Hi, In my day-to-day work I'm a security guard in trips (mostly children and highschool kids) and as such one of my responsabilities is being a Medic (not full, more for CPR and emergency help). Recently, I've encountered many cases of kids having fever, while their pulse was sky-high (though blood pressure was fine). I was wondering about the reasons the body is having a fever. Is it like a headache - more of a WARNING sign? or is it caused by the reactions in the body? If this is a stupid question, I'm sorry. Tell me, and I'll be ashamed of myself. btw, another related question - why does the pulse get so high when a child is having a fever? If …

I have had this debate several times with many people. The only studies that I have seen that claim this seem to have been discredited. I would like to know peoples opinions on this matter and any scientific information that they might have.

Hi, i'm in high school and i'm going to do an original science project in the field of medicine and/or biology that doesn't require me to deal with living organisms. (sorry, it's not that i'm being picky. it's just that i have to deal with so much more paperwork and red tape if i deal with any animals or something possibly dangerous.) Any ideas, suggestions or tips from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've had to get IV treatments quite a bit from the hospital, and the doctors always have troubles finding my vains. The guy who put the IV in found what he said was a 'good vain' once. The next time I went he said that the vain closes after the IV treatment so he couldn't use that one again. I don't see how this could be, I mean, wouldn't you run out of vains? Was this man seriously misinformed, or does something like that really happen to vains after IV treatments?

How does it work? Could someone tell me if this sounds like chemotherapy? You have a uranium pile short of critical mass. The stray neutrons go out into a room. Many people are in this room. People wear graphite armored suits where they don't need radiation.

Ok, I dont know a whole lot about thermography/ thermology, but it's less harmful than X-ray, and is good for many more things. So why isnt it being used readily in the medical world??? Dont get me wrong, X-rays are the best for detecting broken bones, or anything related to the skeletal structure, but thermology deals with circulation, and heat differentials. Its the best/ painless/ safest way to dectect cancer! (especially if your a woman, who would like her breasts not to be flattened by a mammogram.)

Hello everyone, I'm currently doing a little research on aersol & sub-lingual medication. I'm particularly interested in the medication people have to carry around with them in case of an attack (allergy, asthma, angina....) I was wondering what kind of allergy can be treated with an aerosol or sub-lingual medication & what are the name of their respective medicine. What other kind of applications aerosol & sub-lingual medicine have even if they are marginal? If you have any information on the subject or if you could point me out to good online database it would be very appreciated. Thank you

Dear all, I am facing some sort of sickness and I would like to explain whats happening hope someone professional may be able to define my problem. I was told by my teacher that suncreen has no point. It really doesnt protect you. He said it was for money and such. I dont remember the chemical he mentioned that said it was harmful, when I think of it Ill add it. So now my point is it it really true? I think that one whould not need sunscreen because if your body is feeling hot, and you are turning red isnt it telling you to go home.

Hi, I'm a junior in high school and new to this forum. In our chem 2 class we are doing a forensics presentation. We've been given two questions: 1. You've just received 10 cc's of a fluid that was extracted from the liver of a recent victim. You are looking for signs of heavy metal poisoning that may appear to be from a food source what do you find? 2. A deadbeat dad has been forced by family court to take random drug tests. It is suspected he has been somehow beating the system. You have received randomly plucked pieces of hair, each about 4 inches long and relinquished in court. What drugs might you find evidence for? Besides finding conclusions…

Does anyone know where i can find cancer case stats since 1900? I wan't to plot the stats against nuclear tests carried out by various countries so it would also be useful to know how many curies are released, on average per Kt of atomic blast. It would be even better if you know of someone who has already done it!

You often here of people going into shock in tramatic situations. I can remember an instance when I ran over my little brother's face with a bicycle (his fault, not mine) he went into shock. He didn't cry, he just sat there, not responsive. Emotional stress can also cause someone to go into shock. What is the medical explanation for this? Why does it happen?

I don't see why we couldn't genetically engineer viruses to have correct DNA. And use them to replace or fix the corrupt DNA in cancer cells.

I have readded the pharmacology forum, and based on my interest in psychopharmacology, I'll be posting a series of threads regarding roads to synthesis of psychoactive drugs. The purpose of these threads will to comment on the syntheses and the mechanism of action of the product. Do not discuss your personal use of anything, or where to get it, or if you're actually performing one of these syntheses without a license. Talking about these procedures is legal, actually performing them is not. Enjoy:-) NOTICE: The following directions and instructions are in violation of United States Federal, State, and Local laws if carried out in part or in whole. As such, neither Sci…
