D printed and assembled by robot. The mirrors may be covered in gr…

I've been looking into various brain scanners and there hasn't been one where it shows the brain at a molecular scale. I want a brain scanner that can perceive the flow of sodium and potassium in the brain as well as possibly all the neuronal synapses. I am not sure if such an invention is held back by ethical reasons, but right by all means it should be non invasive. MRI's scale is too big and you need an extremely powerful magnetic field to top that. PET scan requires you to dye the subject. My bet is on femtosecond and attosecond laser, but even then they require some fine tuning. Anyone got any idea on when a scanner of such a scale would be developed?

Greetings, I would like to see what people think in relation to Artificial Intelligence. More so, to help me have a better understanding on why some big name people in the technology industry (e.g. William Gates) actually fear true AI being developed and used. What is there to fear? What do you actually think would happen if man-kind developed true AI and let it have access to the internet? If you think it would go crazy and decide to hurt humans in some way or destroy all our data then please explain why you think this. Wouldn't the concept of "taking over" or wanting to harm other life-forms just be a human thought process and not even be a relev…

I need an efficient way to calculate 2 to the power of N possibilities. The number N would be something like 1100, where there are 1100 bits (one thousand and one hundred bits), so that makes it 2^1100 possibilities. I want to design a program that would allow me to loop through every single possibilities, unfortunately 2^1100 is too big of a number. So, how should I go about tackling this problem from a mathmatical, statistical point of view?

a chemical reaction might release 10 ev of energy. a nuclear reaction releases millions of times that. we are told that that is because the nuclear force is much stronger. At first that seems to make perfect sense but upon closer inspection the numbers clearly dont work out. The strong force is only 100 times as strong as electromagnetism and it only acts over a very short distance (about the size of the nucleus or 1/10,000 of an angstrom) now energy = force * distance so 100 * (1/10,000) = 0.01 even though the force is stronger it should release much less energy.

i have a theory about the universe, and i am a philosopher, but i will explain the tehory about in the best way possible. Tesla said that the ETHER, is in the most natural form. Is elastic, and extended in any forms. Tesla proposed that gravity is a field effect. The light is divided and sometimes extender and reduced, but the ways in the universe are two types one positive and one negative. The eact constant is equal to 8.333361196544 times in a exact form. The sun is the center of the universe. And the universe is an effect of light orr light effect.

So from my previous post I've mentioned about how human brain should be able to be decoded into known functions. What I am doing here is to make a comparison between computers and the human brain. Bear with me for a second. So I came across this video. I know it's overused in various places, but the first part where the cover is lifted shows the circuitry of the CPU at run time, and I followed the site to the actual javascript simulation here. The right side shows how this model reads data and instructions from memory. Now this is purely from the hardware perspective. Here I present a portal from Blue Brain Project in showing how neurons run different data. So here you se…

I had an idea why the stuff of an empty vacuum are made of energy. In 1948 Dutch physicist Hendrik Casimir predicted virtual particles would pop in and out of existence in an empty vacuum and move objects in the real world. In 1997 Steve Lamoreaux confirmed the prediction. Lamoreaux measured an attractive force in a complete vacuum between two metal plates. The experiment confirmed that an empty vacuum is not empty. The stuff of an empty vacuum are made of energy and virtual particles. I had an idea why the stuff of an empty vacuum are made of energy. The geometrical nature of a vacuum suggests curvature. The equation to measure partial curvature, s…

Is the moon not always visible from someplace where it's night? I pointed out in another thread, that although the moon is quite often visible during the day, it must also be visible at one and the same time, from someplace dark, which should correspond to some ancient accounts. And probably, the moon goes where it's light is needed most--perhaps having to do with the sunlight being more obscured or less. I would further guess that the position and corresponding fullness of the moon would be placed in a way optimizing the light for those regions of the earth during their night times.

I need to set a single ground rule here, since this is an entirely theoretical question (until we get to the point of technology to prove otherwise) The ground rule is simply how we are (theoretically) controlled through some form of life-force (like a soul, typically mentioned in religious belief). If someone can prove me entirely wrong on this ground rule, please mention it to me. With that said, if we were able to control a small part of our brains using that life force and only such, what would happen if we were able to control our entire brain? Of course, my belief is that we are incapable of controlling our brain due to some external force preventing us, pe…

Black Holes create Space-Time hypothesis. I have very little knowledge of actual physics and mathematics, but I would like to throw this out there to see if there's any potential validity behind it and to get some feedback, and get it into a community that might be able to do something with it. If the universe is expanding in every direction, and galaxies are seemingly moving away from each other as well, is it possible that the black holes in the center of galaxies create Space-Time? If they do, would it be also be viable to observe several black holes over the course of several years, document the distance relationships between them, and see if there is in f…

I have my own personal theory of physics and the nature of our reality. This isn't meant to be taken too seriously, just some concepts I've been tossing around. Enjoy! ~A Physics defines the spatial dimensions as a point, then a line, then flatland, then our reality, to the 4th dimension (time), etc etc. Scientists clearly state that physics as we know it only exists in the third dimension. Why do we keep looking for answers in dimensions we can't describe? The Illuminati. Kidding. Just making sure you are paying attention. This is physics lore, and lore can be stiff and hard to follow if there aren't a few jokes. But I digress: So these nerds think they can explain ou…

What if Venus was in the goldilock zone at one time and gravity has slowly pulled it out of the goldilock zone, What if that is the future of the planet earth, to be slowly tugged on and pulled out of the goldilocks zone of our star, and as earth is pulled out mars is pulled in? Just speculative thinking.

What might the Universe be like in a fictional reality where gravity was repulsive instead of attractive at subatomic distances? I'd assume it wouldn't make much difference to the average atom or molecule as the masses involved would be too small for gravity to have an effect either attractive or repulsive? However, I did wonder what the behaviour of black holes might be like in this hypothetical scenario. Attractive at regular, human-experience distances and repulsive at the subatomic and Planck scales. Would the mass reach a stable equilibrium between the attractive and repulsive, would the black hole explode once the singularity reached a critical thresho…

So, I want information or algorithm on brain plasticity simulation. My guess is it is related to short term memory because you are constantly changing the shape of the brain based on your observation of the environment. Since the brain does not store information like a hard drive with 0 and 1 bit, the brain stores memory by making connections with adjacent neurons. So my guess is your observation of the surroundings is stored through brain plasticity by changing the shape of the brain through making connections. That's how I am able to remember the things I see. For instance, I see a bird, my brain does not store it as 0 and 1s but rather stored through neuron making conn…

I've already stated this in my other topic and am still speculating how this really makes sense. Thus a universe is finite and beyond the edge of a universe there will be no space pockets to contain matter until the next lump of space viz a viz another universe.

wow that is interesting. ill admit that i never really had true interest in science or spirituality, until now. i been dabbling in the field of astral projection ever since i had this one out of body experience not to long ago. i know some of you think that astral projection is just a myth or something, but let me tell you that im 100% sure that astral projection is truly a real thing. the reason i bring this subject up is because i believe it is related to what dr.michio kaku was saying, ill explain, starting with my own personal experiences. when i astral project, i can materialize my thoughts. My thoughts become real, they gain physical, solid properties.this can b…

The Michelson/Morley experiment has three solutions. Einstein picked his special relativity solution which matched the instrument. It worked very well because his solution is a root mean square answer which is excellent for circular motions such as a clock spinning around the Earth. The alternative solution would be a Doppler Solution in which the geometric mean of the Doppler is identical with the Einstieinian solution. Thus the instrument can shrink in the forward direction toward the sun and expand in the rearward direction. The result is the geometric mean on of the two answers is the same as Einsteins equations. People have been arguing over these two solutions …

I have a brilliant idea: We can use lasers to transport energy instead of electricity. All we need are two fiber optic cables: The first to transport continuous laser light from the origin to the destination, and the second to transport information, such as from TV stations. If we develop optical computers, we wouldn't have to change the light into electricity.

Speed of light is constant therefore we can use 'dx' of light instead of time. For example: p=m*dxlight*dx/(dxlight2-dx2)1/2

I've come across an interesting hypothesis regarding the earth's composition, specifically that it's core does not consist of iron, but of hydrogen and is not hot, but cold. Unlike hypothesis like hollow earth, this one seems to fit with known facts like the earth's magnetic field (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_hydrogen). Sadly, I've only been able to find one author that has written specifically about the subject (he's called Neil B. Christianson). Does anyone know of other works regarding the subject than his? Some stuff that he has written about this hypothesis can be found at the bottom of http://www.cthisspace.com/ftl/features.html. He states that …

No. It's not "infinitely complex" because there is no such thing as "infinity" in the real world. It's far more complex than "infinitely complex" anyway. The odds of any given event occuring are effectively less than the reciprocal of infinity. If you ever think they are greater than you're looking at too large a scale or too short a time frame. Maybe I'll just log back out again for a few months now.

Wheeler wanted to reduce physics to geometry in an even more fundamental way than the ADM reformulation of general relativity with a dynamic geometry whose **curvature changes with time. ** Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometrodynamics If there is a way to verify that curvature is a reality, then we may have laid the first piece of evidence for Wheeler's Quantum Geometrodynamics.
