I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed listening to this as a teenager. And how much almost all my schoolfriends didn't.

 

Nice, haven't listened to Hindemith in a while.  My wife, an oboist, played several Hindemith pieces including his famous oboe sonata.  

He was part of the Nazi brain drain, fled to the US.  The US has always benefited from fascists, at least in how they drive many of their brilliant people to our shores.

That's impressive! One reason I never got around to performing the full Trumpet Sonata in public was the difficulty in finding a pianist prepared to take on the accompaniment. But I never felt I'd truly mastered the solo part either so probably just as well.

Maybe it's just coincidental that Wernher von Braun attended his music class but to my mind Hindemith's standard text on music theory (Craft of Musical Composition Book 1) would be better understood by music students if they had a reasonable grounding in physics. It reads very much as a Standard Model of Pitch Intervals.

Kid definitely went down to the crossroads.  Gave a lesson.  

Well, virtuoso guitar on a bit less pyrotechnic level, but still very fine picking, is Junior Brown.  (check out the change at around 5:00, should be very familiar to UK members)

Need to make small correction.  Secret Agent Man was not played as the opening theme of Danger Man in the UK, only with the US release of the series alternately titled Secret Agent.  In the UK, a different theme opened the show.*

I'm a Fleck fan.  Hidden Land I listened to quite a bit back in the 00s.

*later, the secret agent was gassed, abducted to a village, and squeezed by a malevolent weather balloon.  That sequel series was my favorite show in my early teens.

That was "The Prisoner" in the US, great show with a lot of social commentary. The Lotus he drove was pretty nice, too, if you like cars.
