I have had this debate several times with many people. The only studies that I have seen that claim this seem to have been discredited. I would like to know peoples opinions on this matter and any scientific information that they might have.

My knees have been hurting me for a long time. Now they seem to be getting worse. I don't understand why but it's seriously starting to worry me since walking is starting to hurt. What should I do? Should I go see a doctor? I go on the inversion table every day I wonder if that helps the knees. Anybody else have bad knees?

We can currently do transplants of lungs, kidneys, livers, etc. if those organs are damaged or diseased. Will we ever be able to do so with brains? I've heard a lot about the possibility of growing replacement organs in vitro or using 3-D printers to create replacement organs. When will we be able to do so with brains? What obstacles lie in the way?

Humans wiped out mosquitoes (in one small lab test) If we could eliminate a species, should we? Science News. BY SUSAN MILIUS, 8:26AM, DECEMBER 17, 2018 "For the first time, humans have built a set of pushy, destructive genes that infiltrated small populations of mosquitoes and drove them to extinction. But before dancing sleeveless in the streets, let’s be clear. This extermination occurred in a lab in mosquito populations with less of the crazy genetic diversity that an extinction scheme would face in the wild. The new gene drive, constructed to speed the spread of a damaging genetic tweak to virtually all offspring, is a long way from practical use. Yet this test…

Inquiring minds want to know, a fatal dose of what drugs will it take for the express purpose of causing the immediate death of the subject? I want to know the drugs that will cause the easiest death, rather than other methods which are considered to be more painful. I know the subject could be applied in a broad sense to suicide, but I'm just curious, I do not have the intention of killing myself.

A year ago, I was admitted to the hospital with acute pancreatitis; the heavy doses of painkillers they gave me caused me to develop a bowel obstruction, which resulted in a perforation. Fun times as you might imagine. I also happen to be a diabetic, which presented some issues. They didn’t allow me to eat or drink for two weeks (talk about a crash diet), and when I was finally able to put something besides ice chips in my mouth , I learned they had nothing in the way of diabetic friendly fare. Essentially they you ordered whatever and they just shot you up with enough insulin to compensate. I mentioned that to the doctor, and while he agreed with the waste…

I am an American without Health Insurance, right now i cant really go to a doctor. so i'm hoping someone around here may have some knowledge on the subject. It runs in my family, and i have some, but not all of the symptoms. Excessive thirst and urination. Occasionally blurry vision. I dont really have excessive hunger, in fact i really dont have a big appetite in general ever. I dont really know how to measure excessive fatigue, sometimes im tired when it seems i shouldnt be, but i wouldnt call it excessive. The primary thing for me is the excessive drinking and thus urination. If i dont drink enough i start to feel nauseous. In everything ive read about diabetes…

Congress is poised to pass legislation to allow government money to be spent of stem cell research with embryos provided from furtility clinics. These embryos would have to be expressly donated by their owners (parents) and would otherwise be distroyed as medical waste. The religious right is opposed to this and President Bush has said that he would veto such a bill. Is the potential for medical breakthroughs in diseases and birth defects great enough to override the concerns of the religious people in this country who oppose it? Or do we already have enough stem cell lines to work with.

Hi. This all started when I was about 10 or 11. I always yawn (sometimes It's even hard to make a complete yawn) and deep breathe. Like if I don't have enough air in my lungs. Now I am 14 and It still continues. Also It seems like it's hard to breath only when I think about it. When I do something (homework or some important job) I forget about it and it gets OK. Maybe my brain "forgets" to breath normally or something?? Also when I turn my body up-down, left-right I hear very strange sounds from my lungs. Like if all the air there comes out. When I told about it to my parents they said like - "don't worry about it. You will get used with it Can anyone tell me what to d…

The United States spends more per capita than any other nation on healthcare, yet it doesn't seem to be working. For example, Americans spend twice as much as the British, and yet in every age group, economic bracket, and education level, Americans die sooner and are much more likely to get heart disease, stroke, cancer, and any number of other ailments. So, why? Is it diet? Do we stress ourselves out more? Is our healthcare system just corrupt and ineffective? Is it all three?

You might think I have a firm opinion, from the title, but I'm pulled both ways. I like watching boxing. (male) But there's no denying the brain damage it causes. Mohammed Ali is the prime example. You do get the odd death, but you get that in other sports, and if that was all there was it would be easier to be against a ban. But the brain damage happens to every boxer. You can't box and not take head shots. Many boxers show no sign of damage, but they definitely do suffer it, some more than others. I'm quite concerned about Saturday's World Heavyweight Championship bout between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz. I've followed Joshua's career since before he b…

So I've taken up smoking in the past year as a somewhat regular habit, and I'm curious as to the incidence of smoking related illness as a function of average number of cigarrettes smoked in some time frame. I like smoking so I won't be giving it up completely any time soon, but it would be interesting to know what I was risking and possibly what risk threshhold I'm willing to accept.

For the past 14 months, I have had a succession of chiropractic interns trying to fix the mess that the first one made. We are finally starting to wrap that up. I would have gone to a professional to get it fixed, but I was really leery of all the leeches that don't want to fix things right, don't know how to, and those that want to charge a gazillion dollars to be that touch above and still don't know everything that the students know, besides the fact that the pain kind of interferes with my cognitive processes sometimes since all of the nerves are way up near my neck. For the previous ten years, I was caught up in their vicious circles of pain that they actuall…

Hi: Let's the say the villi of an obese patient's small intestine are modified -- via gene therapy -- to prevent him/her from absorbing any carbs he/she eats. The carbs are still digested as they normally would be but are not absorbed into the bloodstream. The villi continue to absorb all nutrients other than carbs. This will cause starvation of glucose and will result in the body breaking down fat for energy. Will this cure obesity? What are the obstacles to doing this? Thanks, Green Xenon

I was living in England when the world-wide hysteria over the 'date rape' drug GBH first seized hold of public consciousness. Officials in the British government were alarmed that their laws did not permit them at the time to prohibit the manufacturing, sale, distribution, and use of the drug, so being naughty, I thought I would buy some and try it. I found it really salty -- so salty in fact that I couldn't understand how anyone could possibly slip it into someone's drink without the person noticing it, unless it were tomato juice already spiced with Worcestershire Sauce. I also found that while it made me slightly sleepy, it took about an hour, even at the highest…

What are the chances of there being a human being who can't tell a lie, in any way, no matter how hard they try? If so, would they classify it as genetic or mental disorder? Then there's the situation of what advantages/disadvantages of never being able to lie. If you're trying to protect a friend's privacy (embarrassing habits or interests), not everyone will know right away to simply tell them "I'm not allowed to say.". Or even government secrets for your country from their enemies. Maybe it would allow for easier marriages between 2 people, I know that would be more likely.

There are a lot of people who think we should all eat organic food. Some for nutritional reasons, some for ecological reasons, and some for animal welfare reasons. What do you think? Should we all be eating organic food? Some organic food? if so, which? Or is the issue silly?
