But bear in mind you would prob need new rear mech, new shifter, new wheel - all for two more gears?

Thanks. Yeah, I like spending money on it. I like modding things to my taste and fit even if it makes no financial sense. It's my pleasure pursuing my idea of functional perfection. I wouldn't go as far as, say, buying Ultegra stuff. Being a gear tart is not what I'm about but I do like things to work the way I want them.

I know you hate them but I've just put the best Clarkes Brake setup on my bike and they great; very responsive and reliable;much better than the Shimano brakes that were on it... they were only low-end ones though.

  2. My big brother died yesterday in a bike accident in his beloved Lake District. I might be a little distant for a while

If you like sci-fi, you can't go wrong with enders game. Theirs a second one I think i'll be getting around to reading it soon.

Better late than never but I suggest the Gaean trilogy by John Varley. Outrageous genetic engineering in Science fiction.

Will give Varley a bash. I loved Enders Game. Audiblized (I know it doesnt exist) Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon as well - good fun

You are either very fit or motorised (or both!).

I guess you could outrun the police with a push-bike in the Metropolis!

    3. imatfaal

      imatfaal

Not motorised - don't feel very fit either! Legs nearly seized up this morning due to cold and wet - but then it is the 6th of July so what should I expect - Sun??

      Joatmon

Not being totally logical I never considered (or neither!) lol. I was given an electric bike as a present a couple of years ago - but being retired it only comes out now and again on a nice day.

It's a sad fact that the easygoing people who would be smart, insightful, and tolerant politicians aren't very good at telling people what they need to do. For that, you need a bunch of idiots who think they know best.

    3. DrP

      DrP

I think it searched for Homeopathy and found that the highest percentage of answers to that question were 'BS'. So it spouted it out - they had to adjust it. lol.

      imatfaal

brilliant. it's right and it's about the only thing on TV which is brave enough to say that Homoeopathy is bullshit

Yes I was being facetious and tried to use an amusing example. Setting up the bench in a certain way just did not have the same ring as a ritualistic sacrifice, but would look similar to the observer (and blood was actually involved).

Reading about him, the US army should never had deployed him or allowed him access to the data. That said, they did and he became a traitor. I am not sure if he should be in a mental hospital or shot.

      too-open-minded

Mental hospital or shot? He uncovered war crimes, unless i'm misinformed. His sexual orientation is irrelevant if that has anything to do with your statement in my opinion.

    4. ajb

      ajb

"His sexual orientation is irrelevant if that has anything to do with your statement in my opinion." Actually, it may have some relevance, but not in the way you imply. This individual had lots of emotional and psychological issues. This I am sure played a big role in what happened. In my opinion the US army should never have deployed him, but then hindsight is 20-20.

I can tell you this from experience. If you are in hospital with a catheter fitted leading to a container on the left side of your bed its a very bad idea to jump out of the right side of the bed when the nurse comes round with the bedtime drink! Tears in your eyes doesn't come near!

I feel like culturally the general population values general consumer products more so than education. Yeah in a sense we're taken advantage of, their's the elite tyrants who turned college into a profit center. Among many other things. But the general population doesn't care, it's partly our own fault.
