This happended to me once before then went away. Now its back. I rebooted and used "enditall" to close any applications but it still happens. I'll try to post later... Bettina Forbidden You don't have permission to access /forums/newreply.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. EDIT.....Well I tried several times more and gave up. This is a pretty wide ranging site but I can't help but notice there isn't really a general section for careers discussion. I know careers can be discussed in certain specific topic sections but I thought it would be handy if there was a general area for careers type chat and queries. What does anyone else think?

  3. It's evident that "Religion vs Athiesm" and Creation vs Evolution debates are beginning to run rampant on SFN, and although I am not directly opposed to these debates, I fear SFN is in a bit of danger of becoming known to the science forum community for the amount of topics with this debate becoming a footnote of their closed threads. Then again this could be said about almost every other science forum. But that's not really what I am concerned about. My concern is that this debate not only exists in the religion forum (where I believe it belongs, as it is not a debate about science, but about theology, as Creation has yet to be proven as science, and religion debates…

I made a comment in a recent thread about doing away with the religious side of the philosophy forum. It seems the main contention between members on here is sparked when talking about personal beliefs and or discussing religion in general...in fact some recent posts and threads (I'm not going to start name dropping) are just meaningless, and do not contribute to any form of healthy discussion at all...it's just a load of pot shots at individuals and organised religions. The problem is, it's from people who already know each other, know their beliefs and know exactly where they stand, but still the same tired arguments keep cropping up. There's plenty (and frank…

  5. Started by Genecks,

I'd really like some language boards: romance languages, Latin, and Asian languages, such as Japanese. From a scientific standpoint, Latin would be the very important one. "The limits of one's language is the limit of one's world and universe." Paraphrase of Ludwig Wittgenstein's thoughts on the limits of language. I understand various boards on the web exist for some Romance and Asian languages. But I don't see many for Latin. I have come across one board on a different forum. The forum didn't seem very active.

A semicolon (or period with capitalized H) and comma after (H/h)owever is required for proper English. These could be other versions: Public news posting is welcome. However, all posts are checked before they are approved. Public new posting is welcome; but all posts are checked before they are approved.

  7. It improves things IMO when SFN gets a lot of posts-per-day and also when the posts are high on my subjective quality scale----when they are INFORMED AND RATIONAL. And, in line with the SFN name of "Science Forums and Debate" I tend to think that it increases the energy at the board when there is a lot of informed and rational DISAGREEMENT. I don't like to argue myself (and am extremely bad at it) but I appreciate it when others engage------instead of placidly agreeing with each other all the time. It is entertaining, and it challenges people and brings out their best, to have the sparks fly now and then. Or so I think. ====================== So I was…

Can the SFN administrators extend the time it takes before your login session expires? Sometimes I will make a lengthy post, and it will take me a while to type it. It will take even longer if I'm doing research on another web site while I'm typing. Sometimes when I go to submit a new post, the session will expire and I will need to login again. Is there any way somebody can fix this?

I was trying to add a simple quote to my sig, and to keep one other quote but it was more than 250 characters total. Could we possibly get a small bump in sig size, say to 400 characters? I dont think this would be a huge deal and most would probobly not even use it. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

http://www.google.com/ig - there you can customize Google. (Yes, just like MyYahoo) There's a SFN gadget, but it doesn't work. Who's working on it? Is it on hiatus? EDIT: A gadget is a small piece of programming, a module like an rss feed that you can put on your homepage to stay informed on the latest news.

I was curious if you are looking for a new forum banner? I've had a hobbisis "fling" with imaging and PS for quite sometime. If your bored of it or want it upgraded I wouldn't mind giving a shot at it, and I am sure other would like to particpate as well. Problem is people have the tendency to use something that sucks because people spent time making something for them. I do not wish to make something and have it used out of guilt, therefore if I created something that sucks, I'd have no anger if you wouldn't use it. So if you agree and give perimeters, I/We make it and you judge type Idea, or whatever you like, if not, that's fine. I can even give you an exa…

I know there's not really that much of a need, but I had to make a test-thread once to pin down an error with the board, and i've just seen someone else post something along the lines of 'test post -- please ignore'. Might be an idea to have a test-forum, which auto-deletes the posts every 24 hours. On other boards i've seen with them, they tend to get used by people practicing BB code or playing with img tags etc. they seem to be veiguely useful.

I am suggesting a debate team. It will be modelled after the News Team, only it will be used for the debate forums. What the debate team will do is come up with debates and get other members to debate the subject. After the users agree, the members of the debate team will make the opening posts for the debates, and moderate the debate forums. Any comments?

Its pretty aggravating to try and read all the forums, only to get to the physics forums and when im done all the forums below it are no longer lit up as new comments. Can you please put all new threads as "permanant" until we mark them as read? I dont want to be rushed to try and read and reply to all the new threads that I encounter. Thank you.

Ok, not so much a BS wiki, but a rebuttal wiki.... My thinking is: we often get posts on arguments, whether creationism or the nature of the fall of WTC7, and we end up replying with previous threads that cover the same thing. So lets say someone wants to post about WTC7 and how it fell at a speed equal or faster to 9.8m/s^2, and that it takes an implosion and negative pressure inside the building to cause that to occur. I can only bet that people have either already posted info that shows it didn't fall that fast and that the premise is wrong, or demonstrated some other evidence that shows a building can suffer natural collapse within those characteristics.…

  18. Started by Royston,

I've searched to see if this has been a past problem, but I couldn't find anything. Anyway, for some reason I keep on getting automatically logged out...usually when I'm in the middle of posting something. It will then ask me to log in when I submit, and when I do, it goes onto 'you have tried to access an invalid thread (or something similar) please contact the administrator.' So I click back and submit again...sometimes it works, but sometimes I end up double posting. It's just getting a little tiresome doing this nearly every time I submit...any ideas what's causing this ?

  23. I would like the posts in the pseudoscience and metaphysics forum and the speculations forum also to be on the home page. The reason? Both are in areas of science, and they each get a lot of posts. Maybe new members will stay with us for more than a few days if they learn about all of the discussion in these two forums. Please consider, thanks.

Hi all! I was wondering if it would be possible to have something like a LaTex test pad - put in the LaTex code and see how it would display without having to use the preview post feature, could be useful for those who are learning LaTex too Comments anyone? Cheers, Ryan Jones
