Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

SEISMO- ELECTROMAGNETICS * Over the past 5 months there has been an increase in solar activity thus an increase in seismic activity, such as the earthquakes in Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Haiti, Chile, Turkey, and China and the volcanic eruption in Iceland. NASA’s STEREO program has been monitoring solar activity and has observed a significant amount of solar phenomenon. All of these earthquakes occurred in locations closest to the edges of the tectonic plates. Solar activity has a direct relationship on seismic activity. Think of a solar wind as a stream of plasma or energy hitting the Earth’s magnetic field for a period of 2-3 days. Granted, there has been solar phenome…

Religion Please go out of your way and take the time to read this, through, fully; and do your best to understand. Religion. With it people are torn what to believe; It gives everyone doubts. Most religions believe in one God, and say that the other religions are wrong for believing in their god, and that their God should be prayed to - if people choose to believe in God then why not do what I do. I believe that there is a supernatural being, named God. I don't brand myself with any particular religion, however I take a good look at what I am given. I have life, I have vision, I can feel inspired, I can climb walls. Abilities I'm able to ->learn<- pro…

  3. Rationalizing the Standard Model Uploaded with ImageShack.us Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedMiscellaneous Note: Amongst standard particles (not including Force Carrying bosons), only those with energy have mass (cf. photons), only those with mass have Electric Charge (cf. neutrinos), and only those with Electric Charge have Color Charge (cf. electrons). If "mass" is some special sort of "energy", then perhaps "electric charge" is some special sort of "mass", and "color charge" is some special sort of "electric charge". This sounds somewhat like some sort of "evolutionary hierarchy".

Hi Could it be that if time is just perhaps a perceived illusion of consciousness through intelligent life, could it be justified in a type of thought experiment, that as we perceive and have known the universe to have been here for a very long time, it has existed only momentarily and as localized point in the present. In saying so, the time back to the big bang and the big bang itself are momentary phenomenon's and sine we are conscious beings, they can be traced through quantum information of the momentary universe. And the future in just continuous wave-function collapse of the fabric of space brought upon by consciousness and relayed into occurrences of r…

Init weird how in life things can either go ‘up and down’, or good and bad, or in between good and bad, or extremely bad. It’s levels of things, like umm... text on a screen. It’s either there or it’s not. A percentage of it is either going or coming. I have a good day, then I’ll have a bad day; these things come and go, but they literally do ‘come and go’. So let’s say we have: Good day + Bad day = mediocre day. And Bad day + Bad day = terribad day and Good day + Good day = brilliant day. But these descriptions are just levels in-between the two originals. So even really when you say you had a mediocre day, you mean that it wasn’t bad nor good. And …

  8. These are questions that I don't have theories for or proofs, but just speculations based on "observations". Is there any evidence for or math for the "condensation" of energy back into matter? We know that in fission and fusion reactions, a portion of the yield is energy that does not have particles, "pure energy", but the remaining particles are matter. How are these elements formed in the first place? Where is the transition point? What would be the conditions necessary for this transition? Is it possible that the actions of fusion provide heavier and heavier and larger elemental nuclei with their corresponding electrons and they cool, with the remaining…

  9. Well guys, I have been brought up with this "coincidence". And I refuse to believe it is mere coincidence. Over the past year, I have devoted to finding a logical reason rather than attributing it to God/chance. Last Sunday at 1:16:10 AM (Puerto Rico time) or 5:16:10 AM (Universal Time) ocurred Puerto Rico's biggest earthquake since 1918. Coincidently, last Sunday's date was 05/16/2010. How can we explain this??

If UFO reports are at least sometimes real nuts and bolts space craft from another civilization where do they come from? it would be easy to just say they are all hoaxes or misinterpretations of common objects but in many cases there is embarrassment of data by people that could under different circumstances condemn you to life in prison if not death by their testimony. So if we give credence to at least some reports where do they come from? And how could we detect them by scientific means that would indicate their reality?

Matter vs. Anti-Matter asymmetry stems from "global" Curvature (Topology) of Spacetime ? Does matter / anti-matter symmetry assume, implicitly, that spacetime is "globally" flat ?? If so, could it be, that the highly curved state, of a hyper-spherical "closed" cosmos, or hyperbolic "open" cosmos, soon after the Big Bang, would favor one form of matter over the other -- perhaps b/c matter & anti-matter "protrude" from spacetime in "opposite directions" (as per PP) ?? If so, by appealing to non-flat spacetime fabrics, as the "backdrop" for early Cosmological phenomena, perhaps the preference for matter over anti-matter amounts to convincing evidence, that th…

Some people are fat. To get thin they need to burn the fat. If they were to devour spices that are hot, they burn the fatty cells off. You need to eat spices and curry, lots of curry. If you are on a pill that makes you gain weight you could eat even more of it! Reccommend the curry though, how many fat Hindis have you seen?

I think can technology progress underwater has been asked before but what about advanced technology of higher than stone age or more advanced coming about in a non oxidizing atmosphere? If you can't have fire can you have anything more than stone age technology? An example would if you had a super terrestrial planet with an hydrogen atmosphere could any life advance past the stone age since fire would not be possible in a reducing atmosphere.

Hi, Hopefully this is the right topic for this... I've studied quantum physics and cosmology as a hobby for 20 years reading books like 'A Brief History of Time', 'The God Particle', 'The Road to Reality', etc. --in other words I don't really know snot. Never the less (and of course!) an idea has come to me that solves a lot of proglems. It kind of turns things around but it seems nice, neat and logical. Its not completely original and of course it has to be completely wrong LOL, still I wanted to post it to have it formally torn down. But it's summarized in 4 pages of bulleted items and pictures in a zipped Word document. I think I can guarantee that …

  20. so basically i gotta tangent, the ether is the source of all matter and force, "energy" does not exist in a physicl form, but its the "ability to do work" which is equal to the "force over time" the word "energy" is a convenient fiction, like "time" which is an arbitrary measurement of the rate of motion of matter though ether filled space. all events occur in the present and the past and future are meerely metaphors. the eether is a universla medium which fills all space and appears to be dynamic relative to the earths moving thousands of miles per hour though space the ether is normally electrically neutral and penetrates all solid matter. there is a ultra high frequenc…

The curvature of mass-free space-time is allot like the "compensating curvatures" (my words) of a soap film, drawn out between two circular hoops, held up in the air (Wheeler. Gravitation & Spacetime). Now, for a soap film to exist in space, the soapy water must be different from the medium in which it is immersed — to wit, whilst one could create soap films in the air or in a vacuum, one could not do so "under (soapy-)water". Arguing naively from the analogy, then, the "film" of space-time must be distinctly different from the "medium" of Hyperspace. Moreover, the shapes of soap films are created by the counter-balancing of Surface Tension forces t…

This is probably why non-physicists shouldn't waste their time thinking about physics: So by determinism, I'm talking about the concept that if you knew the state of every particle at the beginning of the big bang, you could recreate or model the universe perfectly as well as make perfect predictions about the future. I think the concept is rooted in chaos theory. The Many worlds interpretation is, I think, considered correct by a consensus of physicists. My question is, if you knew all the causes and effects starting from initial conditions, how could the wave function collapse on an alternative to our own universe? Determinists claim that randomness is …
