I'm looking for a laptop computer, and I think I found a good one, but I would appreciate your opinions on it or other options. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115675 This is really pushing my budget, but I'm hoping for a holiday deal sometime soon. Some of the things I'll be doing are game programming, surfing the web for educational material, and some gaming. Since gaming will be the most difficult of these tasks for it to perform, I decided to use a laptop's ability to play games as the decision maker.

A bit superficial for this crowd but I thought I'd pass it along just for the general interest of it. It's mostly stuff along the lines of "what do CERN scientists eat" and so forth, but hey you never know where motivation can come from. http://crave.cnet.co.uk/gadgets/0,39029552,49304408,00.htm?tag=mncol;txt My favorite bits:

When I was in elementary school I thought up the greatest invention of all time, an infinite rebreather. Now that I know a bit more about physics I am realizing that with today's technological restraints, it is nigh impossible. But it was and still is fantastic all the same. Simply, it separated water into hydrogen and oxygen, I assumed that the oxygen would bind to itself forming O2, secondly I knew that hydrogen was used in fusion. So my thought was that if i could make a small reactor, i could use that to power the invention, what would be required is an infitessimally small fusion reactor and an electrolysis apparatus etc. Both of which would be "hard" to come by.…

Am I correct to say that matter only contains -- instead of is -- energy? If so....the reason for this poll is get an idea of how many people actually once thought the reverse, incorrectly -- with energy as some real (but insubstantial) thing in air or space, visible only in the form of lightning or detectable as photons?

Brer Fox & the Tar Baby - A Sticky Object Lesson THE MALICIOUS ABUSE OF INNOCENCE Pt I ----------------------------------------------- “Conformist group aggression: the most common, the most dangerous, and the most difficult to prevent.” – Eric Fromm, The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness (“He’s about to expose the KGB, the FBI, the CIA, and himself!” “How do you tell anyone about a thing like this?” “That’s easy. You just tell ‘em the truth”. “Oh. I see. You’re gonna write fiction”. - Dialogue between Glenda Jackson & Walter Mathheau excerpted from the movie: Hop Scotch.) This monologue regards a formerly close friend of Truly Yours, who …

Ok in my recent test I lost many marks by not trusting my first instinct. I just argue with my first instinct and believe that the new thing is the first instinct. From next exam onwards questions I don't know(multiple choice) I'm going to trust my first instinct. Does this happen to you guys as well?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1230092/Patient-trapped-23-year-coma-conscious-along.html Honestly this is one of the scariest things I can imagine. I would suspect this is a fairly rare occurrence, though I am glad apparently technology is getting better at identifying such cases. I have no idea how the mind could cope with that and not go insane. Not sure what I even have to say on the topic but I felt it was worth sharing. Maybe I'll think of more to say when I am less distracted by cold shivers down my spine just thinking about it!

so i was watching National Geographic's program Explorer where they explored a Giant Crystal Cave in Naica, and watching it i saw all the scientist wonder in amazement over the giant gypsum crystals. Is it really all that suprising that there are giant crystal caves? i mean honestly, how could you not know that there are these subterranian caves? personally, i think the book Journey to the Center of the Earth isn't all that far-fetched. you have alot of area near old and new magma vents that could form such caves and we see this in the naica cave. if anything i am suprised we haven't found a Giant "ruby" Cave or other gem stones. all ruby takes is iron.. or maybe co…

now my girl and I are basicly opposites. she is hardcore into art and i'm hardcore into science. this difference over time leads to different mind sets and how we think. we seldom have debates and when we do one of us usually gets ticked off. she gets ticked at me for being to analitical and I get ticked because she seems to beleive in thing she can't explain or provide evidence for. for example she beleives in fate and that only one person in the world is right for you. i couldn't agree less and was shocked by this ridiculous idea. also i told her about some women who are high risk for breast cancer can get geneticly tested. she said that was wrong and that we ha…

Now, I've been taught since I was little to "not run in the halls" and to "quit tearing around the store", but now, I really wonder why. I mean, there are so many times that it would be SOOO much quicker to just run somewhere. Why walk for 10 minutes when you can run and be there in 5? But, when I tried this at my uni to get to my class quicker, I get looks from almost everyone as if I'm some sort of loon. So I ask all you adults, why is it that society hates people getting to places quicker? I honestly don't see how someone running somewhere is bad, or why we teach our kids not to. Any thoughts?

in the 007 film 'the world is not enough' a man is killed by exploding money. it is later explained that the money had been dipped in urea, and one of the metal strips in the money had been replaced with magnesium, and the man had a radiotransmitter on him which set it off. i am a bit sceptical and would like to know if this would work... firstly, wouldn't it need to be in a sealed container for it to explode? secondly, would the magnesium strip ingnite from a radio transmitter? and if so wouldn't it ignite from all the other radio signals travelling around MI6's headquarters?
