The main problem in schizophrenia from a psychological point of view is the lack of trust in others. At the beginning I didn’t believe that I was ill. That’s very common to schizophrenic people. So this was the first thing why I didn’t trust the psychiatrists. My first psychiatrist, who I met when I left the hospital, said I can work eight hours per day. I knew that this was impossible with the dose of Haldol I got. But I wasn’t telling him that, because I got the feeling that it wouldn’t change anything. However I was also been so overdosed that I wasn’t able to concentrate more than a few minutes. Again I wasn’t able to tell this the psychiatrist. I didn’t trust him. I …

You may wonder, if I really found the source of this mental illness. I found it at least in my case, because this was the door to recover from schizophrenia. I found the solution to the basic problem which I discovered also in two other guys who are still mentally ill. The way to the solution of my case was long with many setbacks. However, I didn’t give up. To find the source at least in my case I needed to reconstruct what was happened at the start of the mental illness. The problems started back in 1990/91. I don’t want to tell you the whole story. I remember that I started to isolate me from society. I did this because I felt guilty about something that was n…

I'm pretty sure I'm right and the teacher is refusing to change, but I want to double check. For sanities sake. In our textbook, there is an example of a 7 point rating scale that is listed as an interval scale. But in the online test, a 4 point rating scale is listed as being ordinal. Even Quizlet and other test bank style sites list all rating scales as being ordinal scales. Why? Am I really missing something, or is this a failure of school officials to admit they have a bad question that is being repeated in many schools? Edit: For clarity. The four point scale is for restaurants and the seven point scale is for mood. Both, in my opinion, have to be ordi…

Hi, I'm new at this page so can tell me if this topic has already been talked about. I'm interested in knowing what kind of thoughts do you have about diagnosis systems. Do you think it is a good way of approaching mental health problems in practice? Is it a good starting point when starting treatment such as psychotherapy, or might there be another way of approaching mental issues? I'm currently an undergrad student in psychology and will be doing my bachelors' thesis next year (i study at a university in Northern Europe). In some of our courses there's been discussion about a more dimensional approach to mental health issues, as an alternative to the diagnos…

Hi guys, I'm just thinking of things that have happened in my life. There was a time when I was younger when I felt and experienced a lot of repressed anger towards others for many, many years. It came about predominantly because of my lack of communication skills and my inability to deal with problems as a young teenager and through a lack of adult mentoring and any support network I was able to turn to. It clouded my vision of reality and made the world appear to be one filled with great injustices and I still do have such a perspective to some extent but not as how bad as how it was before during my transition from teenage-hood to adulthood. This made me feel extre…

Okay... So we all know that music affects our brains in many different ways.... and, we also know what genres do what to the brain..... BUT, what about the new genres, like Lo-Fi Hip Hop? And what does it say about you? I've tried looking into it and quizzing myself, as well as asking others to quiz me and analyze me, but have found almost nothing. Please, explain, I would love to know.

If you don't know about it already, there were these "experiments" made in the 1900's (not saying if they're true or not). The start of these was by an experiment called the Philadelphia Experiment. (Link: https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/montauk/rainbow/philadelphia_experiment.htm).It was an experiment used to make the U.S. Navy ships not detectable by radar, and it worked. But it worked too well. The ship disappeared and apparently went into the future and a couple of dudes on board talked to some dude in the future about this, and one stayed in the future and the other went back. Apparently, when the ship got back, it was over 300 miles away and was teleported to Vir…

If some of you feel as I do regarding the status of America, you'd would very much like to forget about certain events transpiring this week and refocus you thoughts on more positive and productive interests. To that end, I've refocused my thoughts on interests of the mind and recently discovered this SciShow video on the Science of Hyponsis, which I found to be illuminating. Anecdotally, hypnosis appears to be an effective way to clear one's head of negative thoughts and memories. It seems that hypnosis could be more than just a parlor trick and may involve a relaxed yet hyper-attentive brain, according to the SciShow video host. This video discusses several credibl…

I am really curious why some posters are so desperate that they will create multiple accounts to keep posting, even if only suspended for a few days. Do they really think that their idea is so important, it must be heard? Do they just think that rules don't apply to them? Unfortunately, the people who could answer those questions probably can't because they have been banned! Should this be classified as mental illness?

Over the last 30 years or so, placeboes have become more effective against drugs in trials, but no one seems to know why. This has become one of the biggest mysteries in science. Drug companies can no longer use placeboes effectively against drugs that often test little better than the sugar pill, for example. I am wondering what you think. Is something outside the realm of known science going on? Dave

Anne is introduced by her friend to a guy, Billy, on Friday night, 24th Dec. Billy says hello to Anne around 9:30 pm the same day through we-chat. They introduce each other then Billy sends his photo to Anne. Although he is not her type at all, not a handsome guy, looks older than his age, it is ok to her. She doesn't send her picture to him. He doesn't mind. The chatting gets on quite well till 10:45 pm. Anne wants to say goodbye to him, but he insists it is weekend why not chat more ? Anne agrees and keeps on chatting with him until 11:30 pm. Billy is very talkative and has no intention to stop, so Anne says it is time to go to bed. we could do it ne…

Not clear on all details of 9/11 - Bush did it. We don't know how exactly the universe begun nor we don't know its complexity in full detail therefore - God. And so on... Is there a psychological mechanism or a set of psychological mechanisms which can be pinpointed and/or named to describe this "phenomena" ? (Besides being a moron)

It's commonplace to be said that madness is a brain biochemical issue. Just that? I feel madness happens when kindness is low in the "terroir", and reiterating- I feel the main cause of madness is the low level of kindness in the environment we are moving in. A pill of sympathy does a lot.

After reading a good amount of material about psychopathy, empathy and epigenetics, I have a bunch of information that I'm not sure is correlated or not. As I understand, from studies with mice, baby mice who were licked more by their mothers were noted to become more social and more active. Mice who were taken away from any mother mouse, began to exhibit behaviors of anxiety, depression and ASPD. As I remember, but cant confirm through my internet searches anymore, they tested the genes of the mice and found that one gene was epigenetically affected to change its phenotype, helping to inspire this ASPD type behavior. I cant find the reference to the actual epigenetic…

I'm making another topic because no one is getting on my other one( I think I accidentally answered my own question ). Anyways, I'd insted like to talk about boredom. Why do we get bored? How is boredom a good thing (this can be evolutionary or current day)? can boredom be inflicted/remedied? Again, like my first topic, The easiest way to go about this is to give me some samples of boring scenarios, activities, or even things in general. you can post your own theories, of course, and if you see something wrong with someone else's theory, make sure to point it out. Also, do be mindful that we're only right a small fraction of the time, but when we combine our fraction…

So, how do you hack and make someone fall in love with you? Chance is people has been thinking about this type of question, let it be love potion and hypnosis, what really does the trick? I've heard from a friend that eating chocolate is able to trick the mind into the same wavelength as you are falling in love, but what exactly happens there? Maybe when you does it and the girl falls in love with someone else instead. How would you make it so that the girl falls in love with you? Let it be verbal, strong voice versus weak voice, what wavelength is the mind in, who do you think of, and what do you do? This is a bit of behavioral analysis too as girls generally play with h…

Before you read my question, please know that I really only want answers from scientists, doctors, OR people who are experts or have extensivly researched the subject. I'm NOT looking for answers from baised people. This includes anti-drug activists that don't think anyone should smoke marjuana, and also includes people who overly advocate marijuana, worshipping it and refusing to beleive that any adverse effects can come from it. -- MY QUESTION: My question is, can the use of marjuana have any permanent effects on the mind? This includes, loss of memories that happened while NOT high (childhood memories, etc.). Or maybe damaging your ability to remember memor…

I have the onset of arthritis. This is what the hospital told me when they x-rayed a suspected broken toe a few years ago. I have been to the doctors for years with chest and back pains that have always been declared as muscular and skeletal. (presumably partly to do with arthritis)... I can deal with pain.... but it gets a little scary when in the sternum. I might go back and get checked out again as it has been a while.... Anyway.... Monday morning, after sitting in bed playing a PC game all night, I laid down to rest. As I was drifting off I suddenly heard a loud crack as my mind gave me the image of a man stabbing me with a ivory blade (about the size of a nail…

I hear a voice in my head. I do not know where it comes from, probably my mind or brain. I have been a daydreamer all of my sixty five years. Am I the ONLY one that will ever say, I hear a voice in my head? I want to believe my mind is my intellience and emotional center, yet my heart is in there somewhere. I am totally confused about the word "soul". If I have a spirit what do i need with a mind and a emotional center? It seems the mind is a information center invisible to us yet telling us things maybe we should know about our life? Can anyone help me with this problem? curious
