In linguistics, a cognates are words two different languages that sound the same and have the same meaning. English "beer" and German "Bier" are cognates. Similarly, false cognates sound the same, but have vastly different meanings. English "gift" and German "Gift" are false cognates, as an English gift is something you get someone you like and the German Gift is something you give someone you want to die, namely poison. In CS, different languages have similar ideas with similar names. Floats, ints, and doubles are everywhere. I'm interested in seeing your favorite examples false cognates in programming languages. My favorite is the for loop. Python's for loop…

We are researcher (sandkasten.tu-braunschweig.de) from a DIY urbanism platform from the University of Brunswick (Germany). Within a research project on the subject of participation we are searching for IT-platforms like ours which realize urban projects in which people participate. At least one of the participation mechanisms have to be fulfilled to talk about participation. Participation mechanisms are for instance commenting, taking surveys, starting a project or becoming a team member. if you know a platform which fulfills ths criteria, just click on the link below and add the address: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nF_1CqCbPCzikBf5tMaGnSjsZOOihCt1tjG1Q0MY_bM …

Hi! I'm currently nearing completion of my Foundation Degree in Computer Science here in the UK, and I've narrowed my choices down to two paths - RAF or working with a local company. I was wondering if anyone here works, or knows someone who works in the RAF and knows a little more about the culture there, it would be super helpful and greatly appreciated! The wages definitely aren't as good after putting them through this salary calculator takes tax and NI and gives you all the numbers you could possibly want, but living on a military base I've heard is almost ridiculously inexpensive. If anyone could tell me more it would help tons! Cheers!

I develop a platform for managing IT projects. My supervisor said that Jira was used for a long time at our faculty, but at one point access to Jira was blocked and all the faculty data was lost. And after that it was decided to create its own platform. But the fact is that for the thesis work, some problem is required, which I solve, but I can not think of it. Now there are so many different solutions - Jira, Trello, Asana, and others (more than 200, I think), which in principle already says that my solution should be something different from existing ones. I took as the basis of the open-sourse platform a solution called TAIGA (you can google), it uses the Agile methodo…

I was using Windows 7 for last 3 years but recently I have updated it to Windows 10. I have heard about it from one of my friends. It is one of the latest version of the Windows and it is one of the most used OS these days. I am using a TP-Link router. this was very much compatible when I was using Windows 7, but after upgrading it I observe some crashing issue, I have visited SPAM LINK DELETED, but didn't get any proper solution. Is there anyone who has faced this type of issues? please share a solution how to fix it.

Hi all, It seems that every month there is a new security startup that advocates some new Machine Learning algorithm to detect "malicious" requests. 99% of them are full of shit. However, that last 1% can be a real threat to your regular "mass-mimikatz", "pass-the-hash", "pass-the-ticket", and so on. Not to mention that Windows 10 introduces some real and effective counter-measures to classic hacking techniques. I decided to write a book on the subject: Ad deleted

Hey there, Lets brainstorm about AR. I keep a vision that efficient and detailed work on AR will be a new future industry in itself. I definitely feel that AR is the "next big thing" that is being undernoticed or you can say being implemented in a non-innovative manner. Companies like Apple, Google, Samsung etc, are trying hard to integrate AR tech in their existing devices/technologies. But they are doing it in a way that just undermines the scope and potential this amazing technology keeps. In contrast, start ups like Leap motion, Holo lamp,Magicleap are working on AR intensively from years. The goal is to Replace all devices with AR and…

First of all, it is no surprise that computer scientists would consider DNA as an excellent information store. Treated correctly, DNA can be frozen and kept for potentially hundreds of years if I believe the magazine article which I scanned very quickly today. Also, there are 2 billion base pairs in the entire chromosomal content of one cell nucleus which are responsible for the encoding of roughly 21,000 genes to make a human being IIRC. However, here is the bit where I need help. The article claimed that 9 base oligonucleotides could be used to code for short instructions and that 13 of these 9 base oligonucleotides could encode 13 trillion "words" of code (in the…

Hi everybody, i have a question about machine learning. I'm not sure about how joint entropy and mutual information work. Since: https://imgur.com/mZU383m For the first equation, we have that: https://imgur.com/C1zIHFT H(x,y) seems to be: 'everything that are not in common between x and y'. But for the second: https://imgur.com/a/3iWIyps In this case H(x,y) can not be 'everything that are not in common between x and y', otherwise the result would not be the mutual information I(x,y). So, how should I read H(x,y)?

Employment of network and computer systems administrators is estimated to grow 6 percent from 2016 to 2026, approximately as fast as the average for all occupations. Demand for information technology (IT) workers is high and should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks. Please suggest me, which networking course is best for future?

I already explored these chatbots some months ago and chatted with one of them for a few hours, which was good fun but the novelty wore off. Chatbots are the product of their creators and their personalities reflect that. Some chatbots are nasty and sexually explicit, those ones aren't much fun and truthfully don't turn me on. ( cybersex? not interested) Anyways, I personally think this technology is the way of our future whether we like it or not. Soon students will have chatbot study companions, with learning A.I., taking the bulk of responsibility for educating young hopefuls. Same sort of "machine replacement" for humans where A.I. chat can be used will probably …

Is there a legit proof that creating tallies or any other sparse language in poly-time is impossible? Or is this just a conjecture widely believed? Please read the picture below before going to the links. I have a paste-bin for an algorithm that solves my decision problem. https://pastebin.com/kuj2sZys I have a repl link as well. https://repl.it/repls/WiryGrandioseSearch

Hello! I am studying computer science at UTEC (https://utec.edu.pe/) in Lima, Peru. I just finished my second year in college in December 2019. This winter, I travel to Utah to work at a Ski Resort for three months (mid-December to mid-March). When I graduate from college in Peru, I'm looking forward to living abroad and working in a big company in the States. I was searching for Computer Science short boot camps across the US. It would be really nice to spend my vacations in a CS program. Does anyone know a CS Boot Camp like that? It could be in any part of the US. Thank you!
