Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

What is it that motivates mankind to keep making up new stories and religions? They first start out pretty simple and basic moral value systems to follow however grow more sophisticated as time progresses. Should we be expecting more religions to prop up and better and more convincing ones to be created? How can we protect our society from people who are trying to deceive and control us? There will always be people who will try to control us in the banner of religion. This is dangerous!

My name is Nathan Schmidt. I'm a computer science masters student in Idaho, USA. Almost exactly one year ago, I had an idea. This idea involved fractal geometry, recursively iterated functions, the golden ratio, and the Fibonacci sequence, and cyclic time (which, when fully developed down the road, would be consistent with the Mayan calendar) From that moment, I knew this was the most powerful idea I had ever imagined in my entire life, and based on my limited knowledge of string theory, I knew that these computer science concepts be applied directly to physics. So I took on this challenge and I began developing the concepts in precisely the same way one develops computer…

I recently tested what I call a "string motor" I thought of myself. It consisted of a spool of fishing wire with short ferromagnetic beads of string (like those in dog tags) attached at 1" to 1/2" inch intervals along the string...I placed a strong group of magnets on the floor and fed the string into the magnets standing above it...It pulled the string to it's "end" (not the whole reel yet) with no difficulty thus spinning the reel and theoretically generating electricity. Questions: Can a spool of string be made simultaneously small (compact, light) enough but the string long enough to produce a usable output of energy generation? How strong does a magnet ne…

Does religion (or just believing in anything supernatural) have any advantages for surviving? When you are looking at it from a point of natural selection? Why is the man religious?

I here people use the word talent in reference in people who can sing well, write well, or dance well. My question is whether there is something with in certain people that allows them to perform certain task better than others. Has anyone studied this scientifically?

The basic idea is that if black holes are Nonsingular rather than singular then the solutions for Einstein-Rozen bridges may be sustained. Thus spacetime form galactic clusters to correspond to the re-arranged spacetime in higher-dimensional space:

Numerology Versus Science... Hello everyone, I would like to show using pure numbers that there is strong evidence that supports the hidden variables theory so spoken about in the science world in relation to The Quantum of Action. I will also show how this simple procedure can demonstrate a more accurate result, than the Schrödinger Equation itself, and will prove to find other hidden variables, within the structures of which scientist use today to measure Special Relativity among other interest. I have read the forum rules in which states that any claim must "show" scientific proof" so I chose the Schrödinger Equation replacing the structures of the function w…

Hello All! I'm curious as to what you folks think the general nature of the Universe is like. Below I've listed some possible configurations. Pick your fave and if you so choose, explain why. If you have another that I didn't consider...Throw it in! Thanks. Position 1. If space were infinite there would be an infinite amount of space between particles. We do not observe this. If the amount of matter in the universe were infinite there would be no space between particles. We do not observe this either. Therefore the universe is not infinite. All that is is what we can be causally connected with, a large but finite amount of material that will continue…

I did this with a friend of mine the other day and was also inspired by this thread. What are some ideas/speculations that you believe, despite not being mainstream on Science Forums (please compare to SFN, only!). What's your favorite contrarian claim, that you actually believe? I'll go first 1) Cryonics is probably a good idea 2) friendly AI/ technological singularity/ transhumanism is a real possibility 3) using Bayesian analytical methods in everyday life 4) libertarian-ish political philosophy

Is it plausible that humans have evolved to alternate between monogamy and an effective polygonous system? Recent research seems to me to be building toward an association of schizotypal 'disorders' and autism with sexual selection, either of which would potentially be detrimental under feedback loop conditions. Monogamy would tend to fix autism spectrum traits in a population, which traits have been suggested to involve low mating effort and high paternal investment, whereas effective polygyny would tend to fix schizotypal traits, which conversely have been suggested to involve high mating effort and low paternal investment. There seems to be a trade off in …

I was trying to follow a post about gravity and magnetism that was just too technical for me and wondered if someone might have an idea about this question. How can an almost non-ferris asteroid such as Ida have a moon? It's must be either one of two things, gravity or magnetism. Considering where the asteroid belt is located and the complexity of its formation, it strains my mind that it can even exist. Took this link from the net. In the Gravitational Redshift process, a photon's wavelength is stretched and energy is lost by Gravitational Time Dilation, where time slowed for the photon and stretched or redshifted it's wavelength. This slowing of time would mean an expansion or stretching of space, if I'm not mistaken. Couldn't the redshift in photons due to the expansion of the universe, actually be the cause of the expansion, and not a result of the expansion, by the same processes in the Gravitational Redshift process? In other words, couldn't the energy lost by photons in our universe, due to gravitational time dilation and the consequent stretching of space, be the source of Dark Energy…

Interesting; Here is an excerpt from a piece I wrote five years ago. I seem to have a arrived at a similar notion from a different point of view (e.g. why speed of light remains the same regardless of what angle one is measuring it from...), it actually occured to me a number of years before I wrote the piece itself. You can jump to the last two paragraphs if you don't want the details of how I got there. "4. Our understanding of time is from past to future. We usually think time 'goes by', 'flows', 'flies' in a certain direction. But here is a little problem; why don't we notice/feel the other spatial dimensions X, Y, Z 'pass by' from one direction to the o…

Let’s peer through a one hundred x telescope. We’ll point it towards Jupiter. The light slows down as passes through the lens revealing a more detailed view of the information contained in light. We say that the light is dilated. Gravity also dilates light. Therefore one might conclude that: The dilation of light in the lens of the telescope is equal to the light dilation held within the gravitational membrane existing one hundred times closer to Jupiter. To further the idea; Jupiter is not producing light. It is absorbing and reflecting light that is coming primarily from the sun. The simple minded, like myself, might conclude that; the absorbed energy is…

How to make a worm hole. 1) Find an large massive object headed toward you at near the speed of light. 2)Break the speed of light velocity barrier by heading straight towards that object as fast as you can. One should be able to "sail" the collapsing "spike" of gravitaional interfierence created by the acceleration time dialation between the objects. Ofcourse you'd eventually want to hit a trajectory towards the center a "dark matter vein", extending out from your galaxie destination, as fast as you can.

B-cutting paradox about emf generation An electromotive force can be generated either by a variation of magnetic flux or by a moving conductor cutting the magnetic force lines (B-cutting). For example, in the set-up shown in the Figure 1 the bar conductor with length l moves at the velocity v cutting the force lines of the magnetic field B. The generated electromotive force is: U = B l v A current source provides a current I which will do an electrical work against U. For constant I, when the bar moves from the position a to the position b, the quantity of work is: dW(emf) = I U dt= I l B dx On the other hand, the current-carrying bar will experience a Loren…

This is could be a huge realization. Earth sits in orbit around the sun within a goldilocks zone. Life on this planet thrives best in it's goldilocks zone depending on the species. Earth sits in the outer portion of the galaxy, also a goldilocks zone. Numerically, we can count infinitely high, and we can also get infinitely small. Why is our world the size it is? Why aren't humans smaller? Because relative to all other things in physics like atoms, this is the size that fits. It's relative. Just as the earth orbits the sun in the goldilocks zone, our size is a goldilocks zone of physics. Small animals are quick and jerky, large dinosaurs are slow and lethargic. …

Hi there everyone, So I have had these theories brewing in my head for quite some time, and now I want to see what you all think of them (and to possible help fill the massive holes in them). I'm pretty sure 99% of the people who are going to read this are going to think I'm crazy as most of the people I've told have lol, but I'm looking for that 1% who will atleast look at constructively and hopefully teach me the complicated stuff about space. I'll start off with the theory that i'm most positive is true, which it my Black Hole Theory: So it all started when trying to prove my brother wrong and show him that the Earth was expanding. I …

Dears, I am investigating a way to make a perpetual motion based on permanent magnet. Below are details: 1. Tools and facilities: a. 3 annular shape permanent magnets b. 2 tiny circle permanent magnets 2. Steps to perform: a. Paste the two annular magnets together by their south poles. Their north poles are turned out b. Then paste two tiny magnets at the two sides of the annular magnets above with the north poles are turned out to make a weight c. Tie this weight with a thread and hook up as a pendulum d. Put the north pole of the remaining annular magnet near the north pole of the 2 other ones to make the thrust 3. Operation: - By…

Links removed. Does someone agree that the paradoxes are well-founded? If you agree, are you interested in doing an experiment to check the validity of these paradoxes? In case of success, the first person who does it would deserve a scientific prize. Below is the design of the experiment. Check experimentally the paradoxes about Lorentz law Although the paradoxes show the deficiency of the Lorentz force law and the differential Ampere's force law (an improvement of the Lorentz force law) has successfully solved all these paradoxes, it is however necessary to confirm this by new experiments never carried out before. The suggested experiment makes 2 rec…
