A study in the amazon rainforest, which started back in 2002, has been observing the effects of a simulated drought by restricting rainfall on a given area. After one year the effects were minimal, after two years the roots of the trees grew to absorb water found deeper in the ground, however after a successive third year of drought the forest could no longer cope. Many plants died and obviously released carbon leading to the production of CO2 in the atmosphere. Next year will be the second successive year of drought for the amazon, and if the trend of hot weather continues the effects could be devastating, it's quite apparent the amount of carbon held in such a vast…

Do you guys think it would be possible. I personally think humans won't be able to make it possible, but maybe if there is a super advanced race. Be it the whole body travelling through time or the consciousness travelling to another version of the body? This is just a hypothetical question. I also want to know what would you do if you had the power to time travel? (I think this would be more suitable in the trash can) XD

I was reading this article about traveling back in time and some complications that may occur and there was this part about 'the bucket effect'. This basicaly means that when you travel back in time, you will bring matter with you. Just bits and pieces like Oxygen atoms, fluff ect. This is all very vague but the fact is you will be introducing more material in that place in time than what previously existed. Noone knows what would happen. Anything you send back in time would actually allready exist there in some form. If we said for arguments sake that when you send stuff back in time, it remains stable and exists as normal. This means that if it gets 'left behind' yo…

We consider much of what science has to offer and time travel is the proverbal boomerang that keeps coming back , the time machine may well have been a great work of fiction , that has no doubt inspired a generation of scientists to postulate over the possibility of eventually travelling through time. This new dimension concept or fifth dimension and multiple dimensions is a new born brainchild and a ever increasing subject of obvious popularity. We can brush the ethics aside because we know that human nature dictates otherwise , not entering into the ethical debate or the obvious dangers and chaos that would eventually ensue. Is time travel possible ? can we ex…

Hi, I am writing a little software program that displays time on the basis that a earth year is a measure of the earth making 1 revolution around the sun. In contrast to "In the year of our Lord 2004" or in contrast to another culture ideal of time. The question is what year is it? or how manyrevolutions has the earth made around the sun?

Everyone after reading this will probably think I'm crasy but 1 week ago I made notes about timelines and I think it would be nice to share it with you. A Timeline is created by a species simple decision or mental thought. Timelines multiplies simultaneously. Timelines are created inside of a multiverse. Everytime a timeline is destroyed a new multiverse is created. Both timelines and multiverse are blinded to the naked human eye. Once a multiverse is destroyed all timelines existing in it are destroyed as well. If the multiverse is destroyed that means no of the timelines survived making it positive there is no reproduced multiverse. Timelines have the save events but w…

So me and my boyfriend came to talk about this, time is affected already right outside the earths atmosphere where it goes a little slower, so the further away from gravitation, the slower time goes if I have understood it correctly, time always goes, night becomes day and day becomes night, but if we remove the idea of hours and time into an understanding like animals have, they just exist in the present, if we take lets say a deer, their lifespan can be about 14 years in captivity, if two deers get born at the same time, one is sent out into space and one stays on earth, would the space deer become 14 earth years or not? Time goes slower in space, and does that in anywa…

Once again, it has been proved that you can write a "scientifical" study about anything you want, no matter how silly it is. "Acquired growth hormone deficiency and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in a subject with repeated head trauma, or Tintin goes to the neurologist" http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/171/12/1433 Guess we got an explanation for why Tintin is... err, the kind of fellow he is. ))

So my physics teacher was telling us about a climatologist who is predicted a tipping point in the whole global warming fiasco within the next decade. Apparently some studies showed much LESS CO2 in the air than what should be there based on our emissions. Upon investigation, it was found that a large quantity of it was being dissolved into the ocean. His theory is based on the simple characteristics of gas solubility in liquid. It is known that cooler solvent can dissolve more gaseous solute. As such, he predicted a time when the rise in temperature will cause the ocean to be able to dissolve less and less of our emitted CO2 and reach a point of saturation when the ocean…

Feel free to add to this list (continuing my numbers) 1) Outrageous claims require outrageous evidence. 2) Google can answer many of your non-discussion related questions 3) If you google for a claim made by someone and can only come up with sites like zetatalk, consider the claimee braindead.

The titanic sunk because there was a large gash which whent through 4 bulkeheads, and 3 was the max to stop the ship sinking. In hindsight, would it have been a better idea to not try and avoid the iceberg, and hit it head on so that only 1 bulkhead (the front) would have burst?

  16. I had an idea. Could titanium alloy be reinforced with a high tensile strength fiber? Lower melting point titanium alloys: " Ti15Cu15Ni and the newly developed Ti21Ni14Cu. Zr-Ti-rich side of the Zr-Ti-Ni(Cu) alloy system were investigated for brazing of titanium alloys. Low-melting ternary and quaternary eutectic alloys with melting temperatures below 800°C were discovered. Using eutectic as well as off-eutectic braze alloys, CP-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloys were successfully brazed at 830°C and 850°C." These alloys show comparable strength to normal high-melting point titanium alloys. "Aluminum nitride is one of the few materials that is both a good thermal cond…

  17. Abstract The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research is revolutionizing data analysis and research capabilities. This paper explores the benefits and challenges of AI adoption, emphasizing its potential to enhance research efficiency, improve data accuracy, and drive innovation across various disciplines. By examining case studies from institutions like MIT and Stanford, we highlight successful AI implementations in research settings. Ethical considerations of AI use are discussed, focusing on the need for responsible AI adoption to ensure research integrity. Key examples illustrate the impact of AI on research practices and the importance of in…

has anyone ever heard someone say that it`s "Too cold to snow"? I know I have, and I`ve often wondered what it means, and when confronting such people with "what do you mean" you usualy get back "because it is" yeah right, some answer that is! now I`m thinking of the north or South pole here the temp is often -20 or lower and it`s like snowing all the time there! so what`s this "It`s too cold to snow" business all about? any ideas?

There are three questions I would like to pose, remembering that I am no expert: 1) Why is it not possible to create an artificial magnetsphere around a spacecraft and then focus the resulting charged ion plasma stream as a form of propulsion? 2) What effect will the changing Earth's magnetsphere have on near collision objects trajectories, like Toutatis, which have their own chaotic pole fluctuations? 3) Is it wise to allow the comet sample from Wild 2 (probe:Stardust) to land in the Utah desert in 2006 , when it could be possible for some form of life to have originated in the highly irradiated spaceways? Why not put the spacestation to a purpose for which …
