This thread should be used to post your favourite theorems, not only their names, but also what they state. Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic Each integer greater than 1 can be expressed as a product of primes, and, except for the order in which these primes are written, this can be done in only one way. and Central Limit Theorem If [math]X_1,...,X_n[/math] are independent identically distributed, with mean [math]\mu[/math] and finite variance [math]\sigma^{2}[/math], then [math]\bar X[/math] is approximately [math] N(\mu ,{{\sigma ^2 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\sigma ^2 } n}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} n}) [/math] for large n, no m…

As we all know that multiplication of a number by zero results in zero. What happens if zero is multiplied by infinity

  5. On my site www.constructorscorner.com I have found a way to break any triangle into 2 right triangles and solve it knowing only 2 sides. I know it sounds unlikely and it could be wrong, but if you go to the homepage you will see 2 trig parabola pdf downloads. The ideas need refined to be simpler, but if you read it all the idea is there. You may also be interested in my math section under the title bar --- ideas and gadgets. Trurl

If asked if -0 =0 one would say yes. But I don't think that is the case. It is quite simple. If you divide a number by 0 your answer would be infinity. So if you divided a number by -0 you must have an answer of -infinity. So somewhere in 0, it must have a value but how can it? There symbol represents that there is no value to it. Could it be that 0 doesn't exist? Well that is impossible for it not to exist because one could say, "What is the answer to 10 - 10"? Is 0 a paradox or is it infinity and an infinitesimal at the same time?

Hey all. I am trying to figure something out that I can't. Basically, for some reason I wanted to find the inverse of y = x7+x5. How the heck would you do that. I know it is probably possible, but how?

  8. In classical constructions with ruler and compass, a construction proceeds from point to point where the points are intersections of lines and circles, i.e., where the lines and the circles cross each other. Are the points where the lines and the circles touch each other rather than cross, allowed as well? More specifically, if I have constructed two circles and I know that they touch at some point, can I proceed with the construction using this point?

  10. This is not to say that there were will be times when this happens, but what if it does happen? Would it show Mathematics to have flawed axioms? Or would it simply reveal loop holes within assumed axioms of mathematics? What other consequences would occur?

Just in attempt to understand probability better, what if you are a 50 percent shooter, but you only count every other shot. Are the odds exactly the same, however you select your 100 consecutive shots that count, or does alternating the ones that count allow for a greater probability that the misses and hits will alternate, and you might count a greater number of hits, or a greater number of misses in a row?

Do points lie on tangents lines "only?" From: "The slope of the tangent" Or on the curve itself?? If it's not on the curve, then: Where did that curve come from?? I'm not getting the ideas behind the following. ( x + delta h) I'm very familiar with linear equations but this does not clarify tangent points and the "fancy" albegra doesn't explain the evolution of time either cuz it sets everything at 0... Are these Points Hyper Planes?? Light Cones?? Faster Than Light Speeds?? N Gons?? Oragami?? ----->Standing Waves Maybe???

  14. Could someone please explain to me why the following is statistically falliciouse: The prosecutor's falicy The DNA profile found at the scene matches the suspects. The probability of a randomly chosen person having the same DNA profile is calculated as 1/100. So... if the suspect left the DNA at the scene of crime, the probability that the DNA from the crime scene matches the suspects DNA is 1. If some random person left the DNA at the scene of crime, the chances of the DNA matching the suspects is 1/100. Therefore, the fact that the DNA from the crime scene matches the suspect's is 100 times more probable if the suspect left the DNA at the crime scene t…

In your opinion, what equations, solutions, or sets are the most elegant math equations ever solved or conceived of? Personally, I like Euler's identity. That is, e^(i*pi) +1 = 0. The way it is proven is also something to marvel at too, since it comes directly out of complex analysis.

If numbers have a beginning witch is one they necessarily have an ending If they don't ..... Is the problem in the way we address or write numbers ? Let say numbers are a circle 1 is a rayon in a circle 2 is a diameter 3 is 3 rayon dividing the circle in equal surfaces 4 is 4 rayon ..... etc In the end we are going to draw a disk But when? When are the surfaces between rayons are going to be equal to 0? One day for sure Conclusion : Infinity doesn't exist and numbers begin with 0 which is a centre in the circle And the infinity? well its calculable but how much exacly? Is it Allah (1665) that the Muslims..etc worship? And what is the obvious way to get…

As an addition to all current field axioms. "For every A in S there exists a z1 and a z2 constituting A. Such that any A in operation of a binary expression of mulitpilcation or divison is only representing z1 or z2. Such that z1 and z2 for all A's other than zero equal A. Such that z1 for zero equals zero. Such that z2 for zero equals 1. "

hi; I need some scientist's experiences ,my specific questions are below ; 1) do such journals care that from which (type of) journals our article's citation-references have been done (the equivalent question is whether will it be better us to cite and give references from just that journal we would submit our articles?) 2) how the ranks are being given according to this website : http://www.scimagojr.com/journalrank.php 3) does this mean that if one journal is "open access" ,then it will not be well known journal and I see we are able to make show all open access journals via using item on the website (given above) , but let think we found any journal…

  20. I want this thread to be an attempt to create a generalized overall mapping of mathematics as we know it at this current time. Its basis is that all models developed by a human is itself a model, therefore I do not want to delve to deeply into the philosophy of the subject matter, whereas I would like for this to be an overall model of existing mathematics from beginner to expert levels all explained and viewed as a general "mapping." Showing the interconnections between all of the different mathematical concepts formed which have been agreed upon. Showing all the twists and turns, all the connections, all of the branches that lead to no where. This is a big pr…

Hi, i'm having problems with this question and would appreciate it very much if someone would help me out. I've got my C4 exam in a month and none of my teachers has a clue about vectors... Referred to the origin we have 2 points points A (i-5j-7k) and B (10i+10j+5k). P is a point on AB a) Find a vectr for the line passing through AB(i got i-5j-7k+t(9i-15j-12k)) b)Find the position vector of P such that OP is perpendicular to AB. I really don't know how to do b). c) find area of triangle OAB ( i can do when i have b) d) find ratio in which P divides AB (not sure) Can anyone tell me where i can get a good guide to vectors (book or internet, etc)? It's my …
