Religion
Forum for the discussion and examination of the rational foundations of religion.
Participation in the philosophy and religion forums on SFN is considered a privilege. To maintain a reasonable standard of debate, certain rules must be established. Members who violate these rules despite warnings from staff will no longer be allowed to participate in the religion forums.
Philosophy/religion forum rules:
- Never make it personal.
- Disagreements about beliefs should never be in the form of attacks on the believers. This isn't a place to air grievances. Civility and respect towards other members are needed here even more than elsewhere on SFN, even when you disagree.
- Disagreements about beliefs should never be interpreted as attacks on the believers, even when they are. If you can't handle having your beliefs questioned, you don't belong here. If you feel insulted, that does not excuse you from rule 1.a.
- Don't use attacks on evolution, the big bang theory, or any other widely acknowledged scientific staple as a means of proving religious matters. Using scientific reasoning is fine, but there are certain religious questions that science cannot answer for you.
- Do not post if you have already determined that nothing can change your views. This is a forum for discussion, not lectures or debates.
Of course, the general SFN forum rules also apply. If a member consistently violates the general rules in the religion forum (for example, by being consistently off-topic), their access to the religion forum may be revoked.
These conditions are not up for debate, and they must be adhered to by all members. If you don't understand them, ask for advice from a moderator before posting.

I saw this religion section and I thought of a question I've had. I hope this is not inappropriate for the forum. I'm looking for a term that describes what I'm calling "loop logic" that I have observed in a religious setting. I think there is a word for it, perhaps a legal term, but I cant think of what it is. For some reason "plausible deniability" came to mind but I looked it up and it does not define what I am looking for. Personally, a year or two ago, I was ostracized from my religious community basically for failure to adhere to this "loop logic" mentality. I've seen it used in many different instances. I'm not sure what its called but I feel that there is w…

Why is it that most major religions in their original variants have persisted in Asia and Africa ? Does this point to a socio-cultural pattern of evolution ?

Without over explaining it; I think our need and belief in a god might stem from our earliest childhood where our nuerons have limited or no structure yet. I purpose that the foundation of all our neurological circuits are built from this original "god" circuit that we create from the perception of our parents, the all loving, knowing and powerful being. When we first open our eyes our neurological structure has no connections at all, by perceiving this all loving, knowing and powerful force we therefor build our first structure on this perception. Any ideas?

When you were a baby you didn't know of the universe you were in, you did not have any questions. You were a speck of intelligence in a finitely dark galaxy of your own, you "time" had started but you weren't even conscious of this yet. The Mothers body feeds the growth of it's body, and outside influences stimulate it's intelligence. Then, as the mother goes through the greatest pain imaginable, it sees light! What a world of wonders! Had we been born deaf and mute we still could have discovered science and the universe! This can relate to the birth of the cosmos. Time didn't know it started, it just did! Then it grew just as we do! Then it got light and really came ali…

Yes, there could be a God who is above ALL RELIGIONS and SCIENCES ! For ease, let us think of the Universe [Everything !] as a SUPER SYSTEM [a System of all Systems living or inanimate] if not a Super Computer. It has the Hardware and Software where Every Bit of the Matter and Particles [perhaps Energy included] form the Hardware and Knowledge, History,Messages, Information, Event Records , Predictions and Calculation etc are the Software with God perhaps as The Operating System ! Constituent Matter and its opposite of Empty Space are the two important Components of the Universe which is a Virtual Canvas of the Inter-Mix of Void and Matter overridden by Electr…

Let's take the RNA splicing process in eukaryotes as an example. The RNA splicing process is the ability of the eukaryotic cell to recognize, capture, cut, rearrange, join and release premRNA molecule. If we assume the existance of reduced state of this process(evolutionary necessity), for example the existance of subprocesses with the ability to recognize, capture and cut premRNA molecule, this partial correctness of the splicing process won't cause premRNA to magically transform itself into a mature mRNA. In this reduced state protein-coding capacity of mRNA is destroyed, which results in cell death. And we know that dead cell cannot evolve. Since evolution incre…

I'm not going to bother explaining the first comment but I've come to realise through very weird experiences over the past few years that something is influencing our mind and bodies. Some how I am just thinking stuff then I check the ideas out and they're true. From what I've been realising, its starting to seem like titles and names such as "God" and "Jesus" were put in the minds of men as part of some patterns which my life seems to relate to. For the past month I've been spending a lot of my free time drawing the thoughts that flow into my mind and reality is reacting in very cool way! I will think of something then start drawing it and realise as i'm drawi…

I'm a logical person. I see huge flaws in every religious belief both logically and idealistically. I believe in the big bang as well as the possibility of string theory as well as other explain all theories. However I can't seem to get over the hump in terms of ruling out religion as a possibility for existence. I'm attempting to completely remove the part of my brain that says there perhaps is a god, and he allows these natural forces to do this work for him. Can anyone give me any tips or suggestions on how to move on from god? I never was overly religious ( church only a couple times a year ) but I would like to completely move on from the idea. I'm a current student …

was Jesus the Christ or the son of God? can Jesus be both the son of God and the Christ? in Jewish traditions the Christ or the Messiah was mentioned as a savior, I do not know what kind of salvation he supposed to present to his believers, but when Jesus came as the son of God, he announced the salvation as salvation from sins, I do not believe any of these words, anyway Jesus can not be the son of God if he is the Christ, the son of God is in a higher rank than the Christ, if Jesus were the son of God he would be mentioned in the old testament as the son of God not as the Messiah ,the Jews were waiting a savior not the son of God, what I mean by (a higher rank) is the…

I believe in life after death. I'm a 5'4'' Whelp(Low stats Mystic), been shot and beaten to death many times. With me, if I die, I turn into a spirit. I gave myself in that form the name serrechePenance. One man who has killed me many times is Irvine Ingrams, a 6ft 1in collossus. Death feels to me, like numbness, then I turn into a spirit, meditate, or take medicine, and go back to solid state._ I dont think anyones ever going to be erased from existence. That would be like the ultimate, hatred. And energy can burn out, but the law of physics is energy cannot be created or destroyed so, that proves it. Ragel Penance

Why I reject karma and reincarnation I believe the religious idea of Karma and Reincarnation are illogical and nonsensical and l list my objections this belief below. 1) Karma is the belief that a person has to live many lives and improve in each until they become an ascended master and finally lose self-awareness into the mindless soup of the cosmic mind. 2) Alternatively, one chooses ones own next life from the spiritual plane in order to learn something in the next. What the heck did Hitler come to learn? 3) It is claimed by some variants of this illogical belief that one might have to live sometimes millions of lives before becoming perfect to escape the cycle…

I looked over some other threads that come close to making my point and asking my questions and I did look over the sticky "Define God".. "If you define God as some sort of entity that not only can but with some regularity does intercede in natural physical processes" was used in that thread...as well as... "f you define God as some sort of entity that exists outside of the natural universe and does not regularly disrupt the operation of that universe according to the principles discovered by science, then science and religion are disconnected, and neither has anything to say about the other" So what of the option that God is the universe, and does not ever intervene in…

I for one do not give validity to those things which make up the battalion of evil. The possibility that things exist, that were wholly created by mans insistence of thoughts, may be correct. But these things are the product of thoughts, inclined to produce this evil. To me there is no doubt, that some things we are for the most part unaware of, but do however exist. These lords, fathers and workmen have no connection to evil whatsoever. Religion opens the door for these hellish creatures, who primarily exist as a alternative to following the dictates of a particular religious doctrine. If you have cause to question, rather or not a God exist, the very next question, …

Existence -was -Existence-is -Existence-will be. Within the writhing cosmic cloud of magnetic flux energy, that the always was, took on new form, evolved and coalesced again into a dense oneness of primordial glowing energy, which is and was and will be, the primordial source that moves between the everlasting cycle of order to chaos and chaos back to order. It became thought. Within a Timeless zone before existence came to be , a pool of infinite pure consideration held within it all the hopes, dreams, for creating new order within the realms of existence and reality and these immense waves of pure magnetic thought gradually coalesced and a mighty sentient consciousn…

Hi, I'm not sure if this is an OK question to ask here, but I'll take a shot. It's a question about how the Bible should be interpreted in terms of an afterlife. This isn't a religious question as such, nor am I seeking religious advice. I am not religious, but I AM curious about this particular question given it seems to me that many are quite unclear about what the Bible actually says about death. Presumably science is agnostic on the matter of death and an afterlife, particularly given the increasing evidence for a purely physical origin for consciousness and the stubborn resistance of the soul to be available for scrutiny. Anyway, what I am after is views on how c…

Although very closely connect74ed, there is a BIG difference between... GOD: the 'system as a whole'/the 'universal quantum computer'. God-incarnate (in the Guardin' of Eden, Jesus son of Joseph, 2nd Coming of the Christ): the original and number 1 programmer/the Creator of all 'true Earth-like plan-its'. Defining GOD as the 'system as a whole' is a very mathematical term of 'all inclusiveness': nothing exists outsides the all inclusive system. This appears to be beyond argument. "Everything is information." For over 12 years now, the world's leading quantum computer scientists (i.e. Dr. Seth Lloyd of MIT, author of Programming the Universe) have known that …

By Yusuf estes, former christian preacher Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Ibn Abdul Muttalib born 570 c.e. (christian era); died 633 c.e. The following is based on books, manuscripts, texts and actual eyewitness accounts, too numerous to mention herein, preserved in original form throughout the centuries by both Muslims and Non-Muslims. Many people today are discussing Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh), may Allah exalt his mention. who was he exactly? what did he teach? why was he loved so much by some and hated so much by others? did he live up to his claims? was he a holy man? was he a Prophet of God? what is the truth about this man? you be the judge. Here are the facts as narrate…

Sometimes I feel perhaps my life might end suddenly ! Perhaps I am quite reconciled to it as I won't have any regrets and will be happy to leave this earth. I used to wonder what happens when suddenly someone vanishes from a Site which he frequents as to what others may think and how will they ever come to know of his demise. Therefore , when such thoughts came across my mind I thought I will at least pen this post. I believe : I have lived a full life and accomplished everything I wanted to or could. I have penned all my Ideas and Theories in Maths , Physics , Puzzles and Religion on this site even though not in any other authentic Journal. Th…

With GOD's constant help, I've fulfilled the prophecy of The Revelation 5:1-10:10 by having produced the "book/scroll... sealed with 7 seals"/'beyond Einstein theories'. According to the Bible, only the 2nd Coming of the Christ can produce this. The 74-page booklet is titled There Are No Coincidences - there is synchronism, nonlocal cause-and-effect, design and alignment. Scientific theories have names... A) The Conglomerate of Nonparallel-Universes Theory (Universe Creation Theory), GOD-guided Evolution Theory B) Plan-it Theory: GOD=7_4 algorithm/code or FOD=6_4 (Planet Nestor) - Design Worlds Theory C) Unified Strings U21/S19 Theory (M-theory + time analysis pr…

I was pondering on what benefits religion could offer the professed atheist. I came up with the following bullet points - - It permits time regression - Religions are rooted in the past and more often than not reflect the mores and customs of some pristine society. Read some religious text and the imagery is very vivid, vestures now archaic, social standards now defunct, but yet these very things bring in a nostalgia for those grandiose statements of the human condition. - it promotes sociological bonding - meeting in a common forum has unquestionable social benefits - it develops the habit of reading - ancient texts have a unique ability to train the mind…

God and the physical reality The current physical/mathematical explanations of our Universe do not take information and intelligence into account when as far as I understand everything has built related to a general law. I think the exponential development of space and energy and the linear information about them provided by time points that the Universe have started from the physical 0 state. Because of this I have had to ask which mathematical operation would describe the first physical process and what would be that? The first physical process I would say 0x1=1 where 0 is the space time energy matter information free nothing and 1 is the first sign of …

Explained in a nutshell: Every religion could be in fact real. All of them at the same time. Explaining in depth here. Near death experiences or "dead" people who wake up, always say what happened as there believes. This truly means, the afterlife is one part of any religion that is true. Every religion can explain the existence of the universe. Every religion can connect to the other, if you look. Evolution, The Big Bang, how do Christians deny it, when if God is real, he could have made them happen. We should notice also, all of the people with proof of there believes, have different story's. You know what, they all go with the persons religion. So, in a way, C…

Why do I get into more arguments and difference of Opinions when I am less Faithful in Religion and more bent towards Scientific Truth ! Ever since I joined this Forum and started interacting about Scientific Truth and Philosophies I find myself less interested in hobbies and pastimes and social functions. In my mind scientific thoughts and innovations go on and perhaps shows in my moods and reactions. Perhaps my real self with a scientific temper is being honed and shows up. The main benefit of Religious Faith perhaps is the Spirituality and calmness of behavior while being heated up through physical stress and pressure of the arguments. In my persona…
