  1. Can you sum up the process of how to go about it? Also how does one go about selecting a topic for it?

Hello everybody, I am working on a non-profit project which will let any student get free books and self-educate with ease. Throughout my life I found that self-education is one of the best things you can do to improve yourself and I want to make it a more common thing, thus why I created a forum-like place where everybody can learn with entertaining videos from many creators and a PDF library that will contain all of the educational books from all over the globe in as many languages as possible. And ofcourse this project is not very easy for a 16 year old kid so I decided to post here for help. May you help me with: 1. Finding education books (or online librar…

Best tips to solve physics problem Don't panic, students always panic towards a given problem on physics, because physics seems to carry with it this aura that it is difficult to solve. I will give you few tips to solve any given physics problem. 1.Be calm:Take a deep breathe, don't rush the situation, try to understand the situation. Take advantage of it, and you can have an amazing impact solving that problem. 2.Critical Reading:Learn to go through a given question before ever attempting to solve. Understanding the question, will give you the mental picture of what you are about to face. 3.Don't be skeptical:Lack of self belief and confidence,…

  5. So, I have a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications (outside of US) and I wanted to pursue work in nuclear fusion so I had applied for an MS in nuclear engineering in the US. I have gotten admission in the University of Florida. Anyway, I was sharing this information elsewhere on the internet and one participant of the discussion said that with my background, I would be suited to instrumentation and control. I want to know will I be able to pursue a career in nuclear fusion or would it be wiser to do as that person suggested and go into instrumentation and control? Personally, I love being within STEM and I would love to just be able to innovate t…

Hi everyone, I'm a junior in college, majoring in Neuroscience. I'm seriously thinking about my career after graduating. Which way do you think I would end up doing a quality research? : 1. Going to a graduate school for a combined masters degree &PhD, then doing research. 2. Going to a medical school, studying neurology and getting experienced as a doctor, and then doing research. Please let me know which one would be the best choice, considering time and money! Thanks a lot!!

Monday is not even done and I've just got my 7th "I need to interview a university professor for my school project" email. As one educator to another - I have a research lab to run, 160 of my own students to teach, a crapload of "service" duties, oh and a family outside of work to spend time with. I don't have time to talk to each of your students individually, so I'm going to end up ignoring their emails. On the other hand, a local teacher did something different. She organized 4 scientists from industry and academia to participate in a panel discussion with all 250 students from her high school. We spent an hour answering questions from the audience, followed by a …

  9. So currently, I already have a graduate admission offer I am satisified with. However, there are some other US universities (I had only applied in the US) which still have to reply. I have to respond to the offer, I currently have, soon. I am not sure what I should do in case the remaining universities do not respond in time. How should I proceed?

I am in my last year of undergrad and I am required to write a grant proposal for one of my classes that is about immunology, evolutionary parasitology, parasite-host interactions, etc. It won't actually be submitted so it doesn't need to be perfect, but it's part of my grade and I'm struggling thinking of ideas that relate to the topics covered in the class (they're not my forte). Some broad topics include parasite-host interactions, life-history factors (relating to disease), tradeoffs, etc. Any tips or ideas that I could build off of would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I'm finishing college in 4 weeks and as much as I would like to go straight to university, it's just not something I can afford right away. I plan to spend some time working and saVing, but during that time I do not want to get rusty. I'm used to being very busy, I take two full time programs and I have two part time jobs. Once school ends, things are going to slow down and I want to continue to take either free online courses, or cheap courses, or simply read textbooks of subjects in science that interest me (and could be beneficial in my field). I'm looking for suggestions to online resources, courses, and reasonably priced texts. My two fields of study are Env…

As an avid learner, I am always hungry for new knowledge. One area which interests me extremely is that of Physics. I have done intro-level physics on Khan Academy, but I want to get more advanced. I understand I will need knowledge, and potentially mastery, of Calculus, and as I am only in Pre-Calculus right now, I know I will have to learn Calculus before I am able to understand Physics better. I'm interested in mostly Theoretical Physics, especially in fields like Quantum, Particle, and Astro, and was wondering if anyone here knew if there is a path that I can take that would help me to understand and be able to participate in these sciences more. I don't mind reading …

Found some gold while reading about entropy in my physics textbook. click the link to read about Physicist Ken Libbrecht's research on snowflakes! http://www.its.caltech.edu/~atomic/snowcrystals/ excerpt from the book: (some background. enjoy ) "The incredible structures you see in snowflakes are all examples of how such crystals can form when they grow. The great variety of structures you see come about because the conditions for crystal growth are each time just a bit different. In a laboratory it is possible to make the conditions very stable, and hence to repeatedly grow the same kinds of snowflakes. These amazing structures form completely by chance, …

My 3 kids are really into science and want to create their own science lab at home to further their learning and gain hands-on experience. My youngest is in 5th grade and will be in the middle school next year. All 3 of my kids are advanced in academics and need something far more than what the school provides. Biology and chemistry are there favorite topics. Where should I start? Any resources out there to help us build our own lab? Thanks in advance!

Greetings, Ever since I started reading Gödel, Escher, Bach by Douglas R. Hofstadter my interest in logic, mathematics and physics has grown tremendously. I stumbled upon this forum through a 'certain' search engine and thought this might just be the place to ask for some advice regarding scientific books. I have not enjoyed any form of scientific education nor have I ever been in touch with it outside of my spare time. I have a somewhat basic knowledge of Mathematics (algebra, stochastic, euclid) and Philosophy (Kant, Nietzsche), but have yet to delve into the world of physics and logic. I would be delighted to find books that cover the basics of these disciplines. …

I am trying to figure out if I can take a fungal cell with a chitin cellular wall and disrupt it with a method differnet from traditional methods. Is it possible to freeze the cells (Fungus is in powder form) with liquid nitrogen, then place it inside of a blender with dry ice and shatter the cells? The powder is not able to get wet so I need a way to extract the nutrients from the cell without adding chemicals. Bead beating and and Ultrasonic methods are not acceptable methods. Any advice will help.

My Crookes tube broke (no sign of damage, but it stopped working), and I need a new one. I have a 6000 V source, but the distributors of educational setups I can find have tubes that either need a higher voltage or don't mention the required voltage. Does anyone know a good distributor of such equipment? Preferably Europe, but oversees is fine too. I know it is possible to make one myself, but I don't have an abundance of time right now. This is what it looks like:
