Is anyone aware of the law know as Blue by Day White by Knight. It regulates an illegal civil battery that is used for law enforcement purposes. What type of physics do you think are involved, mechanically to operate the electro-magnetic field, affecting the pineal gland of the brain for the battery to operate? What machine is used? I am curious about this machine I would post some URL in this forum but I have trouble pasting. The URLs would contain the article for Iowa Law Review for the regulation of law enforcement and military.

  2. Every object hanging on a string (like the simple pendulum) will rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise according to the place where it is ,the force which makes this rotation appears in foucault's pendulum , and the force is proportional to the mass of the object, we can benefit from this force by a device I call (mechanical cell) , in which a 4 kilogram mass hanging can lift 1 cc of water to 10 cm height, if we use thousands of such device we can make flood of water to generate electricity. so why any hanging object rotates around its vertical axis ? the planet earth rotates around its axis because it rotates around the sun, the satellite rotates around itself b…

How would one go about removing a magnet from a hole in something? My problem is that I got a small ball magnet stuck in a screwdriver hole, fitted for an alan wrench, and cannot remove it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, I am becoming increasingly interested in the science and mathematics and was wondering if you could offer some advice. I didn't do well at school (Lazy, uninterested) however later in life have found I am very interested in a number of areas. I'm studying a distance course in Astrobiology via Coursera (Uni of Princeton) but find myself wishing I'd paid more attention in biology, chemistry and physics. I have been teaching myself mathematics and am at a good standard of pre-calculus (confident with trig and algebra, exponents etc). Can anybody recommend a book which gives a good (but probably relatively shallow) introduction to the key sciences upon w…

Hi all, This is probably a silly question: what is the reason that conductance is not modulated when we gate a metal? Is it because the metal screens the effect of the gate, or is it because there is such a huge carrier concentration that the added (or depleted) carriers due to the gate go unnoticed? Cheers, pyz

  6. Just note I couldn't find this on Google. So why? Why not slower, or faster? This is a confusing question that I hope someone could answer. And another question along these lines, if a photon has no mass, how does it "fall" into a black hole. Gravity is the force of attraction between two objects, right?

Forgive me if this topic was discussed before. Assuming that the current physical models are valid and the universe expands with the rate of expansion accelerating - would an advanced civilization be able to sustain itself for an infinite ammount of time, given a finite amount of energy?

Hello all, Question, what is energy? My science teacher vaguely defined it as the ability to do work. What does that mean? Light I believe is energy, but it doesn't do anything like work? This is a really hard question to explain, so sorry for my not explaining it enough. Hope you can help, and thanks for reading...

  10. I haven't spent much time reading on this particular one, but the topic came up today. I recall hearing that the particle waves (such as light) behaved differently depending on whether or not it was observed by a camera. What I've always wondered is how they isolated that "observation" was the variable changing how the light behavior as opposed to anything else, such as the electromagnetic fields of the running equipment. It seems silly, but did they repeat the experiment with the detectors/cameras running, but facing away or with a blacked out lens? I know they ran the experiment with the camera present but on vs. Off... But "observation" seems a less likely variable th…

It is my impression that gravity is a field. I have heard conclusions that you could survive the event horizon of a black hole if it were supermassive. This seems counter-intuitive considering the forces involved. I tried a thought experiment involving the earth as a test bed. In this experiment, i am sealed in a box of unobtanium at the center of the earth. In the first version I am alive and well because the crushing force of gravity is transmitted through the over-all mass pushing at me is held off by my box. In the second version, i am crushed because of the cumulative intensity of the gravitational field. i considered the second version due to a…

Two spheres of equal size, starting at the same position A, take to different paths to the same destination B. The path of sphere 1 is curved. It is two perfect semicircles. The path of sphere 2 is a straight line. Sphere 2 travels at 10 mph. How much faster does sphere 1 have to travel in order to arrive at point b within the same time period as sphere 2? If sphere 1 and 2 simultaneously accelerate to light speed, is it possible for sphere 1 to keep up with sphere 2? If electric and magnetic fields are oscillating on curved paths orthogonal to the direction of propagation, how do they reconcile the necessary difference in speed needed to keep up with the wa…

Hi all, I am curious if a screen tent would provide any protection from a lightning strike. The screen would have to be metal, and would have to continue through the roof. I realize this is not how most screen houses are built. One reason I ask is because I am planning on building a camper trailer. My current trailer has metal siding which gives me some peace of mind during a thunderstorm. I am thinking about using fiberglass on my next build but don't want to have to worry about being struck. I thought about putting a layer of metal screen in the fibreglass. What do you think? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

In how many ways can a Biologist use Physics to understand the details of life? In Neuroscience which is my first major, the Nervous system uses electromagnetic forces among other things to navigate, send and release signals back and forth. Obviously my knowledge of Physics is very limited and I'm yet in community college so I don't understand much about Neuroscience yet.. Though I do a lot of reading. But how does physics relate to Biology in other ways??

I think the reason why scientist have never been able to observe an electron between the quantum orbitals is because, electrons are possible moving as fast as light itself. We assume that electrons and light photons have many same qualities. Well why can't we assume that electrons are also moving at the speed of light? In the de Borglie's wavelength formula w = h/mv Velocity is given as a variable, though can't we assume that since the properties of both an electron and photon can be measured with the same energy constant. "h" = 6.626 x 10 ^-34 J per S... That they may essentially have the same velocity at around 3.00 x 10^8 m/s??? The only difference maybe that the "m" …

  18. So this star system is sapposed to be the best test for general relativity we have? How could this break the equivalency principle, what we we look for to see this? Side question - Why does general relativity break down at some point under quantum mechanics or not agree with quantum mechanize? i've been reading this claim alot. http://www.nature.com/news/massive-double-star-is-latest-test-for-einstein-s-gravity-theory-1.12880 http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-01/06/triple-star-system

  19. I am looking to build a "fire place" of sorts. I need to use a solid material around the heating unit/fire that can absorb heat and slowly radiate it for a long period of time. I know there are masonry heaters that does this well. They mostly use refactory bricks (fire bricks). Is there any other material that would be even better? Any particular stone, or stone composite that would be better? What about the possibility of manufacturing a stone composit with better properties than those already in ecistence?

Hi guys, I have two questions for you. 1- We understand electrons as popping in and out of existence in a field of possibilities, but is it also how we understand their behavior when they are not part of an atom? 2- Atoms can share electrons, but as they pop in and out of existence, and are never at the same place, how could they bind two atoms? ***sorry for spelling mistake of "behavior", looks like I can't edit the title. ***Looks like it's not a mistake after all, just not very American.

  21. Galileo believed that things like color, texture, odor ect only exist in our consciousness and are created by our sensory organs. He also felt this applied to heat, as it doesn't exist but is merely felt. Are these beliefs still endorsed by the scientific community today or have they played a part in modern science?

  25. Ok now this would be completely useless and inefficient in our atmosphere. Would it work if produce lift to have two arms rotating around a rod both going opposite directions to reduce effects of torsion. When spinning they would lengten on the top side and shorten on the bottom side. This would cause an inbalance where centrifigual force would pull upwards moreso than downwards..... in a vacumm could this produce more efficient propulsion than a rocket. An of course you cannot simply use props because there is no air to push against.... if this worked would it also seem to defy laws of physics?? What would be the opposite and equal reaction that creates this propulsion?
