Just a question about fluoridated anti-cavity mouthwash. The instructions say to swish for 1 min, not to swallow any, and not eat or drink for a period of about 30 mins afterward. They don't say whether you should or shouldn't rinse your mouth out with water after using mouthwash. Is this a sensible precaution to avoid swallowing some, or does it largely nullify the protection due to its not having the 30 mins sitting on your teeth?

I want to quit but am unable to do so...maximum I can quit is for a week but after that it becomes unbearable to stay away. Please help!!! Does anyone have an opinion of the subject of colloidal liquid minerals? The famous or infamous Joel Wallach was promoting liquid minerals from his web site. He is known for his tape recording "Dead Doctors Don't Lie". "There are 90 nutrients essential to human health. A common recommendation made by most medical doctors is that in order to get all the nutrients necessary to maintain health you must, on a daily basis, eat food from each of the four basic food groups. Dr. Joel Wallach challenges this belief and highlights the reasons why it is practically impossible to get all the nutrients necessary to achieve and maintain opitimal health by eating food from the fou…

This came up in a conversation I had with a medic student I know... in a lot of TV shows, defibrillation is used to revive flatliners. According to Wikipedia, this is not done in real life, and we understand why that is. My friend suggested that it might actually work, as a similar method is used to restart hearts during transplants (albeit by directly shocking the heart rather than the chest). Can anyone settle this for us?

Hi all, 1. I was thinking last night of an awful situation I had a couple years back where I had drunk far too much alcohol.. then I thought: surely there's a better way of flushing it (without radical medical procedures like stomach pumping) out of the body than just "waiting it out" whilst someone is in such a state.. If Bob is highly intoxicated with alcohol after a good night out (that happened to go a little turbo..), could he consume a diuretic substance in addition to a good quantity of water to catalyse the flushing process? (Kind of a #2 but related to alcohol): Also, would use of a stimulant help reduce some of the alcohol's depressant effects? If both…

I read this yesterday in the newspaper, just to let you guys know if you haven't read about it yet. "Drinking hot tea may cause throat cancer, Iranian researchers said Friday, suggesting people should let steaming drinks cool before consuming them. Previous studies have linked tobacco and alcohol with cancer of the esophagus, and the research published in the British Medical Journal suggests that scalding beverages may also somehow pave the way for such tumors. Drinking very hot tea at a temperature of greater than 158 degrees was associated with an eight-fold increased risk of throat cancer compared to sipping warm or lukewarm tea at less than 149 degre…

If some country (not pointing any fingers...yet) were to weaponize a virus, like say, ebola, how would they do it? Moreover, how would it be unleashed and how effective would it be? Do you think that it would be more deadly than chemical or nuclear warfare? It seems to me that biological weapons are much more efficient, deadly, and they don't leave quite as much of a mess as several thousand miles of dead, irradiated soil. I'm not entirely familiar with the process of weaponizing and spreading of a virus, so I'm curious. Any insight?

So I have been straining my mind for a science fair idea since august and have just now came up with a good idea. I was planning on studying the effects of addiction in mice. My idea is to get 9 mice and place them into 3 different cages and assign them each different numbers, A1 B1 C1, ect. I would then fill 3 different syringes with 2 addictive substances and one placebo ( Nicotine, Alcohol, and a saline/glucose solution). From then i would inject each of the three in A intramuscularly with a small dose of a chemical, B with a moderate dose, and C with a larger dose at a specific time each day for a few weeks, all the while trying to keep myself blinded from which mouse…

Someone I know mixes eritromycin with clear epoxy and paints the hull of his boat, a kilo in 10 litres. Says lasts over 10 years, with nothing attaching/growing on it. Any compound that would have the same effect ? At my location, antibiotics are not sold freely. Don't know if 'equivalent' can be twisted towards some kind of poison that could be a marine life permanent danger. The confinement status of a non decaying killer/contaminant product in epoxy can be arguable, I understand.

I've been looking into the chemistry of known treatments for scarred tissue. I'm particularly interested in Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic Acid), Beta Hydroxy Acids, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, any and all vitamins and Collagen. This is a diverse list and yet they are the main focus, as to my understanding, of substances used to treat scarred tissue. I'm looking into the mechanism which guide the use of these substances in treatment. For example, Glycolic Acid is used as both a general exfoliant and also a deep tissue skin peel. It is known to have the properties of softening skin and also reducing wrinkles. The means by which this is accomplished is through the breaki…

Should a vein become exposed to the exterior of a human body and the skin where to heal around it what would happen to the vein? Would it do the opposite of what a foreign object would do and actually bury itself back into the body? Would it just continue to reside on the exterior of the body? Why would this happen in the first place:rolleyes:..........chirurgie........don't ask:-)!

As I understand it, some diseases are hiding in a latent state and become activated by stress. If it were possible to temporarily mimic stress, it might be possible to bring them out of hiding while the immune system is strong rather than weakened. Alternately, if it were possible to mimic not being stressed, then it might be possible to get them to hide when the immune system is weak. What do you folks think?

This is topic is based on an account a friend told me about, whom I had not seen in many years. He was playing soccer and tore something in his knee. It was hard to walk because of the knee pain, so he consulted a doctor to schedule surgery. The first date just so happened to coincide with his planned honeymoon in Belize, so he and his doctor agreed to do it after he got back. The doctor gave him a cane to hobble around. One of the things he and his new wife planned to see in Belize, where Mayans ruins. He was afraid to climb the steep stairs to one of the temples, since he didn't trust is leg. He was content to wait at the bottom. The tour guide, who was this short…

Hi. This all started when I was about 10 or 11. I always yawn (sometimes It's even hard to make a complete yawn) and deep breathe. Like if I don't have enough air in my lungs. Now I am 14 and It still continues. Also It seems like it's hard to breath only when I think about it. When I do something (homework or some important job) I forget about it and it gets OK. Maybe my brain "forgets" to breath normally or something?? Also when I turn my body up-down, left-right I hear very strange sounds from my lungs. Like if all the air there comes out. When I told about it to my parents they said like - "don't worry about it. You will get used with it Can anyone tell me what to d…
