Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. Does truth even exist past a certain point? In my guess, things and ideas that don't have any evidence in the universe to prove them don't have truth (They can't be "true"). Maybe all options are in "superposition"? No views yet. Now the views appeared.

  2. This video shows a shark that walks with it's fins as well as any bony fish and better than some amphibians. I would like to speculate on the possibility that this is close to the way land vertebrates developed but would a animal like a shark be able to make the move to land since it lacks a bony skeleton. Also does this say anything about how many limbs a vertebrate can evolve or is the number of legs too closely connected basally to our genetics for there to be more than four?

  3. What do you think? Here's what I think. I am interested in finding flaws in my argument, so don't be shy. Everyone has heard of the Drake equation, a quantification for the likelihood of the existence of extra-terrestrial civilizations. Most estimates for it parameters provide for a low to medium probability that humanity shall ever find a neighbor. However, the equation rests upon an assumption which is not justifiable. It claims that all civilizations have a life span after which they expire, and that none are immune. It does not allow for the possibility that a civilization could survive for an indefinite period of time, billions of years even to the…

  4. Its obivious that time travel is something that fascinate scifi geeks and not really applicable with current laws of physics but if physics could be viewed from a different point of observation, then it won't be hard for anyone to understand that 'events', past, present and future can all be directly viewed by an advanced particle code breaking computer (apcbc).

  5. The ability for large herds of megafauna to thrive during the Ice Age period is a long standing enigma. How could such huge numbers of large mammals have found enough food to keep them warm and healthy during the globally much cooler times of the Ice Age? I have a unique solution below. I do have a speculation for how the Earth's 100ky inclination cycle relative to Jupiter's orbital plane can increase ocean tidal strength, but I want to keep that out of the conversation at present. The inclination cycle is the up and down movement in the Earth's orbit. (i) The earth's 100ky inclination cycle is reponsible for an increase in ocean tidal strength. (ii) These ext…

I have an important question. I had a Mass Media class back in high school. And (I think it was this class, It may have been a different one), they were having mock trials. In these mock trials, they did something they called "cross-referencing". This seemed to mean that one of the people of the court staff or one of the parties checks each person's story for self-consistency and sense. In other words, they make sure a party's claims don't conflict with their other claims. I'm no longer sure this happened at all. But my question is this: Has "cross-referencing" ever been done to science?

  7. The excellent results of MOND predictions with satellite dwarf galaxies around Andromeda show that the closer the dwarf galaxy is to the host galaxy, Andromeda, the greater the influence of the host: I would like to speculate that it is the closeness of the dwarf galaxy to the plane of rotation of the host which is also a critical factor. Perhaps the modification to Newton's gravity should be the consideration of an additional force of attraction on the plane of rotation of heavenly bodies. This tallies very nicely with another speculation I have that the Earth's 100ky glacial cycle is in sync with the Earth's inclination cycle, the up and down movement…

  8. Maybe it's me, but over the past few years, I've noticed that psychologists promote meditation and spirituality as the keys to mental wellbeing. Meditation is not a Western practice. So why are they telling everybody to do this? Somebody told me that one sect/church in Russia meditate, so it's is common. lol.. And there are some Christian demoninations who believe Jesus died on a vertical stick and not a crucifix. So what? This evidently is a minority view, and not representative of general Christian practice. Regardless of the above, is there some agenda in the vocation to turn Western culture into Tibet? Moreover, isn't the definition of mental illne…

  9. While this rare event of massive sized water tanks rupturing occurs rarely, it is oftened accompanied by some loss of life and large property loss. I have put together some chemical based theories on how some of the evidently pressure detonations could be occurring. Those more familar with these large water tanks may be able to supply more insights (like what metal is employed, ventilation/pressure release valves, is the water stored pre or post aeration and/or chlorination,.etc). If a coherent list of possible causes can be produced, I will forward to OSHA, which apparently review these incidents, for considerations. As to why I am presenting on this forum is a net searc…

  10. Is this mathematical/image proof that electric force electric theory is wrong? Maybe not? This might belong in the other thread, but I decided to make a new one for it for now. How electric parallel circuits should work (I think). How they work in parallel in reality(I think).[ attachment=5714:battery and wire force 2.jpg] Gravity seems to have the same effect on water. Maybe the second image is 2 force and energy instead of 1 force and energy.

  11. A photon cannot be emitted randomly. This means that the source cannot emit the photon until the destination has been determined. When you look out at night upon a star 300 light years away, this means that the source determined to release the photon to your eyeball 300 years before you were even born! This is Irrational Time, and in Irrational Time everything that ever was, is, or ever will be exists simultaneously. This is how a photon from a star 300 light years away can determine to find your eyeball in an instant 300 years before you were even born. The unifying co-ordinate in the universe is irrational time. It is the commonality of all existence and p…

But there is a flaw to this logic. It works for atomic clocks, agreed, but it doesn't work for simple pendulum grandfather clocks. When these clocks are at a greater altitude close to space with a much lower gravitational field, they swing slower, giving a slower tick than grandfather clocks on Earth's surface. It's the opposite effect to atomic clocks. Can anyone resolve this issue, or is it indeed a fatal flaw in Einstein's Relativity?

  13. I mean this in the politest way possible. It is a fact of the world that, while people excel in their perspective areas, whether that be a science, a humanity, an understanding of street drug prices, fighting technique, fishing, tax avoidance - whatever, the underlying mechanism to allow for learning is critical thinking. Having said that, some people are more critical than others, from the sharpest man to the dullest bottom. Many people, no matter where their own PERSONAL level of intelligence stands on the 'national average', find people with inferior intelligence frustrating to talk to. Their lack of mental ability seems to arouse an innate irritation in most people. …

What evidence is there that the "stars" in the night sky (the sun could be a different matter, being close to us compared to the night sky "stars") are stars? Could they be giant flashlights? With noble gases? Or UFOs? or UFOs with giant flashlights with noble gases? Or something else? No views yet. Now the views appeared.

  16. If you look at a comparison of Replies numbers. Physics, Politics,Lounge, Speculations rank among the highest. If one puts Politics and lounge as the desire to relax, yarn and pontificate, then that leaves Physics and Speculation in the Big Numbers League. WHY ? Surely this demonstrates a) A desire to seek and know how our Universe Works. B) A keen desire by many to SPECULATE what that knowledge could possibly be. So why beat the living daylights out of each other for having a genuine Desire and offering only Possibles. ?

I once asked god to give/make for me a pile of gold/money on the top of the wooden dining table (It hasn't been used as one for years now.) by the next day. It didn't happen. It's been probably months since then. Still no pile of gold/money on the table.

The clear bias of stellar fusion results in the creation of highly electro-negative elements. This is results in an electrical asymmetry where a net effective positive charge is the result of this process. This results in stellar and galactic charge gradients which account for the fact that 99% of the visible universe is in a PLASMA STATE!!! This means that the electric force is the dominant force in the cosmos and that gravity is much less important. The relative density of stars though out accounts for the gradient.

  19. Do magnifying glasses defy entropy by focusing sunlight? Using mirrors and lenses, you could supposedly focus all of the sun's light on an area a few hundred feet across or smaller, defying entropy. I suppose the target would boil, but maybe it would still work and may still defy entropy.

  20. Instead of not being able to change the past in sci-fi time travel, my idea is that a change to the past would create overwrite waves, overwriting the universe/time events at the speed of time. In other words, it is like restarting a level after a game over/losing.

I published my thoughts , send them to few smart people, forums etc... but....some twisted answers and reactions ...very very strange to me ...everyone is pretending to be the smartes one ,but no one want to understand and listen ....everywhere i tried they banned me calling me crackpot ...so ill try here . ............... To understand quantum world we need to be like Copernicus ... we need first to stop world of MASS(material objects)where we live in ..then put on motion quantum particles ... Idea of ..why quantum world is completly unpredictable is becau…

  23. We are stuck in a dark age The Big Bang Theory is the "scientific" version of Creationism Questioning the Big Bang amounts to heresy in the scientific community The Big Bang Theory and Expansion of the Universe Theory came from a Catholic priest, who taught at a Catholic University It is quite convenient that his scientific theories tied in nicely with the religious dogma of Creationism There is ZERO proof of either the Big Bang Theory or Expansion of the Universe Theory, just like there is ZERO proof of God Hubble did not observe galaxies moving away from each other, he observed redshift and decided that the redshift was caused by galaxies moving …

Is Relativity Wrong? I see in all of these space and physics documentaries on TV that Einstein-this Einstein-that. But then I saw that there are lots of YouTube videos claiming to disprove special relativity and/or general relativity. Videos such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=em6ukitZ9wE Is there any truth to these claims? If relativity somehow is true, then how can it be claimed to be false so much in so many different ways by so many different people?
