Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

"Atime" theory According to Einstein, all people have their own relative time. If I was traveling 0.5c on my ufo orbiting the earth really fast, and my friend on earth was sitting down, our times would vary. Lets say person A is standing next to person B. Person A has a different time than person B (insignificantly small difference, but its still a "difference"). If person A is now holding one end of a rope while person B is holding the other end, their times are still different (plus or minus 0.000000000...............1 seconds). You can think of person A as your left hand and person B as your right hand. Think of the rope as your chest connecting …

I was led to think that HIV was a man made virus by a few factors The Year it was discovered and started This is one of the areas for suspicion. Bascially as far as records go, HIV was kinda reared its ugly head in the 1950s. That was at least a few short years after the WW2. And also there were records of Nazis invading Africa in the ww2. So it's not surprising that the Nazi being homephobic and racist, would make something to cull the undesirable population apart from tankers and soldiers. The birthplace it shares with many viruses of the same nature It just too coincident that the mostly horrible or sexually/ intravenously spread diseases came from Africa. Yo…

i belive that scince the earth is an orb floating in a space, that it is not physically connected to,if materials of diffirnet calibers and uses are alll in one place and dont seem to only be capable of being used to take us to space, maybe all materials are arranged in an order from where they first appeared, so if magnets have electristy in them maybe the elctrisisty escapes and travels throught the air into the other magnet like an air hockey table,. becuase if lighting melting the ground put electrisity in it and made big deposits of metal( which is just melted dirt) then it would have holes from the air and layering and boiling and so forth which would explain why we…

How the Galaxies are Formed? Logically, what is born has to die. Usually elliptical galaxy can create after cyclonic merging of two spiral galaxies (galaxy cannibalism). huge gravitation of the giant elliptical galaxy M87 could cannibalize dwarf and giant spiral neighbor galaxies later. "Neighbor" ellipse galaxy M87 has quasar inside and gives birth fiery “small” proto-galaxies nebula-nucleuses. We can see vividly erupted proto-galaxy masses from core of M87. “Small” proto-galaxies nebula-nucleuses are creating dwarf galaxies. After eruption from quasar proto-galactic mass has enormous temperature, hundreds of millions degrees. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/a…

The Gravity Time Correlation If anyone here wants the mp3 of this you can hear it here... http://www.giftofexistence.com/gravitytime.htm Gravity and Time are interesting subjects. Einstein actually theorized that they were an intertwined system called space-time. However I have a different theorization. Please stay with me for this. Definitions are from Dictionary.com Gravity - the force of attraction by which terrestrial bodies tend to fall towards the center of the earth. Gravitation by definition is: 1. The force of attraction between any two masses. Compare 2. An act or process caused by this force. Gravitation is the definition …

Given the logistics and funding as not being an issue, this thread is for sharing ideas (even outlandish) on future methods for providing energy for Earth. You can only use known or emerging technology, and your idea has to agree with physical laws...so no perpetual motion et.c An example would be...(I haven’t thought it through) A large superconducting generator outside the Earths atmosphere, (much easier to bring to lower temperatures) and with the transmission of electricity through superconducting wires, which are liquid nitrogen cooled and have a carbon nanotube exterior, that serve as a tower for the generator...similar to the space elevator, but on a larg…

I`m putting this in here as my idea belongs on a Toxic Cuteness dump, but an idea occurred to me after reading another thread, that Since Kittens are by far the "Cutest" of all pets. would it possible to make a "Drug" or something that could arrest their physical development in such a way that they remain as Kittens? (I don`t give a damn about the "Ethics" or PETA and that garbage so keep your rants to yourself!) is it Possible?

  10. I was just wondering what the exact influences are on the scale, and not the size, of living things on Earth. Plants and animals ranging in size from the smallest insect to the largest dinosaur or whale are all still relatively close in size. Why is it that there aren't creatures orders of magnitude larger scale? or smaller scale? On a planet with higher or lower gravity, would the overall scale of life change? Is a mile-wide living creature possible? Or is the scale of life inherently based on the size of the molecules we all start with?

The classical skeptic hypothesis: You know nothing, I don't claim to know you know nothing only that knowledge itself is unattainable. To have knowledge you must be 100 percent certain of a justified True belief. I believe I am sitting typing a thread about brains in vats but I cannot be 100 percent certain because there is a small chance (Very small) that I am mistaken therefor I do not know I am sitting here typing. You can say, "Here there skeptic that is an unrealistic definition of knowledge, of course you can't be 100 percent certain." Then how can you say I know my name is X, but I am not certain... So tell me why do you think you are reading this and no…

I couldn't decide where to put this, but I guess this would probably be best. But anyway, on to the question. I was pondering on what effects putting mirrors on the entire face of the visible moon would have on the environment. I frequently wonder about stuff like this. I've already come to some conclusions, but I'll post them later. Also, first post, so be kind if I goofed something up.

First off, hello everyone, I'm Clay, and I'm stoked to be a part of the community here! I have a fairly weird question, but hopefully you can help me out with it. I'm wondering about smoking cigarettes in a spacecraft. Great first post huh? I'm asking because I'm an illustrator, and I'm currently involved in developing a short story which follows an astronaut traveling through space on a long journey. It deals with the psychology of being utterly isolated, and just because it's visually representative of that sort of melancholia, one of the images I aim to create for the story is this spaceman passing the time having a smoke. I know there's quite a bit of physi…

It is said that what killed the American Indians was not warring with the settlers but the alteration of their natural lifestyle, living off the land, as opposed to the agrarian lifestyle imposed upon them. For instance, the corn which they grew did not have enough calcium. Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price That the problem of mass degeneration constitutes one of the most alarming problems of our modernized cultures is demonstrated by the urgency of appeals that are being made by students in national and international affairs. Weston A. Price studies, firsthand, the effects of "modernization". He draw links between nutrition of the…

Parent star of our galaxy is died A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect would connect Physics, as well as Chemistry and Astronomy and Geology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about the universe but there are hidden forces too. The observational confirmations from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question. Although the scientific community's current view is that remnant core of exploded stars is pulsar (neutron star-ultra dense nucleus). It is supported by many researches. Each research where is supported Fe-rich and Ni-rich nucleus of a stars is wrong and unaccepta…

Slowing of time can explain acclerating expansion as we look from our slower time into the past distant era of faster time. However there is no need to look for exotic phenomenon. First step is to understand what is time and what causes time, then we may progress towards understand why time may be slowing.

I stumbled across this page, looking for something entirely different, and came across an entry for Anti-gravity suits... Go to the following link and scroll down. Its the first entry in the boxes http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/budget/fy2001/dot-e/accessories/01nonmjr.html What on Earth???? Is this proof that the military have been testing out such devices? Does this mean that anti-gravitonic technology does indeed exist? I mean why would the first thing you investigate be a suit? Surely this must have followed a successful craft? Thoughts please!

  21. letter 1 HH46/47 (EXPLANATION OF NASA) http://sscws1.ipac.caltech.edu/Imagegallery/image.php?image_name=ssc2003-06f This image from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope transforms a dark cloud into a silky translucent veil, revealing the molecular outflow from an otherwise hidden newborn star. Using near-infrared light, Spitzer pierces through the dark cloud to detect the embedded outflow in an object called HH 46/47. Herbig-Haro (HH) objects are bright, nebulous regions of gas and dust that are usually buried within dark clouds. They are formed when supersonic gas ejected from a forming protostar, or embryonic star, interacts with the surrounding interstellar medium. These …
