Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

The title pretty much says it. I remember when I was 12 or 13, my father used to make lights go out. At first when he told me, I thought he was nuts. So did my mom. But he would walk by certain lights (street lights mostly) and they would always go out. I even remember certain instances where he would point at a light and it would go out. I don't see how anyone could do that with out some sort of a device. In retrospective, I can only speculate with my limited knowledge that it may have been some kind of a weird electro-biological thing where he caused lights to go off. It's the only logical thing I can think of given what I know. That's really all I can say about …

people have no understanding, i will tell you the truth but thats only if you want to know. first you should learn about genetics and natural selection. your own people hind the truth from you. after you read this, instead of debating get knowledge. read and learn , and then sort out the information . today's theories are that the white came about because moving north, because of less uv light, false, by the way im not that good in spelling or punctuation's --theories are : their is a natural mutation in the genes of human that causes lighter skin. the mutation rate in this gene is the same for all races ,african, euoupean, etc, but they claim that the mutation in this gen…

the whole theory rest on the idea that what an atom truly is a nucleus of all neutrons which sit in a field of dark matter. when the neutrons' gravitation pulls in the dark matter and makes them spin like planets it negatively charges the dark matter and positively charges some of the neutrons. much like how when you send electricity through a coil it creates a magnetic field. relativity: i personally think that some of Einsteins equations were slightly off. only because he didn't know about dark matter- and there is no way he could have, but that his theories and there interpretations are still valid. i think what is truly constant in the universe is the rate at w…

Energy is generally misunderstood. Our schoolroom textbooks tell us that energy is the capacity to do work, and work is the transfer of energy. The words go round in circles without getting to the heart of it, and children grow into adults with no clear concept of what energy is. Let’s start by saying that energy is the property of a thing. It is not a thing in its own right. To illustrate this, I can talk about a red balloon, a red bus, or a red red ruby. All these things have the property that we call red. A thing can be red, but you cannot remove this red and hold it in your hand. You can remove the paint or the dye and hold that in the palm of your hand, but you’…

Hi all, I asked myself is it possible to mechanically join two steel balls together ie using only their movement and no other forces. I came to the conclusion no, due to the 3rd Law of Motion, they would push each other apart the instant they came into contact. For nothing more than fun, I asked the question another way, what would need to happen? The only answer I could come up with (other than changing the shape from a ball to an open ring) was a movement that clearly breaches the Laws of Motion. Although I knew that this movement couldn’t happen, I was fascinated by the concept it lead to, a physical structure that appeared to behave in a similar way to how I und…

The Origin & Future Of Intelligence WGA Registration Number: 1185858 Written By: Giorgio Martoni http://www.infinitytree.org/ The universe has all of eternity to make life, In fact it will not only do it once but an infinity times, in every possible combination. I mention the word (Time) only to help explain some theories so they can be more understood by the mainstream. It is my current conjecture that time is a creation of comparison, and it is merely a state in which the position of matter in space has changed & the mind of human beings can recognize that change. It seems as if there is much dualism involved in the way that things work…

How do you guys think we'll fare if aliens were to suddenly invade the Earth and take it over? It seems a little silly, but I know that it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Plus, I think that the sci-fi depictions of it are rather corny and have unrealistic, cheap-shot solutions to it too. Personally, I know for certain that we will probably get stomped on by their vastly superior technology in the event of an alien invasion.

Hi all This article is a very different view of time and space and you may find it a little long winded. It explains inertia and is accompanied by two mathematical papers which explain the math behind the concept. This paper is called ‘Article on True Relativity ’ and I would like to here your constructive comments. The two math papers are; [1] True Relativity a three dimensional theory of spacetime [2] Three dimensional time dilation inside and outside gravitational fields Tony

my friend and I think of a way of teleporting objects in space. This is only possible if strings exist. our idea takes us to build a machine that could determine specific string/blue print of a specific object. then breakdown matter into elementary particles. load them to a laser project them into space with the information of the string. then rebuilds the matter in the place desired. the string answers the problem of putting back matter to its original form. but how much energy is needed? is it even possible? :embarass:

What I don't understand is why people insist on working out their own theories before they understand current scientific thinking? Is it just because they cannot be bothered to spend the time and effort that physics and mathematics requires? I fully encourage anybody to think about science, but they should be armed with a basic knowledge. This comes through study and asking the right questions, not by making wild speculations. Any comments?

This is not a new theory but just a thought. Years ago a read a book entitled FLATLAND. The book explains the problems of percieving higher dimensions. Something like this, a two dimensional being exsist in a plane. If a three dimensional being, say a sphere, passes through the plane . The two dimensional being would not be able to observe the entire sphere. First the sphere would appear as a point, then an increasing circle, after reaching the full diameter, a decreasing circle and finally a point again. My thought is this, if we 3D beings can't fully observe 4D time, we can never fully understand it. Sense our universe is considered a space-time cont…

A CONJECTURE: PI CHANGES WITH TIME Steven C. Gustafson, 14 February 2007 The following is conjectured: The measured value of pi changes with time. At the big bang it was 2, but now it is very slightly smaller than the calculated value of 3.14159... . The current measured value of pi, if it could be measured accurately enough, would be found to be smaller than the calculated value by about one part in 10 to the 121st power. The difference in the measured and calculated values of pi will be indicated by a significant change in the randomness of the digits of the calculated value of pi before and after about the 121st decimal place. Thus determini…

I had an insight and I want to see if more knowledgeable scientists think there is something to this. It concerned the "collapse of the wave function" of quantum mechanics and what exactly causes it. I'm going with an assumption I made in a previous thread - namely, that a photon travels as a wave for the same reason an electron travels as a wave (a-la-double-slit-experiment). I'm calling this a "probability wave" for obvious reasons. To get to the point: 1) photons are emitted and absorbed by electrons. An electron in a high energy state will drop to a low energy state while emitting a photon. It will rise to a high energy state when absorbing a photon. …

Hello Bored again today, haven't seen enough wacked out conspiracy theories lately, and the Weekly World News is in a slump (a far more informative and authoritative periodical then one would care to believe). So what nice crazy idea can you come up with to explain some current event or social-political or economical movement? Or what is the best you've heard lately? OK I'll start us off Why is Bush ignoring the will of the American people and continuing to build up the war in Iraq. Because it has be devulged to him by Pat Robertson that he has been annointed to bring about Amageddon. And that Iran really has no Nukes but members of the Skull…

I have devolped this theory based on my interrpretation of Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, along with other theories involved with this area of space. I welcome any comments regarding it to see what you all think and how i may improve/elaborate upon my theory. Here it is: I would like to take this time to introduce my newest theory. This theory not only states that the outer edge of the universe is expanding, but that it’s core is pulling it in. To understand this, we must first understand how the outer edge of the universe operates. In theory, whether through a “big bang” or otherwise, the universe is expanding. I agree with this theory. There is ample evidence …

Hello In younger days I tended to see the universe around me as a rather complex place. But now with age (forced upon me without conscent) I see the Universe as a very simple place, simple parts, simple componants; which when combined can form complex objects and systems. And as such that's the beauty of the Universe, as with a few basic building blocks you can create about whatever's needed. Conversely that's the danger, complex systems can be brought down by fauilure or change in a simple building block. The object or system is only as strong as its weakest componant. What we have here is one hell of a Lego set. What say you? Mr. D …

I have posted my mission statement here to bring to your attention the following remarkable insight into the world of atomic physics: ....to serve as a reminder of how atomic physics started out as a major cornerstone in quantum science, based on the simple observation that atoms will "glow" or irradiate quantal amounts of energy when energetically excited; and that it is this very "spectral nature" in atoms - a rare and unique property expected to be shared by all life forms, since all living matter is composed of atoms - that enables atomic physics to be scientifically recognized as the only true-path representing mankind's entire human endeavour towards achieving u…

When i first began researching the physiological nascent of cancer cells, I stumbled across something that has went unnoticed by the conventional medical community. It turns out, that in my extensive field research, all cancers, ALL, are caused by bacterial toxin proteins. These are analogous to heat shock proteins. These toxin proteins are turned on when the system, the body, has too many competitors. As a result, the bacterial colonies are the same species release the toxins in an attempt to kill all other microbes. Well, unfortunately these toxins have mutagenic properties. They adversely affect DNA structure and prevent DNA repair mechanisms from detecting any deleter…

Dr. Phil Fernandes on evolution Please have a listen to this guy. It is far beyond ridicules, it is unbelievable! Where do they get these people from? The funniest thing is how he described, rightly so, that DNA and said that mutations do not add new letters, they just mix up the existing ones. But than he used this as his argument that novel characteristics could not evolve! This guy makes Dr. Dino look like a genius. OK, maybe not. Corrected. The link works now.
