  1. What an excellent and entirely valid / relevant observation. Many may be leaving to push rightward toward the “Patriot Party.” Registrations to the GOP surged in many states when he won the primary in 2016. People wanted to join “the Trump Party!” and many of them are likely now just reverting back to their previous baseline state.
  2. Reaping what they’ve shown for many years. They created this monster that’s currently eating them.
  3. How does what work? You don't seem to be aware that sometimes books contain untruths. Now, you may consider yourself informed. Lots of books contain lots of bullshit. You're not gonna find a way to make yourself taller other than buying shoes with heels. Stop trying, or you'll just get taken advantage of by hucksters and snake oil salesmen, or worse... hurt.
  4. That's exactly what they've been doing for the last 2 hours. Given that you posted this 21 minutes ago, I'm not sure how you've missed it.
  5. The human tendency of applying simple narratives to explain often complex topics, amplified by the way we tend to defer to charismatic tribal elders and align ourselves with the social expectations of our local group.
  6. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
  7. Yeah, we know how this vote will go so it looks like part of the process is making it as difficult as possible for the GOP to acquit... and making them look as bad as possible for doing so. Separate, but related... Registrations in the Republican party (where tracked and publicly available) are plummeting rapidly. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/10/us/politics/republicans-leaving-party.html While that's reassuring news, I also read a study yesterday or the day before suggesting that fully 70% of republican voters around the US will passionately / without any doubt vote AGAISNT any Senator who votes to hold Trump accountable... Basically, a decision by GOP Senators to do what's right and what's obvious here is equally a decision to end their political career. That obviously tempers the hope I feel at the mass exodus in party registrations I previously referenced. The outcome would surely be different were it a secret ballot (like they did when deciding whether or not to remove Liz Cheney from House leadership).
  8. There are also books saying that little boys can fly around on dragons and that orcs live in middle earth. Books can say anything they want, and often say untrue things so long as there's a market of people willing to spend their money to buy books saying those untrue things.
  9. Will you please elaborate on what this question means? "Believe in" religion. Of course religion exists. I may not support it or offer faith to their claims, but "believe in religion" doesn't parse for me and hoping you will clarify.

I'd probably ask a student named Hussain to do it for me. That way, he could use his time to work through it and learn something instead of me doing it for him. More here:
  11. There’s literally no precedent here. Do I bump this thread to discuss the 2nd impeachment of a US president who will almost certainly be acquitted an unprecedented 2nd time by spineless GOP Senators, or is a new thread more appropriate? [/rhetorical] The Democratic House managers have IMO been doing a phenomenal job, but reliving the insurrection yesterday and today whilst watching them make their case has made clear for me that one of my favorite parts of the Biden presidency thus far is being able to watch the evening news again without it so deeply torturing me.
  12. Exactly. It's also been criticized for using an outdated framework on how to calculate job movements in the modern economy. However, even if it's perfectly accurate, it still shows that it would improve the lives of nearly 40 million people, and bring a million out of poverty completely, even if a million or 1.5 would be displaced from their current positions over 5 years. As a sense of scale, we saw 21 million jobs lost in 2020. One million is a lot, but also a lot less than we've faced many times.
  13. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report suggesting that raising the minimum wage to $15/hr would likely lead to a loss of about 1 to 1.5 million jobs over the next 5 years, with a parallel reduction in poverty for 1 million people... all with the understanding that these are estimates and that predictions are hard, especially about the future. https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2021-02/56975-Minimum-Wage.pdf
  14. Focusing your efforts on self-confidence and acceptance of yourself will be far more beneficial than seeking out quack efforts to change your height, none of which will work in a meaningful way.

Why do you answer questions with questions? You’re not Socrates.

It used direct current instead of alternating 🙄
  19. You misspelled Trash Can
  20. Basically, yes. Tendons and muscles. The bones are just the structures underlying it all. They’re like pieces of wood coming together at common points. The muscles, tendons, and ligaments then act like giant rubber bands pulling this direction and that, stretching across those bones, and often opposing each other between resting and flexing states. Also, as you mention... it all really is pretty flimsy. This is why so very many people experience shoulder and knee trouble as they age, and hips too... or why were so easy broken after accidents and impacts.

  22. Sorry about your friend having to pass, mate. I’ll tip a glass your way later this evening.
