  1. When Science is Displaced by Falsity The much applauded and controversial 'Big Bang Theory' is not a theory. It is an hypothesis. The much applauded and controversial 'Super String Theory' is not a theory. It is an hypothesis. (Please refer, Webster's dictionary, or, any dictionary of scientific terms.) These importantly expansive misunderstandings negatively influence and handicap the entire world of contemplation at the foundations of objective thinking. These endlessly repeated misnomers sustain themselves. Calling hypotheses 'theories' is unscientific and misleading, digressive and harmful. Would I be banned - or omitted from posting - for tactfully pointing t…

  2. If global warming results in parts of the world becoming inhabitable then where will the immigrants? Presumably Europe and central america will be the least affected by climate change. So will a couple of billion extra people fit. Immigrants already have a stigma attached to them in britain and I've heard reports about problems on the US/mexico border.

I have an opinion that brains can be calibrated. Peoples brains were the first scientific instruments. Only the calibrated ones could return after travel with accuate information. A Plains Indian Scout would return and his accuracy would be critical to the tribes survival. Eastern religious orders cranked out monks and eastern science surpasses some aspects of ours now. Discipline and training in ordered, common sense thinking can let each capable mind reach its optimum abilities. Take 10 citizens on a street and let them observe a single confusing event. You will get 10 differing stories as to what happened Maybe one will describe the truth. This indi…

We've been plotting some new features for SFN and one was a sort of bookstore with all sorts of science-related books. So, I'd like to solicit ideas for science books. We should stick with the basics: books about physics, cosmology, medicine, etc. without having books that require a PhD. to understand. Things that someone highly interested in science, but without a degree in it, could sit down and read and enjoy. Suggest away.

  8. Obviously we won't be around forever, I wonder what the circumstances will be, a quick death from a catastrophic event? Maybe something that would be considered science fiction today? I wish I could travel into the future and see what society will be like.

  10. The scenario is the following. You have been given a permanent, completely unconditional salary, equivalent to that of a solidly middle class job, maybe a little above average. You pay no taxes. You can spend as little or as much as you want, however, there are several restrictions. You cannot make any investments. You cannot sell anything for money. You cannot take out any kind of loan. You can have a job, but you cannot accept any salary. You are allowed to save your money, and can access it anywhere, but you can collect no interest on it. If you think up any other loophole to increase your budget, assume you can't do that either. Also, you don't have the option of refu…

So you've popped your clogs, and as you look towards a white light you hear a deafening sigh, followed by, 'well, you may think you've lead an honest and fruitful life, but I beg to differ, as punishment you must be reincarnated as an animal, not of human traits...' The upside is you get to choose the animal for your reincarnation, but as above not a human. So what animal would you choose, and why ?

Hi all, I’d like your opinion on an idea of mine. It can be found on: http://alternativemishmash.blogspot.com. I’d appreciate your responses, be it constructive criticism, your approval, or admitting confusion. Corrections and additional knowledge will be welcomed with open arms. I don’t mind if you email or post a comment… I’m pretty desperate for feedback if you couldn’t tell. It involves renewable energy and a lot of physics, you know you want to check it out....

I was just watching the noon news today while I ate my lunch, and I almost lost that lunch when I heard a local reporter doing a story on the upcoming climate change report, which is due out tomorrow. The station had just done a report on the tsunami and was doing one of those after-story chat things with the local weather girl, and he actually suggested that the recent tsunamis may be the result of global warming. No. Really. Is it just me or are these people actually getting *dumber*?

  17. I'm an connoisseur of beer. That may be surprising, as I come from the country that brought the world Budweiser, Miller, and Pabst. My home state of Colorado is the top beer producer in the nation, thanks in part to our massively successful regional brewery Coors. But they all taste like ass. So my taste turned elsewhere. I soon developed a strong taste for the nitrogen-infused beers of Great Britain and Ireland. Guinness, Boddington's, Murphy's, Belhaven, Tetley's, Old Speckled Hen, and Wexford soon topped the list of my favorite beers. From these beers I learned that what had always been described to me as a "pint glass", wasn't. All of the above beers com…

Will Someone Please Explain to me What is and is not Spamming? 48 years ago I wrote a book. Since then I've written, published, distributed and sold out ten small press editions of that book - about gravity. It is long ago sold out and no longer for sale. I have posted a condensation of the book at http://forums.delphiforums.com/EinsteinGroupie. Problem: For example. Recently someone asked me 'WTF is gravity'? That is an excellent and enormous question. The book at issue here is an answer to that question. The question cannot be answered in three or four sentences, paragraphs or pages. It requires a (condensed) book length discussion to properly respond t…

I am flying from Sydney, Australia to Santiago, Chile in December. I will be leaving Sydney at 10am, flying east across the Pacific Ocean and landing in Santiago at 1pm on the same date. The flight is 24 hours long. How many hours of darkness will I encounter?

I was looking at one of those corporate application tests that run about 40 questions/problems that are to be complete in 20 minutes time. I noticed some obvious and not so obvious patterns in the nature of the questions, which are meant to simultaneously evaluate your honesty with your qualifications. I am absolutely fascinated with the fact that in these times a person's first interviewer is a computer! I know these forums are populated with the people who design these systems. Hence, I would absolutely love to know the dynamics this system is built on. What patterns exactly are built into them? How are the scores generated? What do they mean for the person? …

I'm am not in school. Took the semester off, and I have nothing to do. Also food storage is on sale this week (food storage is big in Utah). I want to see if I can live off of $60 for food for the month of April. Here's my plan so far (maybe I can use what I learn to help save money in the future): 25 lbs. of brown rice 25 lbs. of lentils 12 eggs 4 gallons of milk assorted fresh vegetables/fruits, mostly red cabbage and bananas I chose lentils instead of beans because they are a lost easier to cook. Are they as good as beans in nutritional value (beans and rice make a complete protein, do lentils and rice also?)? What vegetables and fruits are inexpensiv…

I have a recipe thats a soultech special [Chris Rivers alias chrisrivos from PhysOrg] I mean you guys were talking about free cookies so i thought i would give you my favorite `body and brain' building recipe! Loads of protien akin to a protein shake! Lightly fry 3 eggs with a cup of chopped onins and put them in a large bowl. Then open a large can 425gm of tuna, decant the springwater down the drain and add the tuna meat to the bowl. Then add about 150-200 grams of shreded tasty cheese to the bouwl and 500 gram can of quality whole peeled Italian tomatoes. Then toss the mixture thourghly untill the tuna and fried eggs and other ingrediens are of an even chunky te…
