Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

You may have seen some mention of this paper which came out recently in Phys. Rev Letters. How Stable is the Photon? http://physics.aps.org/synopsis-for/10.1103/PhysRevLett.111.021801 Basically, the author assumed the photon had mass, which would allow it to decay to something less massive. He applied this to the CMB. If photons were decaying, it would affect the frequency distribution of the light we observe, which puts a constraint on the lifetime of the photon — 3 years in its rest frame (if it has mass, it has a rest frame) but owing to time dilation, it's 10^18 years in our frame. Which limits how much mass a photon could possibly have. Contained with…

Timecube is a theory that was first proposed by a scientist named Gene Ray; he designed a website in 1997 called www.timecube.com, and here he wrote his theory that time is cubic-- he provided a few hours worth of logic to support it. I've been studying the theory for eight years, and would consider myself adept; especailly at explaining concepts in wise ways. In this thread I will try and teach the Timecube principle in a way that the less-educated can understand. Gene Ray asserts that everything in the universe exists between and as opposites, and that opposites are the harmonics of creation; opposites exist only as opposites, and nothing as singularities. For example…

  5. The problem is social networking could also bring in the trolls to this site, which clearly this site deals with. There are people, like us, who take science seriously and take it in as an important aspect into understanding the Universe. Others see it as a joke. A majority of people on Earth, in fact, think of science as a joke. Most people on Facebook are the people that think science is a joke. If we invite them we will get a crowd that will most likely not benefit the community here. That is just my two cents.

Mathematics... I've seen lists concerning this topic, as well as forums discussing the greatest human inventions, even the scientific method is included, mathematics (essentially a method) is however, absent. I've even seen people stating outright that mathematics is a discovery, not an invention, this is the greatest insult to the geniuses who came before us, whom worked so hard to attach mathematics to nature and, to be embedded into nature. Mathematics is found in nature, for anyone who doesn't know, because they made it so, that's why there are many estimations, and many infinite values (such as the famous Pi). Without mathematics, we'd still be living in caves.…

  9. THE UNIFIED SPECTRUM OF LIGHT THE HYPERBOLIC LIGHT PULSE & THE INERTIAL STRUCTURE OF GRAVITY The perfect curve is the median wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectrum is simplified from this equilateral vantage point. The full spectrum range can be represented in one un- polarized light pulse, or one spectral sphere. That sphere is the hyperbolic torus. It may be subdivided into seven separate hyperboloids each with a 15 degree conical range. Pure color and temperature is the median of each range. These separate hyperboloids coincide exactly with the seven pure color tones and the twelve natural musical tones when subdivided appropriatel…

  13. I know it is just a theory, but what if the ancient egyptians did harness the power of electricity. If what i have been reading has any truth, they were probably more advanced than we are in terms of clean energy. The way they built the great pyramid of giza, and where they built it is pretty interesting. No soot has been found in any of the tombs or pyramids, yet they were able to paint accurate paintings in complete darkness. At the moment it's all speculation and i'm sure no one is in a rush to fund any actual research into the matter. (free electricity might make some very rich people poor).

I came out with an equation for cognitive acquisition some time ago. I'm not sure if the actual math exists yet but here is the updated equation. U = y(o) T = (y(u), 'y(u)') M = P(u|t) U is a unit of knowledge Y is any positive whole number including zero T is time '' is a string M is meaning P() is probability of ... In light of my recent enlightenment, I know that time is better off as a tuple (not a dictionary), which makes alot more sense to me for dispositional purposes, and that is why I rewrote the equation that I have worked so hard for for all these years.

Could there be more to the ice melting than just the temperature of the climate? How 'bout all the chemicals that are produced in cleaning solvents? 17. A controversial hypothesis: “ Unique sub particles” I think that “Unique sub particles” are the only elements in the structure of each common elementary particle. (At least, so I convinced myself; maybe I will be able to convince the reader ). Unique sub particle has mass and radius: M = e / ( 4 * pi * epsilon0 * G ) ^ 0.5 = 1.859389987*10^--9 Kg. = = M(Plank) * alpha ^ 0.5 R = e / ( 4 * pi * epsilon0 / G ) ^ 0.5 = 1.380543853*10^--36 m. = = L(Plank) * alpha^ 0.5 So the unique sub particles are like Siamese twins. Their common back bone is mass of mater M, in a sphere with radius R. In fact one of twins is electric CHARGE, the second is square root of con…

The Navy conducted a centrifuge g-force study and as a side affect confirmed consciousness could be "popped" out of the body repeatedly and predictably. DMT which is ubiquitous through out nature has been scientifically proven to be produced in the pineal glands of rats "the 3rd eye." DMT has also been shown to produce nearly identical out-of-body out-of-this-dimension episodes in humans with a side affect profile safer than any drug or substance I have ever came across, it has also been known to convert many proud atheist. Man…

NOTE, this is not speculation, I ONLY want to know about the science [the philo. is contextual]. My friend has a philosophical argument which involves: (a) All people can see X but X does not emit (reflect) light that can be analysed as coming from a known substance. (b) Also, X can “think and perform actions”. Uuo is extremely unstable and is therefore, a very short lived element. My question is: If we keep discovering particles with greater mass numbers than Uuo will the trend necessarily be decreasing stability? If so can you give a brief description of why. I’m arguing that; if X is emitting light and that a spectrographi…

There are blackholes through out our local universe at the centre of galaxies, galaxies merge as do blackholes becoming ever larger, if we was to step outside our universe you would see we are surrounded by countless universes and universe size blackholes all pulling on each other, being pulled (falling) to Omega a "blackhole" which as feasted on many universes until it becomes to "heavy" for its current dimension and drops into a lower dimension and "pops" this is Alpha "whitehole" which spews all it as fed on, matter-energies-space-time which then rapidly expand in this lower dimension forming many universe in there own space-time bub…

  22. Matter that dispersed via the big bang aggregated to form galaxies with definite shapes like spiral, barred-spiral and elliptical. Were these shapes defined by some pre-defined fractal algorithm that imparted symmetries across space? Why is it for example that we can't have a galaxy with a shape like a sphere. (which can be described by a rational number)? I think the same laws that apply to flowers for example also apply at the macroscopic level and this is seen in the phenomena above. Please elicit your opinion.

  24. Let us consider a photon with a mass 1 + delta(i) where delta(i) is an imaginary component with a infinitesimally small order of magnitude. If we have 2 slits we can visualize 2 complementary pairs (1 + delta(i) and 1 - delta(i)). Total magnitude is 1 unit. These exist in an imaginary plane and cannot be exactly determined. (entangled). However when they hit the screen the two components show as light and dark bands. (as there are two complementary co-ordinates) but magnitude remains unchanged. n slits will have n such pairs. Please advise.

Hypothetically a particle that enters worm hole enters another universe. What if this universe is an anti universe? (with anti-gravity). Gravity is an attractive force but when the particle enters the boundary of the new universe anti gravity (which is repulsive) will cause the particle to exhibit simple harmonic motion in the worm hole rather than entering the new universe. Is this conceptually possible. Empirically it seems so.
