Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. Most of us believe that we live on a peaceful planet, where only disasters on a local scale occur. However, history knows of cases of global catastrophes that annihilated a large part of the human population and led to a deep collapse of civilization. One example is the medieval Black Death pandemic. In the 14th century, the plague killed half of Europe's population, but also wreaked havoc on other continents. Entire families were dying together. There were not enough living to bury all the dead. For the chroniclers, the plague was devastation more final than Noah's Flood. So many died that everyone believed it was the end of the world. Contemporary scientists and wi…

A Brief and Definitive Analysis of Time By Addison Apology The study of time does not require an expensive laboratory or a PhD. Duration is something that all sentient beings share and for the most part take for granted. Few have given it much thought and those who have, generally, have left the subject in more of a muddle than not. Unfortunately, since Einstein, there has been a growing trend to believe that time is a fundamental ingredient of the universe like matter and space. So, it has become fashionable to glibly talk about spacetime. I personally do not find this paste up word edifying. In fact, it is confusing and meaningless. Definition …

This (thread) is (about) a (syntax(_bias)) complaint. There are several kinds of KE; but only 1 is acknowledged. What does it mean to set the Kinetic_Energy(_difference)'s (KEd=m*(vf2-vi2)/2) initial_speed vi=0 to zero? KEd=m*(vf2-0)/2. (?) (I mean..) If the Kinetic_Energy(_difference) KEd=(m*vf2/2)-(m*vi2/2) is the 1st term, the final_kinetic_energy KEf=m*vf2/2 minus the 2nd term, the initial_kinetic_energy KEi=m*vi2/2 as, KEd=KEf-KEi & the initial_kinetic_energy KEi=m*02/2=0 is (assumed) zero, then we can only have the final_Kinetic_Energy KEf=KEi+KEd KEf=0+KEd …

Realizing the conscience world. Now that the 2022 Nobel prize winners seemingly proved there is an abstract or alternate reality due to quantum mechanics, what grounds us in our version of reality? When observing the particles in the slit experiment, they seem to stay in line, yet when not observing they adapt a wave function. It's not so much observing them as it is becoming aware or conscience of them. It's not a function of our eyes but of our brains. In studying Sopolsky,(Robert Sapolsky, American researcher), we know that babies are born with latent imprints in their brains that allow them to learn a language, to age and eventually die from aging, among other imprint…

  7. I examined the apparatus closely. It was a blend between a capacitor and a magnet that ran on electricity. "What's the purpose of this capacitor?" I said. This capacitor has the power to levitate," said Swansont quietly. "you mean, like a levitating shaoulin monk?" I said, curiously. "Yes, that's right," said Swansont boredly. "How does it work?" I said. Swansont began to explain. "The capacitor is powered by the force of gravity," he said. When the force of gravity is powered by the electromagnetic field, it causes a disutrbance in the gravity continuum, the field of gravity that encompasses time and space," said Swansont. "…

  8. Is antimatter the answer? I vaguely grope at terms like antimatter, the big bang theory the matrix and parallel dimensions, as I try to find a way to build a time machine. Certainly factors like the light barrier, the theory of relativity, and quantum physics would play a role in the building of this hypothetical time machine But like Einstein came up with a formula for the traversing of the Time barrier, is it possible to come up with a technique, of hypothetical model for a time machine? Surely we can envision how to build certain parts of that time machine. And yet a lot of it's makeup would still be murky For example, "What you need to build t…

  9. First post here on scienceforums.net. My speculation is that the universe could be desribed by the infinitely unique path of a single piece of 'string'. Along the string path itself would be negatively charged, but loops of the path would create positive charge- much like in mathematics how subtracting a negative number is the same as adding the absolute value of the number. The overall charge value of positivity to negativity would remain at zero overall to stay balanced, as we find with the periodic table of elements. Negativity is repulsed by itself, as is positivity, but opposite charges are atttacted. It seems to me at the moment to be the most plausib…

  10. During quarantine, one of my purposes was to improve my knowledge about perpective. While I was working on it, I found something, a method that is able to convert information in 2D to linear perspective to perfection, but the most important, to viceversa too. I think that it's like if I had found how both languages are connected between them, the key to translate from one to another. And I am not sure why it works or what it represents, I just know it works. I called this method The Principle of Infinity. What I am going to expose next is the proof that it works, not how it does. You will have to wait for that for now. Let's get started…

Math, or better, numbers are embedded in the fabric of reality. Better yet, numbers are what makes the fabric of reality, as will be shown. By that it is meant that numbers are in effect representations of forces and their relationships. Moreover, numbers are also the best "language" system to also store and transmit information, which is an essential quality especially for complex systems such as living systems. It is becoming increasingly evident that information is the basis of the universe but especially of living systems. Physicist Paul Davies states: "Historically, matter has been at the bottom of the explanatory chain, and information has been a sort of s…

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the "frozen star" model of black holes provides a simple and obvious explanation for the fact that the entropy of a black hole is proportional to the BH's surface area? (the Bekenstein-Hawking formula) If the BH is frozen on the inside, then only a layer on the surface has any unrestrained degrees of freedom. There's no need for complicated hologram theories. (a) General relativity breaks down at the event horizon; (b) the vacuum inside the BH is incapacitated by some kind of stress associated with the gravitational potential, so nothing inside the event horizon can move*; and (c) the only source of entropy is the outer layer of matter …

  17. I have come up with the theory that there must be a positive and negative version for everything in the universe, and I feel like there is, as there is Dark energy, and Dark matter. Now this may be incorrect but that's what makes it a theory and I need input on it from my fellow scientists.

  18. The particles don't go through both slits but as a particle goes through one slit, its virtual antiparticle goes through the other. The predictions of this is that the particles form an interference pattern on a screen.

Why are all the theories of quantum mechanics formulated in terms of particles? I don't see any conclusive evidence for their existence. They seem like an artifact of classical thinking. Tiny little "objects" that no one can see. Even quantum field theory is based on a similar idea, that fields are inherently quantized, that quanta are "entities" of some kind, which requires "probability waves", with not even an attempt to explain more deeply what they might be based on. Max Planck started the quantum revolution with his theory of black-body radiation, and the whole physics community took that to mean that electromagnetic waves are quantized. But black-body radi…

Recent discussions in the thread https://www.scienceforums.net/topic/128407-the-nature-of-time/ have got me scratching my head again over the relationship between past-present-future in both the quantum and classical realms. My starting point is case 1 of Bohm's variant of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox in which Charlie at point C will operate a gadget to launch an entangled spin singlet along the x axis: an electron leftward towards Alice at point A and a positron towards Bob at point B. At some point Charlie will simultaneously release the pair and broadcast a light speed timing signal to alert Alice and Bob of when they should measure the z-spin of their resp…

Imagine you build a sort of "Dyson sphere", except there's nothing inside it yet, and instead of solar panels, it's a dense array of powerful linear particle accelerators, which are pointed inward and supplied with humongous amounts of electrons. Now suppose the accelerators start shooting electrons into the center, slowly at first, then faster and faster, in such huge quantities and at such high energies that the electrons get compressed and form a black hole. My question is, what effect would the high charge-to-mass ratio of the electrons and their electrostatic pressure have on the Hawking radiation coming from the black hole, on any other properties, or I gu…

  24. There must be something specific inside particles that determines if the Higgs field slows it down or not. Since some particles interacts more strongly with the Higgs field than others, there must be actual numbers in particles corresponding to the mass. I propose this mass is encoded by space points onto the mass circle of a particle.
