Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

It was said on another thread that ( snip ) It was also stated that gf) The purpose of this thread is to bring people's attention to the fact that both of those statements are false. They are false because it is impossible to have a force manifest itself without having encountered resistance. Without resistance force does not exist. With resistance there is deflection - with deflection there is distance traveled - with distance traveled there is work - hence no force can exist but what work has been already been performed The same is true of fluid systems - pressure cannot exist but what there is resistance down stream gf /

What would happen if in let say in a supernova explosion some of the matter somehow are pushed over the speed of light. My thinking is that to an outside observer that FTL matter will look like going back in time then instead of seeing that matter expanding we would see it contracting. Is it plausible that supernova remanant are such observationnal artifact ?

  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BXWM3QD1n8 Now to explain what you just watched and provide evidence in support of this argument. Science is the logical examination of what we perceive. As a Deist I believe science is compatible with a belief in God. Therefore that belief must itself be logical. So what is logic, how is it derived, and how does it lead to a belief in God that is compatible with science? The phrase “I think therefore I am” is a self-referential observation that provides certain knowledge of our own conscious existence (in fact it is the only thing of which we may be absolutely certain even though it says nothing about the nature of the "I"). But that …

A thread was closed prematuraly. IMO Have you ever looked at what looks the globe without water? It is something like this You can have a look here: http://veimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/8411/a000054.mpg To me it looks like an old apple. I have also the feeling that the Earth is shrinking. But there is no need to relate this the flood, and I don't believe it happened suddenly. It can happen smoothly, as a natural continuation of the formation of the planet Earth from an accretion disk. There are very few elements supporting the idea, since the general point of view* is that the Earth's dimensions never changed in the past and don't change today (except for …

    1) A new value for proton radius found by experiment is given on: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v466/n7303/full/nature09250.html 2) Previous submissions (on ‘Speculations’) showed that mr = c where c is a constant. Further developments lead to mr = G/2 where G is the gravitational constant. I now use mr = c to show that the new experimental result for proton radius is open to question. In the tables above Codata values for classical electron radius and proton radius are underlined. Mass multiplied by radius values are shown in the extreme right column. As the Proton contains three elementary particles which according to mr = G/2 have the s…

  6. Conventional thought as expressed by the USGS follows the line that mountains (like the Rocky Mountain range - see illustration) are formed by a process initiated by colliding slabs of lithospheric plates. That the process is invalid is demonstrated by the use of two dimensional drawings where slabs and processes appear to be functional and based on scientific discovery. In reality earth surfaces are spherical and they cannot interface (nor function) as illustrated. This lesson is learned early in the educational process when school children make top hats of construction paper. The construction requires that folding edges be cut to remove interfering material. We're …

if accelerating an object adds mass because you have to apply energy to it, shouldn't decelerating an object also add energy to it? lets say you doubled the mass of a partical by accelerating it, wouldn't decelerating it double it again?

One's an Arab and the other is a dual registered Paint and Missouri Fox-trotter who thinks he's an Indian pony. One might suggest that the title I've selected Examining the "physics" in geophysics belongs in another section - but it's the physics that I want to discuss - not the "geo." An article appeared on CNN.com not long ago that discusses the issue, stating :: http://cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/08/25/u-s-students-fall-behind-international-counterparts-in-math-science-analysis-says/ Here (in part is why) :: One …

A Theory Of Co-existence I have come to the conclusion humans were created to co-exist with the Universe, in which case the Universe was made for us, for without us it serves no purpose. Before the humans & animals came to be, you had the Universe. Space, stars, planets etc. We can be certain that the microscopic particles and atoms do not have the intelligence to comprehend their existence, correct? The humans, & a majority of animal species have what is called an eye. Light is reflected off matter, passed through the eye and converted by our brains into what we see (the visiual). We can see planets & stars, they can’t see themselves. Me…

  11. The symptoms in some patients with uncontrollable epilepsy can be relieved by a severing the corpus callosum and thus separating the two hemispheres of the brain. A number of interesting experiments have been conducted in such patients which demonstrate that the two hemispheres each constitute separate, autonomously functioning brains. But suppose that we could overcome the immunological and neurosurgical problems of transplanting one hemisphere of such a patient's brain into another person's skull after we had emptied his skull of its own brain. Then we would have hemisphere A still in person X where it started, and hemisphere B now in person Y in whom it had been …

The atmosphere of Neptune is 80% hydrogen. How would one go about setting the whole planet on fire? More to the point, would it not just explode? That is, assuming that Neptune is just gas all the way down...which seems reasonable. Also, would not a flaming Neptune have more kinetic energy then a not-on-fire Neptune? If so it would definitely change its orbit. Clearly this is an absurd and mostly humorous thought experiment about the violent thermodynamic destruction of an entire gas giant (no Death Star required, although it seems to me that the best way to do such a thing is indeed with a giant laser), and as such I've posted it in speculations.

Hi, was thinking, could it be that the means of reality existing, is through the avenue of consciousness, whereby the very essence of existence existing is portrayed through the act of be conscious. for example, imagine a person or whoever, a conscious system standing in absolute darkness, where nothing within the context of reality can be identified or observed, as in an object, whereby light is the necessary agent for information to be transferred to temporal dimensionality and all the consciousness system can wrap itself to is the system itself, so in other words the conscious system cant come to terms with anything. However, in this, although the system ca…

What is everyone's favorite psuedoscientific/quack/scam claim? My favorite would have to be the work of "Dr." Masaru Emoto. Claims that prayer and music imparts unique structures to the old classic...water clusters. This one just cracks me up. He takes pictures of snowflakes and writes a book about his proof of the power of prayer to influence our biochemistry. http://www.spiritofmaat.com/archive/nov1/cwater.htm Lets try and find the craziest psuedoscience we can. It sure beats the hell out of watching TV sitcoms.

  16. A frequent criticism of extracting energy from Casimir cavities using gas atoms is that the energy required to push the gas into the Casimir cavity will at least equal the energy released by the photon. This argument is only an issue for those who believe the hydrino actually achieves a sub-zero state orbital and is non-relativistic. I contend that the reactionary forces are translated 90 degrees to the temporal axis where this method FORCES normally chaotic virtual particles to organize boundary conditions with gas molecules that formed while inside the Casimir cavity. The subzero like radius of the orbital was non radiative because it didn't really get smaller -the boun…

If one were to make a stable Einstein-Rosen Bridge travel part way through, and then pinch it off behind, what would happen? Would spacetime snap back and take the object with it? Would spacetime just stay extended like that? Excuse the craptastic artwork. The red dot represents the object and the figures go from left to right and top to bottom(just like reading English).

Because we cannot prove the exsistent of Ether by physical experimentation, and time is not a physical essence of the universe, although both must have an exsitance in some fashion (I believe). So what if Time was completely constant regardless of different time frames, and was used as a an Ether or medium for light to travel through. The question I am asking is what if Time was the constant Ether?

Could our universe not be moving freely out into the "unreal-estate" of a Continuum as this statement is being made?

Here is a foolish idea: What if the redshift of distant galaxy is not caused by the expansion of space, but by the contraction of matter ? Wouldn't it be equivalent ? Let me explain a little how the contraction of matter can give the redshift. At the time a galaxy 1 billion light year away, atom where a lot bigger and where emiting light with a lot bigger wave length. While it was traveling toward us our local group was contracting and now the same kinds of atoms are emitting at a much shorter wave length. I think that you can get it. I know I have nothing to support that hypothesis, but I am interested to know if it can explain all observations we have on the dista…

I haven't really looked into Foo Fighters in recent years, believing like most there was no way to really investigate something too ethereal to have any physical effects. I didn't know there were real interactions between WW2 aircraft and Foo Fighters that resulted in actual physical effects but to anyone who is interested in the enigma of what UFOs were or are and who or what really dictates what we believe here we go (looking at the UFO phenomenon is like looking in a mirror, everyone sees something inside themselves in some way) So here goes... http://en.wikipedi…
