Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. So I wasn't sure where to post this question, and it's more of a silly pondering than a serious speculation, but, I've often wondered if all known phenonmena in the universe are required for the existence of life. For example it's the electrons in the atom that give rise to the chemical phenomena on which life is based, it's gravity that causes the production of carbon in stars etc. For example neutrinos. What are they? Do they interact with anything and are they truly fundamental or just another aspect of some other phenomena? Please forgive my ignorance of the subject and the probably silliness of the question. I realize the question is rather broad and vague. I…

  2. This conversation was had on April 14, 2012. The original poster was interested in a theory of grammar using statistics and posted the following while quoting from one of his fellows. He said- The word oink doesn't sound like a pig, but it is the word that is relevant to the sound that pigs make. So yes, it does mean "pig" in some sense. Clearly related There may be a relation there, the relativity is within a minimal environment, but there is definitely a correlation. But these words are also correlated through relevance. The word "hissing" occurs relative to the occurrence "snake" and therefor, "hissing" occurs within the environment of "snake" and visa vers…

  3. I have to disagree that information cannot be transferred through entanglement on the sole basis that the quantum mind hypothesis depends on it and because I cannot see any other way of making the brain computational and closing that gap in the mind body problem. The reason I posted that video of max tegmark earlier is because he seems to think that neutrinos have the capability of "learning" as they pass through objects and also that it's a quantum effect. It's about the "package density". It's obvious to me that the mind is quantum in this sense, and I wish I had a citation to the video of calcium activity in the brain so I could show you guys what I mean. Information …

Liquid Metal Magnetized Shell – A liquid metal outer hull held together by gravitational inner magnetic heavy metal core. The ability to changed solid to liquid state used for space traveling, the outer shell is liquified to provide fuel for traveling extended distances. As particles hit the superheated outer hull they are absorbed and converted into fuel while traveling at near light speeds.

  5. My theory challenges the long-held paradigm, that the asteroids did not have a planetary origin. Solar System wide anomalies, are logical consequences of my proposed, catastrophic, event. The attitude of the scientific community towards my theory has been disdainful. So, the only "platform" open to my ideas, was by a website. Please, using GOOGLE.COM, read my theory (far too long for this space),on; <link removed by mod> I have just learned about "science forums," so am testing the water. My hope is for more immediacy than from a website, regarding feedback. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your "disdain free" comments. Fred

If we live in a finite universe, it will have a finite life span. This limitation will be a result of the underlying minor flaws (viruses) of it's original informational logic construction, but still allowing reality to exist long enough for sentience to occur, so a way of our surviving this upcoming event is possible. If we were able to determine the conditions that led to this universe appearing in the first place, we may be able to create a new universe, with which to flee into as this one dematerializes. I see a condition of a true void being the main requirement. This would require a negation of the existing matter, energies, fields, and the dimensions themselves to…

  9. A possible model for infinity is that there is an infinitely large void (for lack of a better word) which contains "all of existence", in which an infinity of mega and micro universes stretch or condense infinitely, larger or smaller within all dimensions Thus; each universe is relative to some other universe in size or volume. The absolutely smallest indivisible fundamental particle in our universe, might make up countless separate, infinitesimal tiny finite universes, that become the fundamental particles or building blocks of still larger and larger universes, within the mega-void that makes up all of existence.. There could be an infinite number of these relativ…

  10. I have an idea related to gravity and tensor force. If the entanglement phenomena is a result of a sort of communication between entangled particles, can a brief entanglement arise spontaneously between 2 remote particles? Imagine two remote groupings of particles A and B. If the spin-state of one particular particle of group A, has a random perfect match of the spin state of a particle in group B....are they not defacto, entangled? And, though they will quickly "untangle", for they are not isolated, for a brief finite period they were entangled, and some information was shared instantaneously, or at "the speed of gravity". So this "make and break" pulsing is a net t…

    1. What is the difference between "speculations" and "conspiracies"? (Circular argument) Some part of the definition for the term, "conspiracy", covers "speculation". 2. The example of the Snowden episode tells us, the audience and readers, that it is possible for agencies to collaborate keeping things hidden. This is a proven fact. 3. Just because it derives from "YouTube" does not discredit the source or evidence. This is a fallacy, it is called: Genetic Fallacy. For instance; there are videos, on Youtube, concerning Snowden. 4. Therefore, there are some things on YouTube which could be proven to be based on empirical evidence and factual information. If we …

in regards to the quantum "resting points" of a particular particle's value being of a discrete quantum value, I say that there is a finite period of time between value changes. This period is the plank-length of time, or minimum period of time allowable in this universe, and is (currently) immeasurable, and a smaller period of time cannot exist in physical reality. This period is perhaps equivalent to the other three identifiable superluminal speeds of 1. straight-line gravitational effects between orbiting bodies 2. speed of entanglement failure regardless of positions of said particles 3. speed of early universe's expansion rate due to inflation....edd what establi…

If the inflation of the immediate post big bang era, essentially caused a sea of hot primordial energy/matter to appear instantaneously at a given size, what caused that size limit? If this "instantaneous" expression is not instantaneous, and is of some finite rate, but superliminal, then perhaps a sort of communication was between every particle, giving a defacto entanglement to the entire early universe. This entanglement would be due to each particle being of the exact same description, leading to a perfectly homogenous state. If the entangled particles are exchanging information with each other at a fixed speed, then the farther apart the particular points of primord…

perhaps present day cosmic expansion acceleration is enhanced by an upper limit in the gravity's ability to function past a certain physical distance. If gravity is a resultant of momentary entanglements, and if there is an near instantaneous constant speed of communications between these momentarily entangled particles, then the comm. freq. must increase past the upper limit of comm. bandwidth if the particles are more distant than the bandwidth can supply the back and forth messaging, to allow action to take place. This would allow a gravitational isolation from any inner material in an expanding shell as the outer edge pulls itself out of range by becoming "silent" t…

Semjase had an earlier post concerning this topic. I would like to add a "critical thinking" component to the discussion. There are collaborating evidence from other sources which confirms secret projects by NASA and other allied agencies whether American or non-American. Evidence: Youtube videos: "Secret Structures on the Moon" by Sirius Disclosure "E.T. Shoot at Fort Dix" by Sirius Disclosure "UFO Crash in Peru" by Sirius Disclosure The above evidence suggests international collaboration to hide the truth concerning the current and past interaction of E.T.s and Earth's history. Therefore, by Occam's Razor, we could conclude that the Apoll…

  18. Hello, i M back with a brand new idea for holding together ustable atoms, or forms of matter for informational purposes. First you would need a vacum chamber, and electromagnetic sphere and a source of gluons. Then, in a selerate chamber with the heavy element, you would bombard it with a constan stream of gluons. Please help me fine tune this idea!

  20. According to the paradigm that existed for centuries, all thoughts and arguments in favor of (and against) absolute motion have always been associated with absolute space (or the ether) and, in fact, these two concepts have always been inseparable in our thoughts, i.e. 'absolute motion is relative to an objective absolute space'. Reconciliation of the Sagnac effect with Michelson-Morley (MM) experiment null result has always been a daunting task. The Sagnac experiments remained 'impossible' to be reconciled with all theories of relativity. This paper discloses the reason why solving this paradox remained a daunting task for almost a century: it required a paradigm shift!!…

As regards the greenhouse effect, that would be no problem. We'd scrap all the CO2-producing coal and gas powered plants, and switch over completely to CO2-clean atomic power stations. The radioactive waste products from these stations, would be safely disposed of in the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, by being dropped into the Challenger Deep. This has 7 miles of seawater over it, which should provide more than adequate shielding.

I first like to say that I'm excited that there is a place where people like-minded can share ideas and theories. Most people that hear me babbling on about my theories are either too intoxicated or just don't really care. Is just that certain things seem inevitable to me and are forming around us as we speak and are definitely,in my mind, going to happen within the next 10-20 years (or as fast our government will let us do it). So I'm new here, glad to meet everyone, let's get on to my latest idea..... First of all, we all agree that the development of technology, as well as our understanding of our own personal brain and DNA, is developing exponentially. …

I don't think 0.999... = 1. If 0.999... = 1, then 1 - 0.999... = 0. But, it does not turn out to be 0. Instead, it turns out to be infinitesimal. If 0.999... = 1, it would be 0. What do you think? Does 0.999 recurring equal one?

  24. CONTROVERSIAL: “COLECTIVISM” OF MATTER --- “INDIVIDUALIZM “ OF ANTIMATTER. Don’t judge, and don’t deride me before listening till end. It is not a thread about sociology, is about physic’s nature of reality, in viewpoint of a lay-man. It’s only a “RHETORICAL’ empty stuff. In the sequel of my threads about particularity of nature ‘s reality, where I suggest that “unique sub-particles” of matter and anti-matter are the only protagonist of this reality, I have get stuck in mud toward questions I made myself: Why electron and proton have different mass and radius from each other? Why the antimatter is so scarce , instead visible mater so abundant? My alleged hypothesis…

If I have your attention know please keep reading, I simply can't do this alone. A bit about my self, I'm not a scientist or a science studnet. This past semester I was a Game Programming Student and that created a new thought pattern in my head. A pattern of Logic. After watching a Program on Sci-Fi Discovery about Black Holes a thought crossed my mnd. Following Logic I've come up with a new "theroy". However, I don't have any resources to investigate my "therory" on Not only What the Big Bang was but also on What kind of event had to happen to cause it. All I need is two things, 1. Peek someone's curiosity, who has the capablitiy to get my second need. 2. I…
