Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

THEORY ABOUT THE ARTIFICIAL ORIGIN OF SYSTEM EARTH-MOON-SUN Who we are, where do we come from and where do we go? I will expose my theory. The life is the most remarkable characteristic of the planet Earth. The base of the life is the water, the vital liquid, without which the life so and as we know it would not be possible. In addition it has a property that withstands almost only to other compounds and chemical elements: when happening of the liquid state to solid its density diminishes what does that the ice floats and allows to the life in the seas and frozen rivers. Studying the water the man fixed the temperature scale between the ice and the steam of water…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lud1qceKqyQ Yet another aww shucks lone non-scientist inventor accidentally discovers a way to burn salt water while trying to cure cancer. He seems to meet the general requirements of a crackpot. But I'm curious as to what's going on here. Can electrolysis be caused by electromagnetic radiation, as opposed to actually running a current through the water, and how is it producing enough hydrogen to actually create a flame? And how can it be pumping that much energy through the air but still be safe enough for you to stick your hand through it?

Unlike most theories on the construction of the Great Pyramid, this one might be right. The theory by French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin is featured in the latest edition of Archaeology, publish by the Archaeological Institute of America is a doozy. The idea of an internal spiral ramp is the best I've heard of and if true will solve a 4,500 year old mystery. It would also show the Egyptians to be greater architects and engineers than we ever thought.

Good evening all, I enjoy reading your forums very much. I am looking for a group of users who may be interested in doing some amateur research in Theoretical Physics.... kinda vague, I know. Basically, if you consider yourself more a philosopher than a physicist, enjoy a metaphysical approach, consider our current knowledge of the physical world to be full of useful information but WAY off the mark of a TOE, but are prepared to do some mathematical work and experimentation when we're ready, then you're what I'm looking for I want outside-of-the-box thinkers... I want a person who can take his nose out of a book and lift his finger off a calculator and use h…

Note: I use science, I trust science, believe it will improve our lives and the lives of our children and their children, and so on. However, step away from your immersion in science, empiricism, reason, and logic for just a moment, and consider the assumption you are making. Every piece of information you have ever received, from artwork to mathematical laws, has come from one source: your senses. How reliable are our senses? Well, in dreams, you must conclude that they are outright fooling you. The scary part? You don't know the sensations are false in a dream. In movies, you see and hear (and one day perhaps even feel, taste and smell) the sensations. A…

I read some yogis ( saints ) can perform levitaion ( ie floating in air aboave the floor by controling of breath) and some can walk on water? Can this really happen? Can science explain these phenomenon?

Am I correct in thinking (or remembering) that the total amount of energy/matter/etc. in the Universe worked out to be exactly zero? Things like matter, antimatter, darkmatter, and the Higgs field? Perhaps, if the Universe does turn out to be infinite, the Big Bang was the equivalent of reality "dividing by zero"? Yeah, I don't really have a point I was going to make. The concept just amused me.

Straight line pressure and circular energy The cosmos is described in my dictionary as a well-ordered whole. Having spent many years trying to understand these words I have now come to the conclusion that this well-ordered whole is both eccentric and concentric because of straight line pressure and circular energy. That is, straight line pressure forms the inside of a sphere whereas circular energy forms the outside of the sphere. This combination can be seen in the pressurisation of a balloon where inflation can be seen moving away from the mouthpiece up a cone of time while the centre moves along an unseen straight line (black hole) relative to the magnitude of the…

As an amateur philosopher, I've tried making sense of reality and so this idea comes from a very basic set of priorities, but is devised to explain the spectrum of human experience, not just mathematical models, or scientific disciplines. It has drawn the gamut of responses. Given this is a science forum, this is the extended version; Points, lines and planes supposedly have a zero dimension. Well, 1x0=0. What they really have is a virtual dimension, not zero dimension. While a point can presumably be dimensionless, it is still a specific point of reference. The real zero for geometry would be empty space. It is the potential for any point, not a specific one. Also,…

I am trying to define relationships between organisms and quantum mechanics, and of course I am having little to no luck overall. I got the idea watching a documentary on television about aquatic animals and such and of course the relationship these animals take to the ecology in terms of structure for instance. When I was thinking about this the thought crossed my mind that no matter where you go in the known universe, if its physical is most likely a product of matter and energy and so on, or physics in general. My question basically is how much does the laws or theories of QM have in common with evolution of life? I mean a streamlined for swimming animal, like a d…

Hi; I've always been skeptical that gravitation is any kind of "force", and I have (seperately available) reasons why; but the following is just a bunch of my thought-provoking ideas and some excerpts from net sources. Please excuse the inclusion of some definitions that would be elementary to experts and most amateurs. They are contained in this thesis simply to remind the writer of their meanings and relevance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Newton’s Law of Gravitation (Mechanical) Every single point mass (Earth) attracts every other point mass (Moon) by a force pointing along the line combining the two. The…

To whom it may concern, I would like to make my first science-related post today, so I can become an active part of your science community. I believe if afterlife is like an out of body experience, we might be able to communicate with future afterlife people in a way that might be measured. I'm trying to say this based on what I think are facts, and nothing else. I once had an out of body experience, and I know I was having electrical thoughts during this process, now I hear that companies like Cybernetics's, have a machine that can communicate with electrical thoughts, if that is the case, why not open up this topic again, since we can not prove it can…

I have recently begun to question whether there is such a thing as "infinitely small" values. Infinitely large, I can accept, for reasons I am about to explain. Look at the function f(x) = xsin(1/x). You'll notice that it oscillates an infinite amount of times in smaller and smaller waves as it gets closer to the y-axis. Now, imagine running your hand over the function. You cross the y-axis, as well as all function values in that range, with no problem. But what was the last oscillation you passed, was it an up or down oscillation? Impossible to know. Now, imagine doing the same with f(x) = 1/x. You pass the y-axis (or x-axis) and pass by all of those in…

THE THEORY OF MULTIDIMENSIONAL PROGRESSION by JOSHUA M KELLERMAN, Madison, Wisconsin 2007 Time is the NEXT dimension for whatever dimension the universe is being observed from. For US, time is the 4th dimension because we live within the restrictions of a 3 dimensional world. Let us bring our dimensions down a notch. Imagine that we hypothetically live in a 2 dimensional world, where there was no up or down, but only forwards, backwards, left, and right. How would we percieve a 3d object? We can't, because up, a crucial element of 3d, does not exist. But we can see the 3d object in two out of the three dimensions that make up the object, because our vantage point…

Hey guys, Is it plausible to create a technology of phasing through solid walls like we see in sci-fi movies or is that too far-fetched? Obviously, we can't in our days, but is that even a possibility for the future? Thanks, ~moo

Hey guys, I'm writing a fiction story, and I want to do my best and make it as close to realistic as possible in terms of science. I am trying to avoid "schmaltzy" obvious non-realistic crap most sci-fi novels do, and I would appreciate help. So, it's time to speculate scientifically. What would happen to a person/group-of-people who have nanobots in their blood stream? What logical implications can that do? I am trying to figure out both "good" and "bad" side-effects. I'll give some examples I thought of, and would love it if you could tell me how realistic this could be, or what it would demand. Here's my basic thoughts for example: "Good …

Warning: I'm kinda' crossing physics and philosophy here. I've constructed a logically proof for the inexistence of a Higgs particle, and I need some physicists to point out the logical fallacy in the argument because I can't see it myself, although I can see potential flaws. (1) Massless particles can't interact. (this is a major flaw, but I can't seem to find information for this either way) (2) In order for a massless particle to attain mass it must interact in a Higgs' field. Therefore the Higgs particle requires a mass. (3) For a Higgs particle to aquire mass it must interact with another Higgs that already has mass. (4) Step (3) repeat until we …
