I was going to post this in "Comments on moderation" but since that is a locked thread there can be no discussion. So it's here, so that there can be a conversation, if anyone desires that. Every so often we will get a reported post with a comment along the lines of "This person is wrong. You mods should do something about that" That's not what we do. Moderation, as we practice it, does not include evaluating the correctness of someone's response; if a moderator is posting about the material itself and in a position to evaluate the content, s/he is not acting as a moderator. (Posts in Speculations is possibly an exception, where these roles can be combined, mostly…

I've noticed nearly all the spam I see and report is from the Philosophy forum. Any significance in this?

I really worked hard to keep my rep neutral. Now, certain people or a person decided to dislike my comments unfairly. It was deliberate as it was done just after I posted an undeniable comment that must have affected some evangelical(s). These people cannot take criticism and resort to bad tactics. Help

perhaps intelligence can come in the form of understanding? how can you expect that of someone without a phd? WE are supposed to encourage new ideas and sometimes that means walking them through without telling them to submit. unless we all need phd brownies or something. not to offend anyone but really? i expect understanding from our elite group.

There is a problem with our mathtag/latex renderer - lines 1&2 seem to be identical to me, as are 3&4 but some display and others do not. The difference is that for the ones …

I couldn't activate this account as I used a hotmail address but that's sorted now since I used a gmail address Just to let you know, since I was confused, I'd created another account (I don't remember the username to be sincere but it's on the same IP so easy to find) so it's just 2 I have right now.. and tbh, I tried to email the staff on this email in the announcements but my hotmail account got temporarily locked cos there was apparently suspicious activity which I don't understand, so it would be easier to create another account to PM the admin which I did but that account turned out to be a mess so I decided to try to change my email.. it seems that hotmail addr…

They're my favourite topics personally. We should have on that, at least psych as its a major part of science tbh.

Out of curiosity, I've been doing a bit of searching in the Speculations forum for anything that could be considered a "good" idea by mainstream physics. Really, I'm just looking for anything that isn't obviously nonsense. Unfortunately my search was unsuccessful: I couldn't find any. If anyone remembers any old threads that seem to fit my criteria I would be very much grateful. **Note: I'm unsure if this is the appropriate section for this thread. If not, please move it .

Suggestion, if many members have had problems with changing their picture because the picture is too large, maybe add a text box telling what size constraints are allowed. This would circumvent having a moderator addressing the problem. What is states currently: "Use a custom photo Once uploaded, you can adjust the cropped image. Recommend an image 200px or larger" I tried on multiple devices to change my photo and when I had no luck, contacted hypervalent.

I am writing short daily biographies of people born on the date I publish them. The bios are oriented toward scientists and mathematicians but may also sometimes include inventors, composers or artists. Would it be worthwhile for me to put them on Scienceforums? If so, what would be the proper place for them? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

With more and more people taking an interest in science, And forums no longer being just for academics, Perhaps it may be time for a new sub forum, Somewhere between speculation/trash, (TESTING GROUND) Where new posters who are unsure where their post fits , or pet theories which may need a bit of work to move to speculation go, it could be a more relaxed forum where those more knowledgeable can "advice" what is needed for their theory/idea to be testable or what prove they should look for or advice on how to present an idea. Topics can then be moved to the right forum by mods, Or stay where they are until they are of a standard to be moved, This will also s…

Would it be possible to add a rule requiring the usage of the quote function? Mostly concerned with ensuring proper and accurate attribution of previous remarks. Goes a long ways toward discussion clarity. Obviously there may be software out there unable to support it and the occasional mishap in the coding, but at least an effort would have been made.

Could I start a Q&A thread where people can post scientific questions? It seems that a great number of threads are devoted to very simple inquiries.

I am surprised there isn't a place here to talk sports. There are forums for religion, politics, speculations, general philosophy, and a lounge but no sports? Would it be oppropriate to start sports related discussions in the lounge?

I don't understand the inconsistencies of the forum clock and find it a positive nusisance at times. For instance when I am replying in a thread and the poster I am replying to is noted as being online, I might expedite my reply for their benefit. Then I find that going back to the index/menus the poster was actually recorded as being offline a significant time before I posted so my rush was needless. Now I see the ridiculous situation where the poster of post#97 in this thread http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/85331-thought-experiments/page-5 Is recorded as being offline at 1.12pm although He is also recorded as posting at 1.14pm I wondered if t…

When I am on my laptop (Win7, Google Chrome 37) I get a malware warning when I try to open a thread. I don't get it on my Android phone. Probably something to look into. Seems to be all threads. Even got the warning when the forum tried to display this thread after I clicked submit to start a new one.

A good discussion of sexology will be slightly sexual. Is that okay? Does it depend on how personal the content is? For example, see my posts here (Why do men like lesbians so much?).
