I've noticed how many anti-Bush people there are here, so I'd like to ask, what do you think Kerry will do for the US? No, not what he promises to do, what you think he'll do. And how. Don't say "he'll fix the education system" try to give a little explanation ("increase funding by yada yada" or whatever) so we can just see how feasible it is. I'm expecting a large amount of interest in this.

There has been some talk on the subject, and of course I didn't really believe any of it, but then I did some reading... First Purple Heart: From: http://www.nationalreview.com/york/york200405041626.asp Yeah folks that would be 3 to 4 MILIMETERS tenths of a centimeter, that doesn't seem like a very hurtful wound to me. From: http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnkerry.com/kerry_pur_hrts.htm It seems he agrees with me. Kerry agrees himself (from:http://www.insightmag.com/news/2004/04/27/Politics/Purple.Hearts.Three.And.Out-656749.shtml) If he was hurt... NOW WE’RE READY, MR POPE With public poetry which sets out to record, confront, and influence the external world, one must ask what is the structure of society the poet is dealing with; where does the poet stand in relation to the world of politics, religion and the broad base of values and beliefs; what channels of communication and social definition are available to the poet; in what ways is social change affecting his position and his poetic response to society and how does the personal and professional life of the poet affect his place in the poetic order and in the wider flux of life in society. -Ron Price with thanks to Isabel Rivers, The Poetry of Conservati…

I know there is a thing called free expression, but it still says something when one of their political cartoons says "smart words - crush America and wipe Israel off the face of the earth". I can't link it but you can just go to the site http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage and it is on the bottom of the page (Cartoons the one about samrt bomb-smart words). Am I wrong in thinking that this is the epitome of hatred through words? Once they get a nuke it will be "delivered" to Israel and then Israel will drop their nukes and then...........

Imo, capitalism works best with lots of competition, and the bigger businesses get, the less competiton there is. One of their biggest threats is their influence in politics. Any thoughts on how we can curb this unfair influence?

source = http://www.nature.com/news/2004/040927/full/040927-4.html If all goes according to plan, by early October SpaceShipOne will have become the first privately funded spacecraft to have carried a pilot and the weight of two people to 100 kilometres above Earth's surface, returned safely, and then repeated the journey within two weeks. Those are the criteria that must be fulfilled for SpaceShipOne to claim the US$10-million Ansari X prize, donated by private benefactors "to jumpstart the space tourism industry". There is a respectable tradition of scientific innovations being stimulated by cash prizes. French industry offered the rewards that prompted Jea…

I thought it was a good debate. Much better than had been predicted. I thought Kerry won on style, and Bush won on substance, but both victories were marginal. Bush got a little too argumentative and gave Kerry the "smoothness" victory. But what counts more with me is substance, and there the only flaw I could see in Bush's arguments was when he was a bit hung up on justification for Iraq. For the most part Kerry was unable to punch a hole in Bush's armor, and Bush showed strong on foreign policy knowledge (what a contrast with four years ago!). There was only one point that Kerry made that Bush was unable refute, but Bush put up at least three that I coul…

This is just a different take on the electronic voting controversy. It's not really very thought-provoking, I suppose, just another perspective. We tend to forget about handicapped folks in the e-voting debate, and they have a valid point about not wanting to go back to the chads. I really had no idea they had to jump through such hoops to vote. So this doesn't drive any nails in any coffins in the larger debate, but it's worth considering. http://news.bostonherald.com/election/view.bg?articleid=47204

Starting Tuesday night and split over three days. (O'Reilly airs on Fox News Channel weeknights at 8pm Eastern time, re-running at 11pm and 4am. Not sure how that varies by time zone.) To some extent it'll be softball, but I expect a few interesting questions. More to the point, you will not likely see any more challenging questions asked of the president between now and the election. (From what I've seen of the debate format, that's looking pretty tame as well.) He's reportedly trying to get John Kerry in for a similar interview.

Hey guys: I dunno how many of you really care about voting.. anyway, I found out this site through Universal talking about this contest "Rock the Vote". This contest is supported by many famous artists such as Nelly, Toby Keith, Mesa, Nina, etc. All you need to do is go to the site and registered online and it only takes like 3 minutes. Here is the good part, after you registered, you have a chance to win great prizes like "PS2, Sony Walkman, Free download music, Autographed guitar or Cds, etc." I thought i would share with you guys.. u never know when your luck is coming, right? http://www.gotdownloads.com/rtv/

Kerry says he'll stay and send more troops. But there seem to be quite a few reasons to think he'll do otherwise. - He's insulted our alliance partners, calling them the coalition of the coerced and bribed (or something like that) - His campaign manager called the interim PM of Iraq a "puppet", which seriously undercuts Chalawi's ability to govern right now (probably getting huge airplay on Al Jazeera and Iraqi TV) - His statements that he'll send more troops to Iraq are contradicted by his statements that he'll "end the back-door draft" of guard/reserve deployment - He's actually said (if I remember correctly) that he thinks we should pull out within six months …

I've not seen much about this either because it's really new or people just aren't interested, but: - http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20040928%2F0515512476.htm&sc=1104&flok=NW_5-L2&floc=NW_1-T http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/3696092.stm Seems pretty significant to me.

Politicians need to start listening, or be made to listen to scientific data. Think about it for a second, its like allowing a young man (politician) to drive a car off of a cliff killing all passengers inside, while the older adult (scientist) was powerless to stop him because the kid choose not to listen to his warnings. Serriously speaking scientists understand what changes need to be done in order to secure the human race from eventual extinction. If we continue to let the politicians make the laws and not the scientists, then the human race is destined for extinction.

Last night on Bill O'Reilly, Richard Holbrooke, Kerry's likely choice for Secretary of State, said that there was "no way" the US could allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, and that a military response must be considered if diplomatic solutions fail. He also pointed out that the Israelis would likely not allow it, and that the US has sold 300 "bunker buster" weapons to Israel, which they don't exactly need to go after the Palestinians.

Here's Bill Blum, author of Killing Hope: US Military & CIA Interventions Since WWII, and other stuff. http://www.killinghope.org Democrats It gives me no pleasure to tear into the Democrats, as I've done on several occasions in this report, because I sorely wish there was a viable alternative to Bush. Kerry is viable, but he's not an alternative, particularly on foreign policy where his views are indistinguishable from those of George W. Ralph Nader is an alternative, but he's not viable because the entire electoral process is designed to make life impossible for third-party candidates. Dennis Kucinich presented himself as an alternative, but it's no exaggeratio…

Newsweek has a story that's amusingly ironic in the wake of Memogate: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6073449/site/newsweek/ In a nutshell, they're saying that CBS News and 60 Minutes had originally intended to air a different story on September 8th. The story in question involved those allegations put forth by the Bush administration just before the Iraq war that Iraq was attempting to purchase 500 tons of uranium from Niger during the embargo period. It turned out that those documents were forged, but there's been little progress since then on figuring out who created the forgeries, etc. Apparently CBS News had latched on to a break in the case and was going to report o…

NewScientist is running an article describing a radio signal from space that SETI has picked up. Signals had been detected in that region in the past, but the they had not been confirmed. Last year the telescopes were again pointed at the constellation to monitor the signals. Scientists have just finished analyzing the data and have eliminated all but one signal which has increased in strength. The radio signal has been detected on three separate occasions. They are trying to rule out natural causes, unknown phenomena, radio interference, telescope anomalies, etc. One astronomer points out that the signal's frequency drifts, which seems to indicate it is rotating li…

This is a topic I've been thinking about for some time. It seems that police officers are above the law. I want to mostly focus on traffic law. Now, understandable that a police must be able to exceed the posted speed limit in order to respond to certain calls, and this is not what I take issue with. My problem is what seems to be a growing number of police who seem to misuse there power, and vehicles, for their own entertainment, or just to get from A to B quicker. Example. Just last night my friend and I went to Huddle House around 2 am. When we left, we were heading west on highway 64. We noticed a cop approaching rather quickly behind us, blew through…

Biologists in india have found what is claimed to be a 130 million old species of frog. "The seven-centimeter long amphibian hopped around the feet of dinosaurs. Researchers say the small-headed critter belongs to a new family of frogs thought to have disappeared millions of years ago. Scientists estimated the frog family tree split about 230 million years ago. The discovery suggests this frog branched off 130 million years ago when Gondwana lost its eastern end. " The species is described in this week's Nature. Read the full news article here.

Not a theory....an explanation for logical minds: WHY GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORLD’S LEADING TERRORIST! Analysis by TvNewsLIES.org "Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." - US Federal Bureau of Investigation Read the sentence carefully. You didn’t hear it on any corporate media newscast since 9/11. It’s the official US FBI definition of terrorism. In its official definition, the FBI does not limit terrorism to stateless individuals or groups. In its official definition, the FBI do…
