can spraying too much deodorant/anti-persp on your body cause harm other than the aluminum content. Specifically, the ant-perspirant blocking the sweat glands. If someone were to spary or apply this stuff all over their body can it cause illness or death?

  2. I’m trying to find information about the long-term effects of malnutrition on cardiac muscles. I know that emaciation weakens the heart muscle and have read of “sudden cardiac death” and increased risk of myocardial infarction, but haven’t had much luck with finding detailed descriptions/statistics. The hypothetical type of case that I’m interested in is a female who received good nutrition as a child but became malnourished and underweight around age 13, staying under recommended weight for at least five years and also having amenorrhea. (Basically, anorexia cases). How reversible is damage of this sort? Are there any specific vitamin supplements that would be esp…

I happened to walk by the TV the other day when someone was watching it. I only caught a second of the show and didn't hear the explanation for this (if there was one). Anyway, the question. It said that after a hard workout, hockey golies sit in an ice bath to remove the lactic acid from their legs. Why does this work and when should it be used? Would it be wise after any workout or just very strenuous ones or never?

I was asked this weekend for psychology class to develop a study to test the effectiveness of a drug on children with hyperactivity. This study (and the drug) aren't real, but we must remain within the guidelines of the scienetific method and ethics. Now, my plan is to have the children focus in a closed room on a monotonous task and see how long they keep working until one of a set group of actions indicative of distraction are noticed. Then, after taking the drug, the process will be repeated and I will have to look for a change in the length of time they remained focused. So, the question: I need a control group. I can't seem to come up with what I would need…

Joint Movement Technology When the human body is in anatomical position, all body segments are considered to be positioned at zero degree. Rotation of body segment away from anatomical position is named according to the direction of motion and is measured as the angle between the body segment’s position and anatomical position. 1-Sagittal Plane Movements From anatomical position, the three primary movements which occur in sagittal plane are flexion, extension, and hyperextension. Flexion includes anteriorly directed sagittal plane rotations of the head, trunk, upper arm, for…

  10. Kind of an interesting read, especially for those of us who are considering a career in medicine. -- Intoxicated By My Illness And Other Writings on Life and Death Anatole Broyard The Patient Examines The Doctor Now that I know I have cancer of the prostate, the lymph nodes, and part of my skeleton, what do I want in a doctor? I would say that I want one who is a close reader of illness and a good critic of medicine. I cling to my belief in criticism, which is the chief discipline of my own life. I secretly believe that criticism can wither cancer. Also, I would like a doctor who is not only a talented physician, but a bit of a metaphysician, too. S…

They are rampant in this area. The medical profession says it's because of antibiotic resistant bacteria. However, when mom got one following hip replacement surgery, I didn't think the procedures followed while changing her dressings were very sterile. The nurses would put on a gown and gloves, but they didn't put on a cap. One of them had long hair, and it hung down in front of her face, she would brush it back with her gloved hand. However - if she transferred bacteria from her hand to her hair, then touched her hair after she had degloved, wouldn't it be possible for her to transfer staph to another patient? (It was a surgical wing - mother had to have surger…

  14. I think it is so stupid that we have to pay outrageous prices for health care because a bunch of people are complete morons and don't take vitamins and supplements. If people took vitamin and mineral supplements throughout there lives... A( Increased productivity, healthy workers produce more and can think more and thus increase resources as a whole B( Quality of life, people have better quality of life they feel better get sick less often and can produce more. C( Lowered cost of health care, people would not need as much medical treatment because if they are sick less often and have less disorders then they would be healthier PREVENTION IS THE KEY. If…

Hi, In my day-to-day work I'm a security guard in trips (mostly children and highschool kids) and as such one of my responsabilities is being a Medic (not full, more for CPR and emergency help). Recently, I've encountered many cases of kids having fever, while their pulse was sky-high (though blood pressure was fine). I was wondering about the reasons the body is having a fever. Is it like a headache - more of a WARNING sign? or is it caused by the reactions in the body? If this is a stupid question, I'm sorry. Tell me, and I'll be ashamed of myself. btw, another related question - why does the pulse get so high when a child is having a fever? If …

Hi, i'm in high school and i'm going to do an original science project in the field of medicine and/or biology that doesn't require me to deal with living organisms. (sorry, it's not that i'm being picky. it's just that i have to deal with so much more paperwork and red tape if i deal with any animals or something possibly dangerous.) Any ideas, suggestions or tips from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've had to get IV treatments quite a bit from the hospital, and the doctors always have troubles finding my vains. The guy who put the IV in found what he said was a 'good vain' once. The next time I went he said that the vain closes after the IV treatment so he couldn't use that one again. I don't see how this could be, I mean, wouldn't you run out of vains? Was this man seriously misinformed, or does something like that really happen to vains after IV treatments?

Ok, I dont know a whole lot about thermography/ thermology, but it's less harmful than X-ray, and is good for many more things. So why isnt it being used readily in the medical world??? Dont get me wrong, X-rays are the best for detecting broken bones, or anything related to the skeletal structure, but thermology deals with circulation, and heat differentials. Its the best/ painless/ safest way to dectect cancer! (especially if your a woman, who would like her breasts not to be flattened by a mammogram.)

Hello everyone, I'm currently doing a little research on aersol & sub-lingual medication. I'm particularly interested in the medication people have to carry around with them in case of an attack (allergy, asthma, angina....) I was wondering what kind of allergy can be treated with an aerosol or sub-lingual medication & what are the name of their respective medicine. What other kind of applications aerosol & sub-lingual medicine have even if they are marginal? If you have any information on the subject or if you could point me out to good online database it would be very appreciated. Thank you
