  2. Abstract: Posting a new idea or speculation with an included abstract might encourage members to write more effectively, while getting more readers to bother checking out their idea. However, might it just be a waste of time? --- Would it be useful to require an abstract at the top of topics that discuss some new idea, or introduce a pet theory? I'm especially thinking of Speculations forum, where most(?) posts seem to be walls of text long, and may or may not ramble to the point. I don't have the concentration to bother reading through any of the posts to see if any are good. Does anyone? I assume there are a lot of good posts lost in the sea of words. Are there many p…

  3. Something has been bothering me for about the past two years, and it seems to be more of a problem as time progresses. The Homework Help board continues to get more jumbled. It's as if it's turning into a huge pre-med board where people are asking all kinds of questions. As this current BBS system offers a nice layout for making and showing that a particular main board has sub-boards, I am suggesting that the board be split into sub-boards. Here is my suggestion for sub-boards: 1) Math 2) Physics 3) Engineering and Computer Science 4) Chemistry 5) Biology

  4. I think that for those who use the mobile version, the ability to search and the ability to post long threads is very much lacking. If these are improved that portion of the population would be much happier with SFN.

Why are we forbidden from using this format? It seems to display fine. If you add an image url the preview is perfect - but when you press post it tells you that this format is not allowed in this community. Lots of the wiki stuff is done in SVG and might make it easier to post with full attribution if we could just copy across the already formatted BBcode for a diagram

it seems there is no way to place more attachments into a post after it has been made already. or to add media to "my media" in order to add it to the post without making an entirely new post........ or am i wrong ._. ?

What about a technology forum, i know that there is an egineering forum but, it has been used to comment about stuff, my real suggestion, is about proyects, like water rockets, but thinking about proposing things that may be usefull. The main reason, is that i have been seing, that we talk about this and that, argue and stuff.. but.. why dont build something that can let us make something more usefull and productive. apart from the jokes section. For example i have been seem the lastest Dave posts, and he gives nice stuff on math to think about... then why dont do the same about technology. Well it is only a suggestion.

I really like what dave has done to the template on SFN. It looks rather nice. However, I have a few suggestions that could make it quicker loading and cost less bandwidth: Move the CSS to an external file so it can be cached independently of the page, saving bandwidth. Look at the Quick Reply box. It has its own table and is nested among several layers of borders and such (same as the reply box). Some of those extra borders could be removed without affecting how nice it looks, while helping rendering time. Move stuff from inline style tags to the main CSS so it can be cached. I'd like to see the little top bar thingy redone. It doesn't look that great at the mo…

Does anyone keep in touch with Ten oz ? He logs on sporadically but, hasn't posted in a month. Hope everything is OK with him and family, and he's just taking a breather or working a lot. He can push my buttons, but I have great respect for him. And frankly, the Politics Forum isn't the same without him.

I know there's not really that much of a need, but I had to make a test-thread once to pin down an error with the board, and i've just seen someone else post something along the lines of 'test post -- please ignore'. Might be an idea to have a test-forum, which auto-deletes the posts every 24 hours. On other boards i've seen with them, they tend to get used by people practicing BB code or playing with img tags etc. they seem to be veiguely useful.

I have some heavy weight textbooks that I don't need any more and would be glad to give them away for a cost of shipping. Is it OK to post such information on SFn? If so, where?

I am a new member, but already have benefited significantly by the forums. Posting my questions and answering or replying to others, have helped me to clarify my thoughts, to get new insights, and in one case even to solve an old problem. Understandably and unavoidably, there is a lot of noise there. It is not too difficult to filter it out and to get a positive effect. Thank you to the members and to the moderators.

  22. Here (http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?p=528868#post528868) I was responding (with quote being employed) to 2 different people and my post was merged. This was confusing to me, and maybe to the posters themselves. Can you discontinue this practice? Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit dismayed as to how all the other sciences have detailed sections, but chemistry only has a single one and is listed under other sciences. My idea for a more detailed one would be like an entire heading under "Chemstry" that would have seperate forums like Biochemistry or Nuclear chemistry or such. Why can't it be like that? Anyway.. yeah, this was a bit random. >.>

  24. Hello everyone, I was reading different posts.I saw many which were fully AI generated or just a imagination. They had no formal paper, mathematics or anything scientific, but they had very high level science terms and words, which points toward using AI.The common thing they say or have in Topic name is Bear with me.Is this some kind of trend or LLM pattern?

I totally dig your automatic post consolidation feature. If there's somewhere to vote about that tell me. Very cool. Are there rules or nettiquette or whatnot about using it? Is there a FAQ? Thanks for your kindness to the n00.
