I've been on antipsychotics Zyprexa a while, then stopped, They better find a better way to solve alot of these psychological problems because those pills are...unnatural. I'd rather live with my disorders than have to put up with those mental straight-jackets. It doesn't stop there. When I was younger they put me on Zoloft for depression and Paxil for S.A.D. The depression was taken away by me weightlifting (activity). I've been to many doctors/specialists, the works, after 2 sessions I am on some sort of drug I've never heard of. I didn't even know I was on antipsychotics till someone told me (who was in the medical field)...Schizoprenia, or Bipolar? …

Recently I was reading a book on How to success and I got Followig conclussions. I think they work. Learn, Learn, Learn:- You must, as a young person, be curious and have a learning mindset in whatever you do. This is extremely important for progress. People often try to figure out in advance whether a certain job or path is right for them, but this isn't the right approach. Understand that, no matter what job you take up, you can learn from everything you do if you have a mindset geared towards learning. Cultivate constant, life-long learning as a value system. Be a team player:- Learning to work with other people is essential. …

Please consider the behaviour of the following individual.... - 18 yr old female - used to self injure (cut) for few months in the past, no longer self injures - has had suicidal thoughts, never acted on them. - has been told that she acts immature, childish, not proper for her age. - is very annoying. Asks repeated questions such as:" are you happy? " "do you like me?" - divorced parents - has been abused and neglected by her father - gets upset over extremely minor things, ex: she being ignored or not accepted - if extremely upset and left alone by her self, throws her self on the groud n starts screaming, crying, punchin…

If the 1st Law of Psychiatry really is 'Never encourage unusual behavior', doesn't that exclude the accomplishments and contributions of a lot of unusually behaving people? It can and sometimes is said that humankind would be better off without any kind of technological development and that may be true, but we're where we are, under the impingent circumstances, for better and/or worser, and if the 1st Law of Psychiatry is 'Never encourage unusual behavior', doesn't that fairly begin with failure to control fire and the innovation of the wheel, for example? (These points are so elementary that even a Geico advertising executive can understand them?) If the …

  7. Hi all, can someone supply advice on this: I am determined to analyse a 3 way interaction of variables a x b x c. No problem there. But since I'm using hierarchical multiple regression, I am following aiken and west's steps of centering my data to produce interaction terms, which is again fine. My query lies in producing the graphs to understand the signficant 3 way interaction that has been found. I can (just about) easily do a 2 way interaction and represent that graphically. However, the problem is the way i do a 3 way interaction. Basically, I'm going to use the median split method of separating my sample on the 3rd predictor © to produce a high and low group…

Before going to discuss my question, read this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/health/12diabetes.html Here comes my question: What do you think we should do with these people then? Without medicines for mental illness, they won't survive normally. But giving medicines for mental illness can cause diabetes, which, in some case, are even more hazardous than diabetes. Any intelligent idea? I just wanted to know about other people's opinions.

Not sure if anybody has noticed this, but I've found that when you walk past somebody in the street, at work et.c usually when it's quiet, and usually when the other person is on there own (or with someone and not engaged in conversation)...they sniff just after, or when they walk past you. I get this especially near where I live, when you are the only other person about. I can't seem to work out what prompts this 'sniff.' I noticed a couple of times where a bloke walks past and I can see him 'sizing me up' which then prompts the 'sniff'...so I presume this is an expression of confidence (I'm slim and only 5ft 10in) but I've noticed the same reaction from a whole rang…

Why does our mind always suspects even though we know for sure there is nothing to worry about? I find this hard to grasp!! for eg, When something goes missing from my room, my mind automatically assumes without applying any logic that “THIS” person has something to do with it, instead of thinking “there maybe a good reason for it”. I am not happy with the way my mind operates in this case! I have no control over it than instantly suspecting that someone has something to do with it!! Why is our mind programmed to do this? Or is it just me? Also, why do we give into an argument when the other party gives in first? Why can’t we just take the initiative? I want…

I notice that no thread on SFN has considered it in depth, so I offer this thread. There is consfusion as to whether asexuality, being defined provisionally as "having no sexual attraction to a partner of either sex," is a sexual disorder, dysfunction, or orientation. I've been reading on it, but there is a paucity of scientific research available, so it may be that for now opinion is as good as we have ... but we can still hear that. The main debate is whether asexuality is simply a form of inhibited sexual desire or a separate sexual orientation. To get discussion moving, here is a 2004 article from The Journal of Sex Research by Anthony F. Bogaert, which provid…

Can anyone remember with 100% certainty that they could smell or taste something in a dream? As i recall some of my dreams I cannot honestly say if I remember a smell or taste. I know I hear sound, I even experience physical trauma, emotional responses and so forth...but never taste or smell. Im curious if we have the ability to subconsciously smell or taste something. I know the thoughts of food can trigger physical reactions, but can we actually hallucinate to that degree? Are hallucinations only audio and visual?

It's true. I have this wonderful thing known as "Social Anxiety Disorder", or "Social Phobia". It probably sounds ridiculous to you, but it's actually ruining my life. I find myself over-analysing, dreading, and (when possible) avoiding social situations all together because of it. This has lead to me becomming extremely isolated, and therefore spend much of my time stewing in my own thoughts. I don't feel like I can be myself. It's a really strange mindset to be in. I know that the fears are irrational, but it's as though there's a large part of my brain that I simply have no control over. --------- Feel free to tell me how pitiful and cowardly I …

I've noticed over the past couple of years that many actions and activities that require quick thinking can be made much more fluidly or efficiently when I'm either not conentrating on the particular task, or I'm in what can be described as a state of trance. A few good examples of these activities are games that require fast and accurate reactions, like video games or baseball and other such sports, and even conversation. I'm a musician, and notice too, that coming up with melodies is much easier in this state of mind. When I'm very tired, or in the state that comes right before falling asleep, I can even 'hear' new melodies or full on songs with little more than a d…

I don't know how to help her and I'm relaly worried about her but I don't want her to notice because she is really sensitive and doesn't want to see her friends worying about her but like, are there any things I could do to help someone as depressed as her? I would like to pose the question, why are there so many orientations within psychology? The reason I ask this, is that psychology has become the replacement for religion for many atheists for the healing the soul. What they get to chose from is rational polytheism. Is there any indication that psychology will eventually evolve to rational monotheism?

If we look in nature usually the male is the more colorful or decorated of a species. But for humans, the female is more colorful and decorative. Both are connected to sexual attraction phenomena. Does anyone have an ideas of why the colorful lure switches for humans? It appears to show a cross sexual part of the brain being used for human animal sexuality.

  21. To start off, its that fun trick ever since you were young as you close your eyes and focusing on the blue shadows dancing under your eyelids which probably has to do with light sensitivity after a long day. Nows heres the wild shit, every time I wake up from a dream, whether it be nightmare, or a regular lucid whatever dream, I close my eyes again AND I can see the figures from my dream in darker glares since its under my eyelids. It can get scary at the point where you don't want to close your eyes!! Like I would see a bunch of weird shapes as you focus and sometimes those shapes will form actual persons faces, its also scary because you are really awake, from the stuf…

Okay, every night when I lay in bed, when I'm still completely conscious I'll get a picture of something in my head.. almost always it's a sphere and it's spinning on an axis. Sometimes it's other things.. an image of myself on a plane thats spinning with me on the center, etc. I have to concentrate hard and by maintaining concentration I can keep the image still.. but my face starts to tense up and the area around my noes and under my eyes gets really hot. Does anyone have any idea what im talking about or familiar with anything like this?

I love bassy music. My headphones are the size and weight of my own skull. My car audio system much more so. Same with about 70 other cars that pass my way every night. I love bass; my sister loves bass; my friends love bass. The subwoofer to people ratio amongst my friends is about 1.8:1 But, why is it that young people like big bass so much? And why do old people hate it? I know we have a sample from both sides of the spectrum here, so lets hear it!

I looked on wikipepia for the definition of surrealism because I had earlier heard that Lewis G Carroll's books of Alice in wonderland and through the looking glass had been written from the style of surrealism. I read in GO Ask Alice, a book that has no ties to lewis g carroll, that the girl wondered if Carroll was on drugs. I instantly found this to be preposterous and if he was it had nothing to do with his writings. I researched surrealism and it summed up all of my views on internal inspiration of the human mind. Drugs may be able to break down inhibitions to be able to reach the subconscous but overall the users are distanced even further from the beauties of the h…
