Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. Just in case you think no-one's got any understanding of the new quantum world: ...And still bouncing

Ok, this was an idea I came up with one day while being sick. If you were to put a mechanical/chemical object down in say a body of water, say 100 feet down. Say you had it explode releasing a fine mesh of carbon nanotubes(I added the tubes recently) holding together a hydrophobic gel. Could the pressures along with the mesh hold a dome of the gel together, say the pressure was caused by maybe differentiation of the gel along with various layers of the mesh screen to create and internal environment for people to occupy. Basically you have the initial pop, it starts to expand the gel which in turn is meshed with the tubes that give a skeletal structure of sorts f…

Synopsis A thought experiment is used to investigate the effects of the invariance of the velocity of light in a Newtonian environment. This reveals an apparent inconsistency, in that two observers can receive different time signals from a distant transmitter, even though they are adjacent at that moment. The inconsistency is resolved by adopting a novel conceptual framework, a simultaneity-time continuum, in which the physical relationships between macroscopic objects remain Newtonian but the observed relationships can, and will, differ. Introduction Galilean Invariance (which is also referred to as Newtonian Relativity) is a form of relativity that was or…

I can explain the Bullet Cluster. I can explain the unusual gravitational lensing. And the flat galactic rotation curves in spiral galaxies. It's all very simple, and it involves Dark Energy, but not Dark Matter. But nobody here would read my explanation, they'll carry on wasting years on neutralinos and other exotica because they have no real understanding of particles and the Standard Model. And they'll doubtless call me names to boot, so I guess I'll pass.

If a blackhole hypothetically speaking could be some form of a phenomena similar to a false vacuum I have two questions. 1) If per say these two items are related, and supposing a different quantum universe or event(or events) is then on a receiving end is there anyways to gauge whether the behavior of a blackhole is the way it is because the two events physics don’t match? 2) I also don’t understand exactly what all can escape a blackhole, but just like in first question what would come through if anything? To elaborate if needed. The laws of physics as we understand them have been postulated by some as a product only existing in this universe if this univer…

While reading the article "Can this experiment identify dark matter?" on Physorg, [link]http://www.physorg.com/news112281907.html[/link] I began to think of a similar experiment, however a little different. But would the science of Sonoluminescence and the experiment "http://www.techmind.org/sl/" have anything in common. Since the orgin of the bubbles found in the Sonoluminescence experiment have yet to be explained, is it possible that the bubbles/energy bursts that are created are resulting from dark matter interactions? Please ignore if you dont care. This is a random thought/theory that has no backing whatsoever.

There is no 3-dimensional edge to spacetime. There is an "edge" to its expansion, which is the "arrow" of entropy.

Every thing, every object and particle, every photon of energy and wave of matter is where it is now, at the end of the next comma, only because of every single event, every oscillation, every change of phase and every orbit of every electron or star about a galaxy, since the very first event. This is according to the most successful description of our universe that has been built so far. Looking up at some distant star, it is hard to conceive of any connection to it, but there is some remote. There is a connection. The light that has crossed the universe to effect the recoil of electrons in your eyes is this very thing. Perhaps this light sped unerringly to the ele…

  10. The relativity of motion in space relative to the inertia phenomena is a subject that no one can seem to agree upon. It seems no one can make up there mind either. But, if we all we to take a deep breath, and approach this difficulty by thinking "outside the box," we would find there is a easy way to go about this difficulty. Let’s go back to the basics and see what we can come up with. Assuming motion cannot exist without reference, the first thing that needs to be done is we need to define motion relative to the inertia phenomena. Let us simplify this statement by saying, "We need to define motion in space relative to space" (spatial reference) If we imagine the uni…

(sorry if this is in the wrong board) Hello, I have a question about my force field...or I am just guessing that this is what it is. I've done things that I can NOT explain to myself. I wonder about them a lot. For example: today, I walked into my English class and no one was in there. The lights were off. But right when I stepped in the lights all came on. The lights closest to me flashed on and the lights came on in rows. The furthest came on last. Like a wave. It was very eerie to me (just not knowing what was happening.) And the switch for turning the lights on were DOWN! This has happpened before. ANd also, I got into a very heated argument yea…

This discussion is presented for the active scientific imagination. Back in the 1950's before particles accelerators changed the focus of physics, this type of thinking was more in line with the theory of the times. There were fewer variable to consider making it seem more possible. Here is the scenario, say we found some type of futuristic technology that could generate the four forces of nature, to any level, and could allow whatever input or output energy needed. What type of basic conditions would be required to make new atoms like bi-centenium with 200 protons? With this technology, one is not limited to all the natural limits of nature. For example, a dog m…

  13. Isn't the data we are discussing the time delay between gamma and the cool energy from a blackhole? If you are correct, this can not be blackhole since something is escaping. One of the conceptual misunderstandings of GR is the nature of a GR reference. If we had an SR reference, with a block of solid D2, because of the distance contraction in our reference, we would see the block appear to get skinnier. At a high enough velocity, the atomic distances would appear to look like nuclear distance, such that, based on what we see, fusion should begin. But it will not, since in the moving reference, the distances remain the same. It is still just a block of solid D2, sit…

  14. During some process prior to this very moment in which I am typing this, energy was somehow brought into existence in this Universe. Or I wouldn't be typing this. That directly indicates that there is a physical process capable of bringing energy into existence (or into the Universe from an "outside" source, at least), does it not? Even if this process occurred (or occurs) outside of the space-time continuum and thus has no causal origin, the process still is possible. And since there is nothing that indicates human technology will cease from rising to the level in which it can influence the "fabric" of space and time, then it is reasonable to believe that hu…

Ok, this thread placement I hope will satisfy all as its more or less just an idea. Ok, here is it with, a synthesis of things I thought up. Taking into account QM and other aspects studied under physics or any field of science really, is it quite possible that the universe evolved into a current form. What I mean by this is everything, such as the existence of the electron. It basically has the most profound impact on chemical reactivity, without chemistry what would the universe look like, or how would change even appear really. Looking at life which is a composite of chemistry and physics, you can see that matter and energy is open to change, and in time we cam…

Currently the world's population is polluted with mind altering substances; yes, that means you. These are the same reoccurring substances that have plagued the world ever since people started to take an interest in Art and Science. Lead, mercury, cadnium, copper, bismith, manganese, arsenic, and the other large number of released metals are causing psycholigical changes in almost all people on the planet. Certainly, all the developed, and semi developed cities of the world, are hot beds of this mind altering epidemic. We are certainly following in the shoes of the Roman Empire!! All our leaders, everybody is not capable of true rational thought anymor…

With apologies to Terry Pratchett: Science is a bit like a big machine that a bunch of guys found. It's sort of poking up out of the ground and it looks a bit weird but it does a whole lot of strange, amazing, and head-scratching things. They aren't sure how much of the thing is visible, either, so can only guess how much of it is hidden from view. A while back, someone claimed to have discovered a Universal Force that makes the machine work, but it turned out he wasn't 100 percent about this (and the percentage seems to depend on how fast you are moving, which isn't very intuitive, but there you are). Some of those busy trying to figure out the thing will tel…

  21. First off, modern mathematics and physics have proved that the universe has no boundaries. A man with a telescope powerful enough would see the back of his head, and a bullet travelling fast enough from a gun would eventually come back and strike the same man (if there was nothing in the way, planets, stars, e.t.c) So, to start off, let's imagine the one dimensional universe: _____________ The line to the left is a one dimensional-universe (imagine the line had no width) A dot living on this can move only back and forth. In order for this universe to have NO BOUNDARIES, one must wrap it into a circle. In this way, the dot will move continuosly in a circle. The circ…

Now I have the basics I’ll go further, HUMANS AS PROJECTORS AS WELL AS EMITING ENERGY/ELCTRICITY/whatever.; If the said Person stares into the back of the others head, in close range (around 2 meters) his/her presence is detected. Think about it. Human contact is only a simple part of this theory. Person projecting energy, presence, toward the back of another, male/female at a bus stop uninterested grows curious, possibly scratches the back of their head. Then turns around… Just try it, it’s no…

To this day, I do not know if this is a science or philosophy oriented subject. Most topics can at least be put in terms of science, even if science doesn't have the means to explain it in fine detail, such as the arts. We could put a piece of literature in terms of the neurochemicals it brings out in humans while reading, but we would be hard pressed to explain the nuances of a plot in terms of neural architecture. However, we do know that arrangements of neurons and chemicals are indeed the cause of such phenomena. This subject is probably familiar to you by some name or another: "personal identity" or "personal continuity". I've tried numerous times to squ…

There are high speed digital video cameras capable of speeds over 1 million frames per second. If I was to set up a laser on a foggy night and film the beam traveling one mile at 1 million frames per second, it should take 5.37 frames. Does any video like this exist?
