Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

The universe we live in determines how many dimensions we exist in. If we live in a ten dimensional universe, we must be 10 dimensional beings. However, the length we would extend into the higher dimensions would be minimal. For example, a 2 dimensional creature residing in a 3 dimensional universe would have a length, width, and if you looked closely a small height. It would be similar to a piece of paper. The length and width of the paper are easily measurable, while the height would be extremely small and not easily measurable. If the paper had only a length, width, and no height, it would not exist in a 3 dimensional universe. Therefore, if we live in a unive…

It is a big problem facing physics – how to theoretically explain the fact that Universe expands with acceleration. In our article we try to explain this effect with the simple fact: the more distant the star is, the earlier light which came from this star began its travel. And at the earlier moments of time the expansion of the Universe was faster. The numerical calculations give quite good approximation of the universe radius acceleration rate – see Part 4. We also try to build a quantum gravity model of the Universe, amazingly we see there, that if the Big Bang was in the beginning of the Universe, and the matter was in point initially, then we have the contradicti…

I went further with my research (long work) and i was wondering to share some notes here to give more insight to others. I must admit i made a mistake with the holographic principle in a sense while is explains entropy and interactions there is a much deeper foundation we must involve for precise mapping. eventually everything fits together. in a very brief concept: everything is emergent.gravity, space, time ,geometry everything. its consequence of dynamic non local wave fluctuations. past is magnetic memory of the wave function future is the probability of the wave cycle/rate. the electron states are in fact different electron existence of wave form.since …

An alternative hypothesis to explain the observation of 'the expanding universe' following Hubble's Law First of all, I want to say that this is a hypothesis of mine. It's a result of long thinking, but that's not an argument at all of course. Please be not too hostile, when you destroy it (with arguments). Thank you. Some true premisses: Observations of time and space are always relative (referenceframe dependent) Space and time are like two sides of a coin: when we observe a distortion of space, we must observe a distortion of time and vice versa. (spacetime is one united entity) For example: when we observe a spaceshrink of a hypothesised…

This is my first post on a fairly complex theory I've been working on. Many people believe that reality is in itself the nature in which one defines it's own relative possition within a defined state. Much of this is comprised of the use of sensory interpretation, and that which is expressed by other beings inhabbiting said defined state. However, the topic is much more complex in nature then you may assume. Now we could get into a philosophical discussion about the idea of "knowledge" here, but i digress. In my working theory, I have incorperated "common knowledge" laws in order to further analyse the topic at hand. By "common knowledge" I refer to widely ac…

I have a new theory for calculating the coefficient of kinetic friction. The equation is: μk=sin(θavg)sin(Φavg) Where θavg is the average of the angles each part of the first surface makes, Φavg is the same but for the second surface. This makes the force of friction be: Ffric=μkFN=sin(θavg)sin(Φavg)Fn Where Fn is the normal force. To find the average angle, you would need a graph to show all the angles and find the average. I made the equation for my theory μk=sin(θavg)sin(Φavg) because you have different parts of the two surfaces pressing against each other, and this makes a force that acts against the velocity. That's friction. The rougher the sur…

The general assumption is that at the quantum level, atoms lack a defined shape beyond their nucleus, and thus can only be represented by a probability-based "electron cloud." In point of fact, there is overwhelming evidence that (1) each element in the periodic table has a permanent, defined shape; (2) that the variations in atomic design are standardized from one element to the next; and (3) that the overall shape of an element controls the majority of the atom's properties. Instead of trying to fill this post with too much detail. I will just point you to the website created for purposes of describing and displaying 3D models of various elements. The websit…

Teleportation is transporting an object from place to place without traveling through normal space. So if you transport an object through a brick wall to the other side, that's teleportation. Since it doesn't travel through normal space, it should take 0 time. If you attach a teleport device to a spaceship, you should be able to jump from place to place in the universe, and it should take 0 time, just like in Isaac Asimov's book, 'The Stars, Like Dust'.

There is an unexamined assumption in mathematical physics about the location of the observer, the physicist--the mind that is constructing the model. Exponential expansion, for example, assumes a location for the observer that is measuring this phenomenon. The following offers a possible location for the observer in complex space. (Electromagnetic, quantum and relativistic phenomena require complex space.) Imagine that the key to the architecture of light is Euler's famous formula e^(ix) + 1 = 0 The real number line is a mean between the complex exponential function and the second derivative of the imaginary logarithm (the inverse of the complex exponential function). …

CONTROVERSIAL : FLAT universe ------- SPHERIC celestial objects I am sure that moderator will find nothing controversial in this thread. At first because it is not decisive sure that universe is flat. On the other hand we have well crafted scientific theory supported by accurate calculations and observation that flatness is result of immense dimension of universe where million of parsecs are like millimeters on earth surface. In my short lay-mans thought, modern cosmology and astrophysics has not solid arguments to support the “cause” of Big Bang theory, hermafrodit maner of reproduction of space from itself --- SO called inflation, “creation” of everything from nothing…

Light is emitted from processes that (as far as I know) involve a rapid reorganization of charged particles and this light is emitted into an environment that is full of other charged particles that will adapt to any changes in EM fields and by adapting will also cause 2y adaptations etc etc. Taking into account the speed of light,a reaction that would`ve lasted perhaps a picosecond would take a lot longer to be registered by an observer as i/it would take time for the particles in any detector to move in response to the field ii/ it would be impossible to separate the effect of the surroundings from the localized effects from the actual reaction. As the rest of the univer…

I once had an experience of light as constituted by equal and opposite exponentials. The second derivative of the complex exponential function (-e^(ix)) and the second derivative of the complex logarithmic function (-i/z^2) seem to provide an analogy. i*ln''(z) = -i/z^2 (as the location of the observer, the model-maker, the measurer) provides the inverse square relationship that we attribute to gravity--"gravity" a function of perception, not force? (The Weber-Fechner Law and other evidence support the idea that all perception might be logarithmic.) It's crazy, I know--but it would eliminate the need for dark energy and dark matter. And a complex exponential "space…

Hello ALL "Shut up and calculate" (P.Dirac). But it can be stricly proved that Universe is a sub-set of fundamental Set “Information”, so we cam say now: "be calm and calculate" since "Nature laws" as well as mathematics at all are inherent to the information. - see http://arXiv.org/abs/physics/0703043 , V5 (and may be the first couple of pages in V1). Some analogs, i.e. the conjectures that Universe is some "ensemble" – see, e.g., "the Everything list" http://groups.google.com/group/everything-list/about including the papers: "A Computer Scientist's View of Life, the Universe, and Everything", Juergen Schmidhuber; "Is "the theory of everything'' …

I just viewed a video on You tube about a ghost light, i wasn't impressed but it got me to thinking... I have seen a ghost light, used to be one associated with a set of old railroad tracks near where I live. I saw it one night, it came to within 15 to 20 feet of me, it was a dull red glow, maybe as big as a baseball moving about head height between the rails, it was visible for a couple minutes as it traversed a hundred meters of tracks toward me and blinked out and when i turned to look it was behind me moving away. It followed the tracks and i figured it was some sort of electrical phenomena. Of course locals had a legend about a train conductor who lost his head o…

Brilliant forum. As an inquisitive naif, it struck me that the puzzle of the ~ 85% (yep, wikipedia) missing matter in the universe might easily be solved if we conceived of space itself as having some substance. (I think in previous centuries it may have been called 'the ether'?) Why bother with dark matter if space is stuff too? I'd love to know why this is wrong.

There is an associate professor - Christos Tsagas from Greece - (from an article on http://www.lifeslittlemysteries.com/1795-accelerating-universe-dark-energy-illusion.html) "a new theory suggests that the accelerating expansion of the universe is merely an illusion, akin to a mirage in the desert. The false impression results from the way our particular region of the cosmos is drifting through the rest of space, said Christos Tsagas, a cosmologist at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. Our relative motion makes it look like the universe as a whole is expanding faster and faster, while in actuality, its expansion is slowing down — just as would be expected fro…

Greetings all. I have been working on this theory over the last two years. A warning this is a very unconventional theory, it only came to light recently, and is related to my special study's. This will include research I have done in order to make global climate change theory possible to every reader. I formed the theory to account for the recent flurry of questions about ice ages, and Global warming. The information I will include will have as many Facts as possible for this very simple Ice age theory. Before you post your concerns, give me a few days to gather all the pertinent data for the possibility of review. Background information, define my vie…

You may have seen some mention of this paper which came out recently in Phys. Rev Letters. How Stable is the Photon? http://physics.aps.org/synopsis-for/10.1103/PhysRevLett.111.021801 Basically, the author assumed the photon had mass, which would allow it to decay to something less massive. He applied this to the CMB. If photons were decaying, it would affect the frequency distribution of the light we observe, which puts a constraint on the lifetime of the photon — 3 years in its rest frame (if it has mass, it has a rest frame) but owing to time dilation, it's 10^18 years in our frame. Which limits how much mass a photon could possibly have. Contained with…

Timecube is a theory that was first proposed by a scientist named Gene Ray; he designed a website in 1997 called www.timecube.com, and here he wrote his theory that time is cubic-- he provided a few hours worth of logic to support it. I've been studying the theory for eight years, and would consider myself adept; especailly at explaining concepts in wise ways. In this thread I will try and teach the Timecube principle in a way that the less-educated can understand. Gene Ray asserts that everything in the universe exists between and as opposites, and that opposites are the harmonics of creation; opposites exist only as opposites, and nothing as singularities. For example…

The problem is social networking could also bring in the trolls to this site, which clearly this site deals with. There are people, like us, who take science seriously and take it in as an important aspect into understanding the Universe. Others see it as a joke. A majority of people on Earth, in fact, think of science as a joke. Most people on Facebook are the people that think science is a joke. If we invite them we will get a crowd that will most likely not benefit the community here. That is just my two cents.
